I guess I'm lucky that it doesn't look very good to me. ;)
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It sounds awful.

but Hamill as Chucky, McCreary's fantastic score just from the tease, and some decent cinematography, it's tempting me to see it when I know it's A. going to probably suck and b. is just a massive FU to Mancini and his series.

Or it could be like what IT was to the source material. Albeit without the demon transfer jutsu.

Jeez, all this hate for this film seems unnecessary when you consider the fact that this isn't stopping Mancini from making his series.

I've only ever watched 1 horror remake that was on par with the original and that was The Hills Have Eyes. That said some can be entertaining even if they lack the spark of the original, Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes to mind. I'll give it a chance but I'm going in with zero expectations.

IT is the perfect example, especially if being made by the same people.

You should watch John Carpenter's The Thing, it's pretty good for a remake.

I'd say David Cronenberg's The Fly is a pretty standout example, a remake that far surpasses the original.

Thanks you two.

I have seen all 3 thing movies but in the case of the first two,From Another World and Carpenters, I don’t view them as original and remake, given how different they are from each other and one better reflects its source material. I’ll have to give the Fly a watch. Been meaning to for a while.

Don't forget the 1978 remake of Invasion Of The Body Snachers.

I mean, heck, we could go all the way back to the 1920 John Barrymore version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which was the sixth film version of that story.

It is worth noting, though, that the vast majority of these examples are cases where a book was being re-adapted for the screen, rather than a story that originated as a film being remade. Going back and taking a different approach to cross-media adaptation doesn't present quite the same hurdles, I supposed, as trying to re-invent something within its original medium.
