Already this issue seems to have better pacing than the last issue, the King Caesar thing seems to be moving along at a better pace.
I feel like this issue will be more jam packed! As for the monster cameo it's what that particular monster deserved: at this point if that creature or even a few of them faced Godzilla it would be underwhelming. I like the design of it though and I like the shot of it coming out of the forest, like a horror movie.

I'm also glad they're finally addressing the twins and giving them a proper backstory. I'm looking foward to this issue.

^ I agree, this was the best way to bring this monster into the series, via flashback. Also like that they went with the Showa version.

However, while its cool to see the twins getting some backstory... doesn't this create some issues, continuity-wise? When is this supposed to take place?

I suppose. It is very reminiscent of Ayana and Gamera's deal from Gamera III.

This honestly is a bit confusing. If they controlled Battra just to get revenge on Mothra, why did they want to become rulers of humanity (I never read KOM so forgive me if I'm wrong) and team up with the Cryogs?

In ROE, the Twins didn't willingly team-up with the Cryogs, at least not by the time we see them. They are captives of the Cryogs, being used for their mental powers.

In KOM, iirc, we are not given a complete rationale for the Twins' desire to control Godzilla. But it is not unreasonable to assume that the Twins saw Godzilla as the ultimate means to destroy Mothra.

The dad bit is irrelevant unless it's established they had a father prior. He could have been dead or their mom could
They team up with the cryog because they also want revenge on godzilla. Towards the end of KOM Godzilla kicks Battra and Rodans ass(though it's a lame fight) and are jealous that they can control Battra and Rodan but not Godzilla.

In History's Greatest Monster the twins disappear and Battra does not seem to be under their control. Yet in their first appearance in ROE they team up with the cryog. Without Battra they're pretty much powerless so it would make sense they would seek out the cryog and help them get revenge in the proccess. The cryogs intent of taking over the world would also include destroying mothra and the fairies as they pose a threat. Not to mention all of Mothras friends (Lucy, Woods, Chavez) are all friends of Mothra so it makes sense why they tried to destroy monster island.

As far as whether it's cliche or not I didn't feel that way. The Gamera connection does make sense but it's actually quite rare as a trope. In this instance Mothras winds did kill the mother, there's no denying that. Most of the time when a hero and others hate that hero it's either an impostor Villian or justified in some way. In this case Mothra just flat out accidently killed someone and I think it's a great addition to the comics to show that even the well meaning monsters can kill tons of people by accident. Mothra is also the least likely monster to choose to do this with. It would make sense if Angurius accidently killed a bunch of people because he's just a giant lizard/dinosaur/monster. Mothra has been shown to have cognitive abilities and be benovlent, especially in this comic.

In the end in glad they just gave them a quick backstory because KOM offered no explanation and gave them no real backstory. Even if this was quick it was nice that effort was put in and that another monster got to appear because of it.

Its a neat little sequence that answers some questions, but I honestly think its creating more than its answering. Pretty sure they're retconning some previous stuff here...

I'm also glad we get a new monster, even if it was only for a brief time. That means we only have one monster to go before the entire roster is complete (I do hope we see all the living ones together in the series climax).

Oh man, didn't notice Battra's face now, definitely funny.

If you're reffering to Ganimes I'm not quite sure how he would be fit in more than being complete fodder or some cameo on monster island in the last few panels of the comic; I have a heavy feeling one of the last pages of the comic will be a nice double page spread of all the monsters living on monster island with Godzilla in the center.

Kameobas needs more appearances (I wouldn't count one small panel a real appearance)but it looks like he's getting in somewhere based on some of the art by Matt and Zornow.

I really enjoy the level of emotion Frank puts into the kaiju's faces, even the ones where we wouldn't expect to see emotion.

This whole thing seems so random to me. The back story for the twins. If you can call it a back story... is just odd. G-Mantis looks so goofy, and was more filler, then anything else. Yeah I'm not as excited anymore for this.

I don't know why this is random. Last time I checked Battra was beaten by the trilopod and the twins save him. This gives reason to why they keep trying to attack Mothra and shows why they're so thankful Battra helps them. Presumably they'll have more significance in the rest of the issue. How is that random!

Also yes, wow I completely forgot about Minya, WOOPS.

Sure but I'm basing some of my statements on the assumption that the twins will continue to play a part in the story or even in the climax. I feel like this issue will resolve the Battra Twins line as well as free King Caeser and then begin the big climactic brawl. I may be completely wrong and the twins will be irrelevant, we'll just have to wait.

^ They already established the relationship between Battra, and the twins in previous issues. This to me seemed pointless. They could have removed the unnecessary, and confusing back story, and just show the twins helping Battra.
