New Board FAQ

Postby Arbok » Fri Jul 23, 2010 6:33 pm

This will be updated as time goes on to address, hopefully, the biggest questions related to the move. Feel free to post here if another question comes to mind, which may or may not be added to the first post.

Q: Why a new board?
A: A full explanation can be found here

Q: Why is my avatar on the right side? I want the old board look back!
A: There are several Toho related styles present on this board, and will be many more in the future. These are found in the Board preferences of the User Control Panel. Users wanting a style like the old forums will probably enjoy the Gotengo (Purple) one.

Q: Where do I check in to tell people of my username, new or old?
A: Right here.

Q: Someone took my old username, help!!!
A: A topic on the old board is set up to address this and to help ensure our dedicated posters get their old username on the new board.

Q: How come I can't put an image in my signature?
A: There is a topic related to this here.

Q: What is happening with the old forum's admins/moderators?
A: We deeply appreciate the work of the old crew of moderators and admins. They did a fantastic job overall and we are grateful to them. However, we were unhappy with the overall tone of the old board near the end from a few. There were numerous complaints e-mailed to us overtime, and eventually it convinced us to give this more thought. Many of the old staff will probably come back on, although possibly some fresh blood will be infused as well. Regardless, we are going to take hiring admins and moderators slowly at first.

Has the New Forum been adapted to have embed videos attached?

Yes

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=65&p=488#p488

Although if exploited or it causes problems, it will be stopped pretty quick.

Is the code, but you will have to figure out the dimensions and replace the numbers with them (for youtube, just click the embed option and they will be listed there).

How will the "report post" function work? Does someone look over it or is something done by a bot?

A user reports it, and basically the topic lights up so all of the admins/mods can see the topic in question and what the user wrote about it. If its deemed okay, the report is closed. If not, action will be taken.

This could only be a positive thing for TK in the future. Really.

Eh,I'm fine with the admins and mods we have/used to have. They can be rowdy sometimes but overall they are okay. Mods usually turn rowdy when the members themselves go out of hand.

I'm fine as long as Legionmaster is still an admin. :p

I see you already put some of TK's smilies in the system. I just want to know if the default ones will be changed. They clash horribly with TK's smilies, not to mention that they are just plain ugly to begin with.

Isn't it the job of a Mod to keep things from going out of hand?

True enough...but half the time, any attempts for mods to get this back in order are ignored by forum members.

And that's why they (and by "they", I mean admins/mods) have the power to punish people who constantly ignore their commands, as well as lock topics.

Wasn't trying to make a judgement call on that or anything, just responding to a post.

And I don't know who either of those people are... :(

I know. I'm just saying that things aren't what they used to be.

Strangelove and wataru were two members that made the board very interesting in the past.

There is an ignore list, HS; it's the "friends and foes" part in the user control panel.

What's the width and height limit for Sigs. Since I've never seen any CPU tell me what big it has to be with Sigs. I have to consult with the admins for that

EDIT:

All right, so I read the deal in Images in sig, and left a comment.

But now this is about avatars.

The largest size an avatar can be is 110 (width) by 130 (height) pixel dimensions, and up to 100 kilobytes in file size.

You say that, but the CPU says differently.
For great justice, and fruit pies!

What about adding spoiler tags? That would be nice if you are using huge images, or posting a spoiler for a movie.
