Return of Godzilla Fan edit (suggestions for DVD-R)

Postby Ethan » Mon Jul 18, 2011 7:07 pm

Well, after many failed attempts, it's finally done. A fan edited version of The Return of Godzilla which combines what I believe ar the best elements from both the Japanese and US versions. Scenes have been trimmed, rearranged, sound effects altered, Young's music added, etc.

Many of the cuts are ported from Godzilla 1985, but I have kept important character development, and have kept the Cold Era tension intact. In addition, Godzilla's rampage on Tokyo is very different from either version of the film. In particular I was interested in making it seem like Hayashida's device will not work, he doesn't get to test it. There also a few surprises out there I hope fans will dig.

Here some screenshots:

That little camera on the right is the logo from the HD broadcast. Some shots I've used from other sources didn't have it but I put it in for consistency.

Anybody interested say so, and links will be PMd.

PM me, this sounds pretty sweet. I assume the Japanese scenes are in the original Japanese, subtitled?

Nothing from the dubbings has been used. Save for certain sound effect in the end...

...Oh hell yes. XD That's probably the single best edit made in the US version. Awesome that you put it in there!

You should have rearranged or removed those shots of the big Godzilla foot during the Super X battle where the lighting is completely different. They're obviously supposed to go after the big explosion that sets everything on fire, but for some reason Toho put them before, even though the lighting doesn't match.

Also, what was the track you used for the end credits? I really liked it.

I may take out the big foot entirely if I do a V2 of the edit. It's a very delicate thing, to move shots and avoiding problems with the continuity.

It's the unused ending from Koroku's score. Thought it was more fitting than the "Goodbye now, Godzilla!" song.
