So has anyone else here seen the 1972 horror docudrama The Legend of Boggy Creek?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Boggy_Creek

For what it is its actually REALLY entertaining...although its best to avoid the sequels.

Saw it at the mall yesterday but didn't get it because a dog dies in it.

As you may know I have a thing for dogs dying in movies and so I tend to avoid them hence why I'll never watch John Wick, The Thing, Alien 3 (Unless its the cut with the oxen instead) and such. Big animal lover here especially dogs.

Unless its off-screen and not shown like Alligator then I'm okay with it.

I've heard that there is a 4k restoration of the film underway, with the plan for a blu-ray release and theatrical re-release this year.

That would probably explain why I saw it at the mall yesterday.

Oh...well then avoid I Am Legend & The Fly II...
& Marley & Me.

Hate to give you the wrong advice if my memory is failing me, but from what I remember the Boggy Creek one is so off-screen that no dogs ever appear on camera during that scene. It's all told, or more like implied by barking and roars that one character hears in the woods. Creepy ass scene, too, but I don't think the narration even confirms if the dogs made it out or not.

... on the other hand, something very unfortunate explicitly happens to a cat, but we're just told about it, it's not shown either.

IMDB only mentions a dead cat being shown briefly. Nothing about dogs.

DoesTheDogDie.com also doesn't help either because it just lists dog/cat as one variable.

15 minutes in there's a scene at a horse where a dog is barking and then hear it whimper before the next scene showing what I think its body being thrown. Unless maybe that's a different version of Boggy Creek...

I'll check it again since I saw this on the internet.

I've seen I Am Legend, and while it saddened me to what happened to Neville's dog in the flick. It honestly didn't send me over the edge. Although being a dog owner/lover it did touch me. Marley & Me, Old Yeller ,and any other flicks that go for the tear jerk in their adverts I'm avoiding like the plague. I did watch the FLY II ,and won't again after seeing the dog scene. I can handle kids getting knocked off. But dang nabbit what was done to the dog in that flick. I can't even watch the review of the flick. Although when I watch GoodBadFlicks review, I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered about the canine's fate. Cecil has a few humorous quips on the subject of the dog.

ABOMINABLE the squatch on dog violence happens off screen is off screen, and expected in a horror flick.

Well moving onto dogs dying in movies.

So far my favorite Bigfoot flick is Harry and the Hendersons. A cute film for the whole family what else is there to say really?

Actually...now that I think about it...most of the violence takes place
off camera in The Legend of Boggy Creek & we only see/hear about
the aftermath.

You'll be fine GodzillaFan1990's...trust me...its worth watching.

Yeah...that was some nightmare fuel for me as a kid...and it still twists my
stomach as an adult. It is an impressive puppet...& as an adult I think of it
more as a special effect than an actual dog/character if that makes sense.

In fact The Fly II has a tonne of great practical effects in it...which I always
love to see.

Wait...what thread am I in again?

Oh yeah...Bigfoot movies...

Yeah...I honestly have that many...and the only one I remember and like I have
already recommended...so...I guess I'm out?

:P

Been a long time since I've seen Boggy Creek, but I don't recall any footage of a dog being killed. A guy explains how he found his dog apparently strangled to death/with a broken neck, assumes it was Bigfoot's doing, and vows revenge. Nothing, IIRC, is actually shown.

After all due consideration I've officially decided I will pick up The Legend of Boggy Creek. I'll just have it the scene with the dog is it was just wounded but survived.

I swear, there are almost as many killer Bigfoot movies as there are shark movies. Snow Beast, Primal Rage, Big Legend, Sasquatch Mountain, Yellow Eyes, ECT.

Unless it's the MST3K-ed version of Boggy Creak II.
