Godzilla:Daikaiju Battle Royale Discussion (Update: Christmas 2023)

Post by AWMGodzilla62 »

This thread is for the discussion of my Flash game, Godzilla: Daikaiju Battle Royale.
What is G:DBR?
It is a fighting game that features a wide variety of everyone’s favorite Kaiju from the Godzilla universe! It can be played against a computer opponent or with a friend. All the graphics are completely new, designed and animated by myself. G:DBR features classic Godzilla tracks remixed by Darth Calypso and omgitsgodzilla.

Spoiler:
After much consideration, I've decided to release the game earlier than I had originally planned. :D I felt bad that not everyone was getting to enjoy it! While I'm sure some bugs may pop up once in a while, the more people playing it, the quicker I'll find them and be able to fix them anyhow. I've been able to fix quite a few of the big ones thanks to my few early playtesters. ;) Thank you again for your feedback Melissa (not a member of TK in case you were wondering who that is), LivingCorpse, and Zilla :) Also would like to thank GIGAN05 for providing the accurate final form Biollante roar! Once I get a really polished version, I'll send it off to Arbok or somebody to have it posted on Toho Kingdom for a direct download, but for now its just going to be playable on this link. Also, be sure to still stop back on the forum again on Christmas, I may still have another surprise up my sleeve for ya! ;) Well without any further delay, here's the full game! Enjoy! :D

Updated Changes (12/25/12)
- Fixed the problem with Jet Jaguar and other Kaiju freezing randomly during a fight and being unable to end a battle.
- Battra, Leo, and Garuda's basic attacks are toned down a little.
- Leo 1996's Lightning Attack does less damage.
- Zilla's firebreath (both forms) now cost less to perform. Still weak attacks, but can use them more often to inflict more damage.
- Burning Godzilla's special moves don't spasm anymore if you try to use them during a jump.
- Gorosaurus' Kangaroo Kick inflicts more damage.
- Fixed Gigan 2004 and Burning Godzilla from doing an infinite looping freeze animation
- After much searching through Anguirus' coding, I found one thing that may have been the cause to the controls switching to 2 player mode. Hopefully this is now fixed.
- Random Button still stays even after unlocking the Platinum Monsters
- Put in the password to unlock everyone for a Christmas surprise :D
Updated Changes (1/12/13)
- Fixed another thing that was causing the Anguirus switch to 2 player controls. Seems to be working fine now
- Lowered the cost of MG74's eye beams and all out assault attack.
- Zilla now has his fall over animation when you defeat him.
Updated Changes (1/25/13)
- Fixed the city stage so you don't see parts of the lower fired beams through the ground
- Fixed the overpowered hold two buttons killer Battra beam glitch
- When you unlock all the characters, I made it so that if you want a random Kaiju, you now have to roll over and click the character headshot box to get a random Kaiju. I needed some more room on the character select screen for something.... ;)
Updated Changes (3/31/13)
-Intro copyright dates now say 1943-2013 (I know everyone's been asking for that to be corrected)
-Gorosaurus' Kangaroo Kick does not take away energy from you unless contact is made with opponent.
-Garuda's Special requires more energy to use, his speed decreases even more when recharging energy, and regular short blast don't fire quite as fast. Hopefully he's a bit more balanced now!
-Fixed the problem of pushing yourself off the map if you use a Special on an opponent that is corned.
-Put in the Password to Unlock everyone and then look through the character incarnations to find your Easter Surprise!
-2 Easter Eggs have been added! Both involve character defeat animations.
Updated Changes (5/15/13)
- MechaGodzilla 1974's All Out Assault Attack does more damage
- Jet Jaguar, Fake Godzilla, and MG74 have accurate foot-stomp soundeffects.
- Jet Jaguar has his flying sound effect for his special attack
- Gigan 1972 has accurate flying soundeffects
- Mothra 2003's roar is incarnation accurate
- Pressing two buttons like punch and walk will no longer freeze the character. Now instead they will play their walking animation.
- To cause your opponent to flinch from a physical attack, you now have to be punching them directly in the chest. No more punching a beam and causing the enemy to flinch.
- Defending against physical attack now causes both you and the opponent to bounce back from each other.
- It is now possible to defend against Special Attacks temporarily. Special Attacks that are physical break opponents guard quicker than beam attacks due to having to be closer to cause damage.
Updated Changes (5/21/13)
-Mothra Larva 2003 is available to select now. No need for a password either, she's available from the start and is another Kaiju that could unlock Kamacuras.
-Anguirus' standing special attack has been adjusted due to the new combat system.
-Jet Jaguar's special attack has been adjusted to do more damage due to the new combat system.

King Ghidorah Poll Results (1/8/2013)
The results for the King Ghidorah poll are in! Not surprised with the winner here, the combination of people wanting more GDF characters plus him being a Mech made him pretty obvious.
1. Mecha King Ghidorah - 142
2. Death Ghidorah - 127
3. Grand King Ghidorah - 110
4. Cretaceous King Ghidorah - 74
5. King Ghidorah 2001 - 69
6. King Ghidorah 1991 - 66

Remaining Godzilla Incarnations Poll Results (8/8/2012)
The Godzilla incarnation poll has ended, and the results have been tallied and analyzed in several categories! It’s quite interesting how the results vary depending on what aspect you look at it.

Total Score:
1. Godzilla 1954 – 176
2. Burning Godzilla – 171
3. Godzilla 2004 – 145
4. Super Godzilla – 141
5. Godzilla 1984 – 115
6. Godzilla 1968/72 – 93
7. Godzilla 1975 – 92
8. Godzilla 2002/03 – 79
9. Godzilla 1955 – 60
9. Godzilla 1989/91 – 60
10. Godzilla 1965/66 – 45
11. Godzilla 1967 – 22

One thing I found surprising about the poll was how well Godzilla 1975 did. I thought with Godzilla 1973 being in, he would have been lower in favor of more unique designs. I was also surprised at how well Super Godzilla did considering he is not canon to the movies. Then again, this is a video game universe we’re talking about in G:DBR

Total Votes:
1. Godzilla 1954 - 18
1. Burning Godzilla – 18

4. Godzilla 2002/03 – 13
5. Godzilla 1968/72 – 12
5. Godzilla 1975 – 12
6. Godzilla 1955 – 10
6. Godzilla 1989/91 – 10
7. Godzilla 1965/66 – 9
8. Godzilla 1967 – 8

While the top 5 remained the same on this list, it is interesting to note that Godzilla 2002/03 was actually voted for more than G68 and G75. However, while SOS Godzilla was on more people’s minds, he was never ranked very high when mentioned, so his score wasn’t as high as the other two.

Average Scores:
1. Godzilla 1954 – 9.8
2. Burning Godzilla – 9.5
3. Godzilla 2004 – 9.1
4. Super Godzilla – 8.8
5. Godzilla 1968/72 – 7.8
6. Godzilla 1975 – 7.7
6. Godzilla 1984 – 7.7
7. Godzilla 2002/03 – 6.1
8. Godzilla 1955 – 6
8. Godzilla 1989/91 – 6
9. Godzilla 1965/66 – 5
10. Godzilla 1967 – 2.8

While 1954, Burning, Final Wars, and Super remained solid throughout all the categories, G68’s average score was actually a little higher than G84’s. In addition, G75 was also high enough to tie with G84.

Overall this poll was quite fun and informative as to how to move forward with Godzilla incarnations. As the poll shows, there’s a lots of factors to take into considerations. :) Thank you for participating!

Can't wait! And you picked my favorite incarnation of Godzilla :D . I vote for land.
You know, Darth Vader cannot be Luke Skywalker's father. They don't have the same last name.

That Godzilla looks very well made. It kind of reminds me of the Godzilla, Gigan, Ghidorah, and Mothra that were made to be on the screen while you use Google.

Looks like you're putting a lot of effort into it. Is G64 the only incarnation?

Wow, this looks like it could turn out to be pretty cool. That Godzilla looks great. How big are you looking to make this game?

Also, I vote land.

Land

And OMG that looks great!!!

do you plan on having more then one incarnation of Godzilla/friends? Or just one incarnation per monster?

If you are planning on more then one, skins? or seperate characters?

I am seriously looking forward to this!!

I think its best if he starts off nice and easy, grab an understanding on the limitations he has, and create a prototype of his creation. Once he understands his creation, limitations, and the areas that he can improve on and develop, then the massive growth process can begin.

So until then, I don't think that will be more then one incarnation, unless he wants change that of course.

Also I vote Land.

I know he needs to understand the limitations. I also know that this isn't his first Godzilla fan game.

I asked about the other incarnations because of the way he revealed 64. Sounded like he has others in mind.

Probably not a shock to anyone that Godzilla is in this game! However, the big question regarding him with the announcement of any Godzilla game is, which incarnation? Well take a look for yourself

Thank you, not just to Varan but to all who liked G64! There's a reason they look similar, I made Destroy All Google. However, don't let Destroy All Google be used as a judgement to how this game will be. The animated gifs in Destroy All Google are rather slow and jerky due to having very few animation frames (this was due to making the files small enough so it would run/load effectively). Flash is able to handle alot more, so the animations are much smoother and more detailed. ;)

I noticed several people are curious on the incarnations of Godzilla. I don't want to spoil much on the roster just yet, however I will say if there were to be other Godzilla incarnations, they would play differently. It'd be odd to have Godzilla 2000 using Godzilla 64's smokey firebreath, or Godzilla 64 using Heisei Godzilla's red spiral ray ;)
TitanoGoji16 wrote:How big are you looking to make this game?
If you mean roster, I don't want to spoil the fun just yet. But at the moment I'm just making it a fighter game. I was thinking after the initial release of making a 2.0 version with a few additional monsters that people request along with a destrution mode (think of the gameboy game, the good one where you go through cities). But step one is to just make a fighting game for now. :)

Land seems to be winning at the moment by... well a "landslide"

Who are you guys hoping to see when you vote land out of curiousity? That goes for the sea votes as well. I'm just wondering how close or off everyone is from what the monsters actually are.

Land: Anguirus, Baragon, Varan

Sea: Manda, Ebirah, Titanosaurus

I assume Rodan, Mothra, etc. would be under 'Air' and that if it was Gigan, Ghidorah, etc. you'd use 'Alien' as a hint.

And here's a question: are you sticking to Godzilla monsters or Toho monsters in general?

I hope it's just Toho monsters...

I wouldn't MIND other company monsters, but I just feel always wanting to add Gamera and stuff to Godzilla games seems so dumb. Makes it feel like it really IS a fan game ya know? Making a Godzilla game and sticking to just Godzilla monsters seems more professional.
