My whine is, somehow the Whine Thread always turns into a "weekly debate thread" rather quickly even after the mods tell people to stop, which is pretty annoying.

If he's a troll, he's immensely successful. Most TK'ers can't handle trolls or trolling, even when they try to act like or convince themselves that they can. Anyway I thought that topic was OK in that it's nice to talk about the science part of science fiction for a change.
