Pacific Rim (the big general thread)

For the discussion of non-Toho monster media, tokusatsu franchises, and also for mixed discussion of Toho and non-Toho kaiju media.

Well, not super surprised I was mixed up. Still it was certainly a shock seeing those new toys pop up. The Bandai ones...certainly show a bit more grace to them.
"Whoa here's Saber Athena with its dual swords! Whoa here is Saber Athena with its main sword! Whoa here is Saber Athena in another really kewl poise!"
vs.
"Here is Saber Athena and it comes with a sword I guess?"

I mean...I'm gonna get the Diamonds too so I don't tease too harshly.

You know. If this movie is a bit bigger than the last we could possibly see them meeting up a nice reason for that animated series to be revived.

Depends on what it's aired on. If it's on some Netlfix, Vrv, Hulu Original Series type thing I can almost Gaurenteed 3D animation, or at least semi-3D akin to something like the 2012 TMNT show on Nick.

But judging by the fact that the original film was distributed by Warner Bros. I'm positive it'll either go on Cartoon Network or Adult Swim. Which will rpolly lead it to be animated in tradition to the culture it's based on in anime style.

Those are the only two options I see. Unless they turn it -------- for the kids and do a kiddy cartoonist style ala Teen Titans Go.

So the names of Raijin's two partners in destruction got revealed at a toy show over in Japan (because of course).

Six Legs is named Hakuja, likely named after Hakuja no Myojin, The White Serpent God of Japanese folklore, and the other guy is Shrikethorn, likely named after the Shrike's preferred method of killing (impaling prey on thorns of acacia trees, barbed wire, & whatnot).
"But, uh, you hadn't told us to listen to you yet. So I didn't."

Call me salty because I am, but i'm so glad the Lil'Badass persona from Transformers: The Last Knight decided to star in PR. Can't wait to see how shebuilt a scrap Jaeger. How old is she in universe? Like 17 - if that.

Oh - yes, context.

I may have jumped the gun and im not for sure what her role is in the film - but stuff like Lil'Badass really set me off.

Someone more informed with the PR2 lore can probably fill me in.

No, you pretty much covered it. The "plucky young girl with a knack for mechanics" trope is pretty much her entire character.

Yaaaawn.

Everything else (that was new) looked alright, though.

In defense of the teen genius...remember when Newt made a drift machine out of garbage one night? Just saying.
Eh can't really mock Pacific Rim Uprising with cliches at this very moment since it isn't out. I mean Pacific Rim did cliches but it was very fun. I care more about enjoyment than being original.
And it could end up being a sucky movie I admit.

Also I'm pretty sure with that clip of
Spoiler:
Fury trying to decapitate Gipsy Avenger
that will be part of a later battle. I put it in a spoiler just to be safe and I'm sure I will feel dumb when I check back on this topic after sleeping.

Just saying, compare Newt's history and intelligence compared to teen lil-badass. I have a better time believing Newt because he works around the machines daily. Hell, this was probably a pet project of his ever since he joined.

Lil'bad ass made a JAEGER from god knows what, scrap - who fricken knows how she understood how to connect everything to get it running, scavenging the parts must have been a nightmare since i'm pretty sure Jaeger wrecks would be confiscated immediately by the government and not at all going to scratch the machinery needed to weld and make a mech.

Scrap made hodgepodge > fully working scrap jaeger.

Remember back in PR1 how it was made clear that many nations had to come together to build Jaegers because of the costs and materials needed?

And now anyone can just build one because "i know muh way around the machines!!".

I mean - i'm guilty oh liking Newt's hodgepodge, but ATLEAST there is something to back it up. Such as being a MIT Grad and working around the machines and the Shatterdome. Ever since that Transformers promotion - this really bad "I know my way around machines" trope just really starting - for a lack of better words, triggering me. Lol. I really think this is the right word to use for it.

Not saying there might be an explanation as to why she can do this, but I highly doubt it'll hold up.
