Does anyone own any of the Dark Horse comics? I'm looking for pictures of the kaiju within to get a better understanding of their powers.

Once I get a few more cutting room entries off the backburner, I was really wanting to cover the original comic book monsters (especially love the early Dark Horse ones). Their powers are pretty basic, though, plenty of tooth-and-claw but little in the way of energy attacks. Bagorah's screech can send out small blasts, and I think Burtannus could emit electricity from its horn Megalon-style.

Bringing this thread back to share something I haven't seen shared here before - Bagorah concept art by Art Adams.

Image

The Dark Horse Ghidorah, Mothra, and Anguirus archetype concept art pieces have been around for a while, but I haven't seen anyone share this before, anywhere really (could be wrong). I do wish there was more concept art of some of the Dark Horse characters out there, but I haven't seen anything else.

Bagorah's pretty rad for an original monster, not over-designed but nevertheless unique enough to stand out. Dark Horse had some pretty neat monsters.

Love it as a monster. Always wanted to see it on film when I was a child.

Heck yeah, never seen that before, that's great. Here are 2 for Cybersaur! (They were floating around on FB, but can't remember who shared.)

You guys are giving me hope for the possible existence of Burtannus concept art.

Oh sweet! Anguirius and Mothra I like. Ghidorah I'm not quite so sure...I think it'd grow on me. Interesting how it seems like when Americanizing Mothra and Ghidorah more we do a few things. Mothra's stronger insect vibe and Ghidorah wing-walking which I don't mind that. Those little extra legs are a bit weird. Still something about that Ghidorah seems kind of small or scrawny to me. I think it'd grow on me. I like Anguirius' front arms, the stinger tail is a little weird.

The DH run was huge for me when I was a kid. I had the three paperback collections and would take them, and the Compendium and the Cerasini novels, wherever I went! I think it was pretty common for nerdy kids pre-device ubiquity to carry their favorite books with them at all time.

Oh wow, those are great; totally new to me. Wish there was a source, though. Doesn't look like Adams' style, to say the least. Brandon McKinney maybe? He did the art for those issues.

First time seeing this! By any chance do you have an HD copy?

I can’t seem to find the image on the web.

kaijukurt, the image of Bagorah, has been in comicartfan for years. And there is no HD version.
A question for those who have the Japanese version, which I recently released. Do you know which volumes are present in the Japanese edition of Godzilla: Classic Collection '95?
I can only speculate from the cover.

When it comes to American Godzilla trade / paperback covers, Japan definitely comes out on the winning end. Check out this original cover by Matt Frank for a Dark Horse trade / paperback (which has been rebranded "Godzilla Classic Collection '95") being sold at the Godzilla Store in Japan:

Also, to my knowledge, the only Dark Horse Godzilla trades / paperbacks released many years ago were all re-printed in black & white....lame. In contrast, the Japanese trades have been reprinted in color:

Not that I know of. You can order the TPB on Amazon or Ebay if you want to pay over-inflated prices (the trades are not even in color, so it's not really worth it imho), or see if you can get a hold of the Japanese Echo 6 TPB color edition called "Godzilla Collection 95" from the Godzilla Store whenever they open their American store (it's all in Japanese of course).

I did find the 1987 Dark Horse Godzilla: King of the Monsters Special scanned to be seen and read here, if it's any consolation. https://viewcomiconline.com/dark-horse- ... -issue-1/

This site has the 1998 reprinting (the original 1987 comic was in B&W, but the 98 reprint was in color). The 1987 issue is what started the whole DH continuity in the 90s (it even references the monsters that appear in this issue in a couple of the 90s ongoing issues).
