As a moderator on the old boards, posts are sometimes deleted when a mod or admin is pruning old topics. It's nothing to freak out over.

Not trying to be argumentative, just bring up a valid point that if posts are edited for being against the forum rules (inappropiate content, etc.) I could understand something like this. Otherwise, why would this occur?

If the search "button" (which is really a search link) is touted so much, then why have our posts deleted? If hard drive space is an issue, how about eliminating the worthless Media Center section (which I can only reason why it stays in is because it keeps the forum "alive" but having people post about recent films and shows) and the General, General Discussion above it?

It's almost exclusively spam-related. There was a specific period of about two weeks where I noticed that GXG and a few other minor accounts had their passwords guessed and several hundred of their posts edited to say simply "X." I deleted as many of those as I could find, because single letter posts are obviously spam and there was no way to recover the original texts. Resulting from that, sometimes a topic became one other person appearing to have a conversation with themselves, which is also spam, and sometimes led to an entire topic being deleted. GXG noticed his post count shrinking (whoever guessed his password must have edited close to 300 posts) and freaked out over it, but I explained what happened and everything was fine after that.

That's sad. This deletes alot of interesting if not thought-provoking conversations.

Is the reason why so many people on these forums quote "everything" including pictures (using up that person's bandwidth) instead of selecting the actual sentence or text they are actually replying to?

Something happened to one of my posts back in december of 2011 that has been bugging me ever since, and I would like to know if it is related to this.

In the thread "Akward/Questionable moments from Toho films" I made a post about 'Godzilla's Revenge' and it's "moral"... but my post was later modified somehow, my whole comment was turned into a quote, followed by something written by someone else, in disagreement with what I originally wrote, as I latter made clear.

The user omgitsgodzilla said something that I think suggested a comment getting deleted and somehow combining with mine... is that even possible in this forum? Has it happened before? Because I don't like the idea of a mod intentionally editing my post into making it look like I am saying what s/he thinks...

We prune topics ever so often, keeping the post counts but removing the actual posts. These are related to mostly locked topics that no longer has a purpose (example, a locked "hello thread") or ones where the original thread was in violation (example, bot posting). Here was a recent topic about it, but didn't gain much traction:

This is done to clean up search results a little, but also to keep topics the most relevant.

That said, I did have to recently prune a very huge SH Monsterarts topic (2.0) as somehow it created a bug that caused it unviewable at all. Was quite sad about that.
