In 1962 Toho Company, in conjunction with Universal Pictures, released what remains the king of all giant monster movies - King Kong vs Godzilla. When two of the most iconic monsters in all of cinema went head to head it defined what would become an entire sub genre of monster movies - the monster fight or kaiju battle film. In addition to spawning countless imitations and knock offs, from here on out almost all of the Godzilla films would feature the big guy "vs" some other gigantic creature. In our modern age of strict copyright and unimaginative formality it's hard to imagine the significance of a crossover like this - this was bigger than Frankenstein vs The Wolf Man or Freddy vs Jason. In King Kong vs Godzilla two legendary icons of cinema from two separate studios in two different countries came together for the most colossal conflict the screen has ever known..still!


Fun super nerd fun fact: the movie was released in America on this day in 1963. So the day of this posting is the official 49th anniversary of the release in America.

Good stop-motion, especially the sets, but you spent a lot of the video just getting the two monsters together, and I think that could've been cut down to focus on the actual fight.
