Albums You Cherish....

Postby Hedorah » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:23 pm

This is inspired by the "albums you regret buying" thread. Sooooo it's just the opposite of that, name the albums you cherish and why. Ok here it goes for me:

"S&M" by Metallica:
Alrighty this is, in my opinion, one of the single greatest live albums ever recorded. I mean you take a heavy thrash metal band like Metallica, and you pair them with a symphony. Sounds crazy right? So crazy that it would be great! Most S&M recordings are better then their original recordings. Master of Puppets is just phenomenal.Plus you get 2 brand new songs as well. "No Leaf Clover" is my personal favorite. "- Human" is also good. I cherish this because it is very impressive to me, I uploaded it to iTunes as soon as I got it home. I use it sparingly on CD players, I don't want it scratched at all. Ok enough of this one, onto the next one...

"Countdown to Extinction: Remixed and Remastered" by Megadeth:
I found this at FYE for 7 bucks. I had to pick it up. This is IMO Megadeths best album. They sound great, Mustaine has his snarl perfect. Epic solos as always as well. I also like the bonus tracks, they are great. The Demo recording are also very interesting. I like being able to hear what the songs were planned to sound like. "Symphony of Destruction" has an interesting demo because the song was originally supposed to include a solo for every instrument. It's a very cool album that I own.

Ok enough of mine, onto you guys!

"Sign O' the Times" -Prince
In my opinion it is the BEST album to come out of the 80's and Prince's last mind blowing album. He's had some good stuff since then, but nothing even comes close to this. This album is a true array of varity and only shows Prince's true mastery of arrangement and composition.

Marilyn Manson - (Holywood) Lyrically amazing, the artwork is very detailed an fantastic def a nice piece esp coming off of the tragedy of Columbine. I got a lot of shit listening to him after that it brings good memorys or a respectful icon of the 90's to comeback swinging both fist's in a positive way. Also was the first real concert i attended in 2000.. even tho he's slipped over the times ill always have this masterpiece to look back on.

Pink floyd - (The Wall) I love this album, Great Artwork, Great Lyric's esp for it's time... Love the atmosphere of the album an def takes you out of this world like a bad acip trip but in the end it's something you can always appreciate for what it is. Great Album

Atreyu - (The Curse) This is the truly perfect Atreyu album. From the powerful opening of Bleeding Mascara, to the calming Interlude. Alex and Brandon discover the perfect screaming/singing ratio, and Marc McKnight blows the bassist from the last album out of the water. The high point is Demonology and Heartache, what I consider the perfect metalcore song. For 7 bucks? Get it, I'd pay 60.

Bring me the Horizon - (Suicide Season)The second studio album by the band, this is a unique, powerful peace of unforgiving, heavy music.

"American Idiot" by Green Day. It was my first album of theirs and I am a huge freaking fan now because of this album. I'd finally found a good band that was also popular, and I loved how brazenly political it was (especially for its time, from what I hear). I love it.

The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest. One of my favorite albums, the jazz imbued beats and smart lyrics makes this album a classic. Even though it didnt go platinum (the next release Midnight Marauders did) it did have the song that put A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes into the spotlight - Scenario.
Which is my favorite song of all time.

Just dropping off two to start with.

BB King --- Live at Cook County Jail. The man at his best, top form in both voice and guitar work, professional backing band, and a certain element of raw energy coming from the prisoner audience. One I'll never grow tired of listening to.

The Who --- Live at Leeds. SO FRICKIN GOOD I CAN BARELY BELIEVE IT EXISTS. The Who at their peak as a live band, and easily being the best live band in the world at the time. The album you give to someone when they ask "What's rock and roll, anyway?", striking a balance between raw intensity and unified professionalism. Masterful, high-energy art rock, can't be topped.

Please tell me you realize how much better their old stuff is

Now now, I'll defend American Idiot here. perhaps not a rock opera on the level of a Tommy or an Arthur (really should've said something about Arthur, I'll make that another post....), but a very good album that'll likely be better regarded in another decade or so, after its period of radio airplay has died down. Say what you will about Green Day, but BJA is a damn good songwriter, and the band's continued success shows that.

Now I don't want this to get into a Green Day argument, but I'll just state what I mean, I remember when Green Day didn't wanna become huge and pop rock. I liked them because of their "f*** you" attitude and stuff. That all changed and then they became media whores and still are. I lost respect.

Huh, thats how I feel about Eminem, except when he came out he was all "I'll Kill Kim" this, and "I'll Put Kim in the trunk" that - you know, shitting all over his baby moma. But then I come to find out that he took her back in and she was pregnant with another dudes child, and he's all like "This baby will know me as Daddy."
Really Em? Respect lost.

Meh. I don't really focus on anything of theirs being "better" than anything else. It's all good to me in its own way.
And yeah, I know my shit about them. I've got all their albums, I could probably name almost all their songs off the top of my goddamn head. I'm not some idiot who's just like "OMG 21 GUNS ADN BLVD OF BROKEN DRAEMS ARE LIEK SOO GREAT DERP DERP DERP!!!1" "Cool. Ever heard Basket Case?" "LOL WTF IS TAHT?"
Didn't much care for 39/Smooth or Kerplunk, though... but that's probably just the low-budget production.

And you could probably say the Beatles were "media whores" too. I love them, but it's not like they never made a movie or went on a bunch of TV shows.
