Chapter 7
The Great Monster War
Metropolis
Superman arrived in Metropolis, surveying the damage that the winged creature Rodan had done. He felt relief that his wife, Lois Lane, was not in the city but was elsewhere on assignment for “The Daily Planet”. As he was flying, a multitude of voices came into his head, which meant that J’onn had put up the psi-net. As he flew across the sky he was not alone. Before he arrived, he teleported to his private sanctuary; The Fortress of Solitude. He brought along Krypto, his faithful dog from Krypton.
“Krypto, search the rubble for any survivors,” ordered the Man of Steel, pointing towards the ruins of an apartment building. Krypto barked in response and dove to the city below. Once grounded, he frantically dug in the building rubble for anyone who could be buried.
Superman spotted the culprit; Rodan was sitting in the rubble of an office building. Filled with anger over the destruction, he rushed the monster. Rodan turned his head towards the small red streak. It cocked its head in wonder. Using the momentum he built up, he swung his right fist with all his strength into the beak of the creature. The force was strong enough to cause the monster to stumble back. As Rodan shook his head to gain its senses, Superman’s eyes began to glow red intensely and he unleashed his heat vision. The massive twin beams streaked up Rodan’s cheek until they struck its left eye. The creature cackled in pain and wiped his face with his wing claws.
The winged reptile looked at the small hovering creature with anger in its eyes. The crown of thorns on Rodan’s head flashed with a purplish lighting and then he discharged his Uranium Heat Beam. Superman shot straight up to avoid the blast and took off across the sky. Rodan took to the air to give chase. The winged creature then began rapidly firing beams at the Man of Steel. Superman was lucky in dodging the blasts but feared he wouldn’t be able to for long. He then heard a familiar feminine voice.
Need some help, Superman? Superman turned in time to see a streak slam into the side of Rodan’s head, causing the monster to lose altitude. The object then landed on top of a building that was still standing. He recognized her with her white t-shirt that shown his insignia: Supergirl.
What are you doing here? he asked over the psi-net.
Batman called for extra help, she replied. He thought I’d be of use to you here. Rodan then turned its attention towards Supergirl and rushed towards her with its jaws agape. Supergirl narrowly dodged the monster by leaping into the air and its jaws slammed shut on her location picking up pieces of the building in Rodan’s jaws instead. The reptile’s head thorns began to glow as it spit out the rubble and just as it’s about to release another beam at Supergirl, a blue blast of energy came out of nowhere and struck the monster’s head on the right side, causing the winged monster to release the ray to its left. The beam instead went into a nearby building, causing the first couple of floors at the top to erupt into a fireball. Superman turned to see a silver glint from the flames.
“Captain Atom,” said Superman, identifying the newcomer.
Sorry about that, said Captain Atom, referring the fire caused by Rodan’s beam.
Don’t be, said Supergirl, as she hovered near Superman.
Look out! a different but familiar voice rang in their heads. The three glimpsed down to see Rodan unleash his heat beam at the group. The heroes scattered as the beam just missed them.
“I know that voice,” said Superman to himself. He looked down around to see the fallen angel Zauriel rushing the monster with his flaming sword aglow.
“Horrid demon!” Zauriel yelled as he swung his sword at the creature, striking the back of its left wing. Rodan roared in pain as the fiery blade cut into his wing. The angel then turned back at the monster and unleashed his sonic scream. The reptile winced at the cry and began to shake his head, trying to stop the noise in his head. The angel cut off the cry and motioned to the others to approach.
Time to get up close and personal, said Supergirl, cracking her knuckles. The three joined Zauriel and landed on the stunned creature’s back and began to beat on the monster. As the creature flailed in the air trying to dump the four heroes, unknown to them; in the rubble was Deadman, looking for survivors; helping the rescue effort.
Keystone City
Flash was inside a building that was damaged by the rampage of Anguirus. He picked up a young couple while the heroine Gypsy picked up their children and both of them got out of the building before the floor collapsed. After placing the couple down, he took off to check on any development with the conflict with Anguirus. He stopped to see Anguirus trapped in a large vat of tar formed by the hero Firestorm. After he formed the tar with his element changing abilities, he unleashed upon the creature an energy beam that shot from his hands, which seemed to do little damage to the monster. Wally also saw Adam Strange, an ally of the Justice League; use his jet pack to fly around and blast the trapped monster with his laser gun, which appeared to have done little damage to wherever it struck Anguirus as well. The size of the creature made the heroes look like insects in comparison. The reptile was too occupied with Big Barda, one of the New Gods, and John Henry Irons, known as the hero Steel, pounding on the creature’s head with their Mega Rod and hammer respectively. The monster roared in pain with every blow delivered. Big Barda is a being that comes from the planet New Genesis and like many of the inhabitants of the planet, is revered as a god. Flash made a mental note to ask Batman why he choose to send Steel here instead of Metropolis; not that the help wasn’t appreciated.
Flash! Gypsy’s voice came into Wally’s head, I have some more people trapped down here! Just as Wally took off to aid her, he made a silent prayer to himself that Kaiju and Atom were successful in getting that machine from the scientist.
Paris
J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter, has seen many strange creatures, but none as vicious as the monster known as Gyaos that he was facing now. The flying creature began to dive upon a group of fleeing people. The winged creature’s jaws were agape, ready to snatch human meat that would fill its mouth. A few tripped over the rubble and couldn’t get away. J’onn dived in front of the Gyaos and unleashed the full force of his Martian Vision upon the monster. The energy rays blasted the inside of the creature’s mouth. Blood erupted from the wounds. Cackling in pain, the crimson creature began to retreat into the air.
Behind J’onn, one of the New Gods called Lightray began to help the people who were being pursued by the creature.
“People have been cleared, J’onn,” Lightray told the Martian.
“Good,” he replied, Dr. Light, Ray: hit the creature while it’s distracted.
Right, replied Dr. Light.
Gotcha, said Ray. The two heroes took to the air towards Gyaos, who was still shaking its head from the blast.
I hated this monster as a child, said Dr. Light.
Well then, I guess you’ll probably enjoy this, said Ray.
Yeah, she replied with a smile. The two then unleashed energy blasts aiming at the creature. The combined force stunned the creature and it cackled in pain and anger.
We got it now! yelled Ray.
Now, Icemadian! J’onn said over the psi-net. From the wreckage of the Eiffel Tower blasts of cold, ice, and snow erupted from Icemadian’s arms and struck the creature in the back. Lightray, after clearing civilians joined in the assault with his own energy rays. Gyaos began to flail in pain from the combination of the energy beams and the cold blasts.
Keep it up everyone, said J’onn. Hopefully, this will keep it busy until help arrives.
Mexico City
In the heart of the city, the lizard Varan had Plastic Man pinned to the ground. In the form of a giant iguana, O’Brian tried to wrestle with the reptile, but was caught off guard by the reptile’s strength. The monster had already taken Booster Gold out of commission. He was taken aboard Blue Beetle’s Bug, a large beetle shaped flying vehicle, where Ted Kord, the true identity of the azure avenger, was tending to his injuries. Beetle found his ship’s weaponry to have the same effect on the flying lizard as Booster’s arsenal, none, and was forced to do repairs to Gold’s costume instead of continuing the pointless assault. The heroes were best friends when they were regulars in the early days of the League and only Ted had the know-how to make the necessary repairs. Scott Free, Mr. Miracle, helped clear citizens from the battlefield. He used his Aero-Discs on his feet that gave him the gift of flight to move quickly around the battlefield. Varan had pinned Eel to the ground, forcing the elastic superhero to return to his human shape. Plas tried to push the creature’s snapping jaws away from his head with his hands but the lizard was not easily discouraged.
A little help here! yelled Plastic Man in his mind, His breath stinks! Mary Marvel of the Marvel family flew in and slugged the creature on the snout. Varan backed off of O’Brian, rubbing its snout in pain. Plastic Man then wrapped his arms around the lizard’s neck and flipped the monster over his shoulder, slamming Varan into the wreckage of a hotel.
Perfect timing, O’Brian said to Mary.
Let’s hope that assistance is just as timely, she replied
Themyscira
Themyscira, living up to its nickname, was an island paradise that the Amazons called home for several thousand years. However, while the home of the Amazons have had its fair share of disasters in the past from Man’s World, the attack by the giant monster King Ghidorah was turning into its worst. Wonder Woman was helping carry her injured Amazonian sisters to the Purple Healing Ray, a magical device that could heal any injuries. When she arrived, her mother, Queen Hippolyta, had led the Amazons against the monster, but the primitive weaponry of the Amazons was no match for the creature. Fortunately, King Ghidorah hasn’t yet reached the main city of the island.
“How many more?” Diana asked her mother.
“Only a few,” answered Hippolyta, “Artemis has the last of them. That hydra is stronger than we imagined.” She equated the three headed dragon to the hydra from Greek mythology. The hydra was a multi-headed serpent whose heads would regenerate whenever they were cut off.
“Good,” said Wonder Woman, “I’m going after King Ghidorah.”
“Diana, wait!” replied Hippolyta, but it was too late, Diana had already taken to the air. “Hera, help her,” prayed the Amazonian queen.
Wonder Woman approached the interior of the island. As King Ghidorah towering over the forest came into view, Diana stared in wonder despite the fact that Kaiju had taken the form of this monster before.
“Stop!” she yelled as she approached the advancing creature. The monster stopped in its tracks and all three heads turned towards the small being that hovered in front of it.
“Stop what you are doing!” Diana yelled, trying to reason with King Ghidorah, “You’re destroying the island!”
Not phased by the words of the Amazon princess, the center head opened its mouth and a large jagged bolt of energy was released. Like Kumonga before it, the monster was not affected by Wonder Woman’s ability to sympathize with animals. Diana dove out of the way as the other two heads released their gravity beams. As Diana dodged wave after wave of gravity beams, she noticed that the center head blasted first then the other two heads followed suit.
“The center head must be the main brain of the three heads,” Diana said to herself out loud. After flying rapidly around the heads enough times to confuse them, Wonder Woman pulled her Lasso off her belt, got behind the creature’s center head and threw the Lasso over the middle head and clinched its jaws in the Lasso. Diana held on tightly to the lariat as it shook its head trying to get the rope off.
“I said stop!” yelled Diana. The head suddenly stopped and just stared ahead.
“That’s better,” she said moving in front of the head. Before she could issue any orders, the right head rushed towards her. Diana narrowly dodged the snapping jaws. Then the left head came at her, forcing her to drop the magic Lasso in order to avoid the creature’s teeth. The center head regained control of itself and the right head pulled that rope off of the jaws of the center head. The right head tossed it aside and the creature bellowed into the air. Diana stared at the monster.
“Hera, help us,” she said, “And help Kaiju with his mission.”
Moscow
Green Lantern flew above the city in a green fighter jet outfitted with a multitude of weaponry. He, along with the heroes Geo-Force, Captain Marvel Jr. (also known as CM3), and Orion of the New Gods, pursued the monster Battra in the sky above Moscow. Lantern glanced down at the Kremlin, which glowed from the flames that Battra’s eye beams inflicted upon the structure. Sickened by the sight, he turned back to the monster. The creature had looks of an insect and the wings were red with yellow and black streaks. Only word could describe the creature in Kyle’s mind: ugly. Below him in the damaged city, Animal Man and Black Condor were busily helping survivors of the attack.
Fire! yelled Kyle over the psi-net. Three of the heroes unleashed their energy weapons upon the monster. The multiple blasts struck the flying creature in the back. Battra screeched in pain and anger. The monster turned around and released laser beams from its eyes. The heroes dodged the blasts. Before the creature could discharge another round, CM3 came up from below and slugged the creature in the chin, causing the creature to become disorientated. As Marvel Jr. flashed a thumbs-up to Kyle, Lantern led the other two heroes in another fire attack upon the monster.
Atlantis
Aquaman, ruler of the underwater country of Atlantis, floated out in the water, staring at the serpent Manda as it constricted on one of the slender submarine warships. The force of the creature began to cause great stress on the large vehicle. The weaponry of the warships was proven to be somewhat ineffective, when they actually hit the swift swimming monster. He raised Neptune’s trident and unleashed an energy blast from the three points at the water snake. The blast caused some damage to the creature and got its attention. Manda released the ship from his coils and began to swim towards the source of the blast. The serpent opened its jaws, attempting to snatch up the aquatic hero. Before the greenish-gray dragon could reach Arthur, a sperm whale came out of nowhere and head butted the monster, knocking the serpent back a ways. He had earlier put out a distress call to any sea creature that could help in the battle.
Thanks, said Arthur.
You’re welcome, answered the whale, You and your giant reptile friend helped me once. I wish to return the favor. Aquaman suddenly recognized the markings of the mammal and realized that it was the sperm whale that Kaiju saved from a bunch of whalers. The whale then lunged at the monster and sunk its teeth into the body of the serpent. Manda roared in pain and began to wrap around the whale. The animal began to suffocate from the crushing coils of the monster.
“NOOOO!” screamed Arthur as he released a powerful blast of energy from the trident, striking the monster in the head. The distraction allowed the sperm whale to escape from the coils of the sea serpent and ascend to the surface for air. Arthur clinched his teeth and said:
“Help or no help, I’ll see to it you are destroyed, creature!”
Tokyo
Outside of the city, The Kaiju was human size, flying in the sky as the Final Wars Rodan with The Atom riding in his ear. Tim flew above a fairly moderate sized house that was a mile or two away from the closest neighbors.
“Is this house it?” Kaiju asked.
“Looks like the address,” answered Palmer. Ray had only known The Kaiju for a short while. He had confidence in the young hero, hoping this mission, being his first major take-charge-or-the-world’s-history case, won’t be his last. The Kaiju landed in front of the porch of the country house. Despite its location in the world, the house had a more western look to it.
“Dr. Palmer,” Kaiju said, “May I suggest you talk to him too? I think it would be a lot to process if it was just me he had to talk to.”
“Already thought of that,” he replied, leaping out of his ear and growing to his original height. “And please, call me Ray. I won’t be insulted.” Kaiju nodded and the two heroes approached the door.
“Nice place,” said Tim.
“It is,” replied Ray in agreement, “I don’t see a doorbell.” He then knocked twice on the door. A few seconds later a voice was heard in the house.
“You wouldn’t know Japanese, would you?” asked Atom.
“Even with all the movies I’ve seen, sadly no,” answered Kaiju. The door then opened slowly with a man’s face looking out upon the heroes, as if unsure of the reason for them standing there.
“My god, he looks the actor who played Dr. Serizawa in the movie,” Tim said to himself.
“Dr. Serizawa?” asked Dr. Palmer. The man nodded ‘yes’ in response. “I’m Dr. Ray Palmer, a.k.a. The Atom, and this is The Kaiju,” Ray went on with his hand out to shake.
“Dr. Palmer?” asked Serizawa, recognizing the name. He used very good English with just a tinge of a Japanese accent. “It is an honor to meet you.” He reached out and shook Atom’s extended hand.
“You speak English?” asked a stunned Kaiju.
“Yes,” he replied, “It is my second language. Now what can I do for the two of you?”
“We’re here on official Justice League business concerning the current monster crisis,” continued Kaiju.
Serizawa looked at them in fear, “You’ve come to arrest me for what I have done? I didn’t mean for this to happen! I’m sorry!” The man almost broke down in tears with his hands buried in his face. The two heroes exchanged looks of confusion, and then turned back to the scientist.
“No, Dr. Serizawa,” spoke up Ray in a calming voice, “We’re not here to arrest you.” The man looked up with some relief, “We’re here to see the machine.”
“The machine?” he asked with a puzzled look on his face.
“Yes,” answered The Kaiju, “The machine that brought the Xilians to life.”
“Oh! That machine!” he exclaimed, snapping his fingers as he remembered, “Right this way please! Anything to help the great Justice League,” he said as he waved them to come in. Atom and Kaiju followed the scientist through his house and down a flight of stairs to his basement lab.
“Boy this looks familiar,” Kaiju said to himself, making note to the familiarity of the basement stairs to the same movie he mentioned to himself earlier. Serizawa unlocked the door and motioned them in. The three of them walked into the lab with Serizawa leading them to where the machine was located. The lab also struck a familiar chord with Kaiju.
“If I see a tank full of fish skeletons, I’m outta here,” Kaiju said to himself, making reference to the famous scene from Gojira; where Serizawa revealed the weapon Oxygen Destroyer to his fiancé Emiko, the weapon that would kill Godzilla in the end.
“This is it,” Serizawa said pointing towards a small computer with a projector on the side of the wall.
“Interesting,” said Ray, “Tell me all about it.” As Dr. Serizawa explained the machine to The Atom and answered any questions he had as the two scientists approached the wall, Kaiju explored the lab, looking at all the “stuff”, as he called it, which looked similar to the movie. He wasn’t sure whether he was fascinated or creeped out by the fact that everything about this place resembled the lab from the movie. After a few minutes passed, he approached the two scientists, still in discussion of things that Kaiju could not make out.
“Can it be hooked up to a teleporter?” asked Tim when there was a break in the discussion of the two science guys.
“I just asked that,” Atom answered, “We sure can. Teleporters can act like a replacement for the projector. ”
“Why do you require that knowledge, Dr. Palmer?” asked the Japanese scientist.
“You didn’t tell him?” asked Kaiju, not realizing he may have said something he shouldn’t have.
Ray sighed, not knowing how to explain this, “Dr. Serizawa,” he said, finally, “the JLA asks that we borrow the machine so we can create our own army of monsters to counter the Xilian threat.” The scientist stared at the heroes as if he was in shock over the suggestion.
“I don’t think I could let you do that,” he said somberly.
“Why not?” asked Kaiju, not hiding his disappointment in his voice.
“I’ve already caused enough problems with this machine. I don’t want to add anymore to the problem.”
“Dr. Serizawa,” said Kaiju trying to keep his voice calm and not desperate for help, “You told us that you would do anything help the Justice League. You feel responsible for what’s happening in the world. It’s not your fault. You had no idea what would happen with this machine. If you want to make amends with what you’ve done and help stop what you’ve released, then I ask again, will you give us the machine to help us stop the monsters?” The scientist lowered his head and turned toward to the machine. After several minutes of silence, he finally spoke up:
“Take it. Take the machine and use it to save the world.”
“Thank you, my friend,” said Atom. The two heroes gathered up all the parts of the machine between the two of them. Kaiju then activated the com link:
“Batman, its Kaiju. Atom and I have the machine on our persons, teleport us up.”
As the two faded from the laboratory, Kaiju said to the scientist:
“Thank you Dr. Serizawa. You have just helped us save the world.”
Xilian Mothership
The Controller and his guards were in the main hall, watching all the cities that are being under attack by their monsters and the resistance that they were encountering from the super human community.
“Astonishing,” the Controller observed, finding himself actually impressed by the amount of superheroes that were in existence, “I had no idea there were so many superheroes that were allies of the Justice League.”
“Is this a problem, sir?” asked one of the guards, concerned over his leader’s attitude.
“No problem whatsoever,” he answered, brushing at the air with his hand, “It doesn’t matter how many there are on this planet. We’ll still crush them.” He then turned his attention back to the screen to watch more of the action.
New York City
Mr. Terrific stood on the roof of an adjacent building to the arena known as Madison Square Gardens, where the Justice Society of America managed to hold the monster knows as Hedorah in the rubble. The JSA was the world’s first super hero team, formed during the Second World War. His T-Spheres, round floating objects that are capable of both info gathering and offensive capabilities, tried to shock the smog monster with electricity, its main weakness shared to the Society by Batman, but did little damage to the Smog Monster.
Several heroes were busy trying to clear the area of civilians. Jay Garrick, whom was the original Flash, the Star-Spangled Kid, Sand, Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, and Wildcat all tried to rescue anyone still in the rubble due to their powers being made useless against the large mound of living sludge. Atom Smasher grew to match the size of the monster and tried to wrestle with the creature but was forced to retreat due to the burns from the sludge and the eye beams that the monster emitted. Hawkman and Hawkgirl both almost lost their weapons to the corrosive nature of Hedorah’s sludge when they made contact with the monster. The other two main power hitters, Power Girl and Captain Marvel, found their attacks to have little effect on the monster. The only heroes that were able to successfully attack Hedorah was Dr. Fate with his magic, Sentinel, the first Green Lantern, using his Starheart energies, and Thunderbolt, under the control of Jakeem Thunder. The triple assault from the three heroes was the cause of the halt in the monster’s destruction through the city.
Hawkman landed near where Terrific was stationed, his mace showing corrosion from the sludge of the creature.
“Michael,” said Hawkman, “How much longer till we have help?”
“When The Kaiju is able to procure the means to get it,” Mr. Terrific replied, not taking his eyes off the creature.
Carter grunted at the comment, “Why would the League trust this big of a crisis to an amateur?”
“If he’s good enough for the League to trust him,” answered Terrific, taking his eyes off the action and looking at his teammate, “it should be good enough for us.”
San Francisco
Nightwing, Dick Greyson, leader of The Titans, was giving orders to the team in the harbor, away from where the monster Gigan was unleashing its wrath. The Titans consisted of a team of former protégés of several members of the JLA, now their own people. Jesse Quick and Arsenal were regulated to crowd control, since their abilities were not of use against the monster. Troia’s physical attacks along with Beast Boy, in the form of a T-Rex failed to do anything to the monster. But they didn’t need to, they were merely bait. The two of them lured the cyborg out of the city and into San Francisco Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge where Starfire, Tempest, Cyborg, Damage, and Argent were located.
“Team A, clear out!” ordered Dick, “Team B, let him have it!” Donna and Gar cleared the area, allowing the others to open fire upon Gigan with their energy blasts. The monster screeched in shock and pain as the respective energy attacks pummeled the creature. When the creature backed up, it caused waves to crash into the nearby shipyard, demolishing many of the shipping containers.
“I hope this will hold the monster until help arrives,” Nightwing said to himself.
Seattle
The team known as Young Justice was busy handling the monster known as Baragon. Young Justice was a team that consisted of teenage heroes, a few of them being young sidekicks; just as The Titans were before. Red Tornado, member of the JLA and mentor to the young heroes, and Robin, the Boy Wonder, were stationed on the Space Needle, now toppled to the ground by the giant dinosaur, delivering orders to the other members while Impulse, Empress, and Secret moved civilians to safety. This left Superboy, Wonder Girl, and Lobo, know de-aged to that of a teenager, to confront the alien controlled beast. The three got into the creature’s face and pummeled it with their fists. Annoyed by the repeated attacks, Baragon reared its head back with flames licking at the lips of the monster.
“Scatter!” yelled Robin over the headsets. The three took off in different directions away as Baragon unleashed a stream of fire from its mouth at the three heroes. Red Tornado landed in front of the dinosaur and unleashed a cyclone at Baragon that caught the fire that the creature exhaled and threw it back at it. The purple-red monster recoiled in pain and brushed at its face, trying to stop the burning sensations. The three young heroes then resumed their assault on the monster.
“Whatever crazy idea Kaiju has to handling these things,” Red Tornado said to Batman over the JLA com link, “Hope he gets it here fast.”
Shanghai
Out of Shanghai, against the monster beetle Megalon, the International Ultramarine Corp has had the same success rate of the other ally teams in consistently keeping pressure on a monster. A team originally formed by a rogue general hoping to have a way to stop individuals like the members of the JLA, they know fight alongside them for truth and justice. Knight, Squire, and Jack O’ Lantern were busy helping any people who’ve been caught in the path of the monster. Megalon was able to beat back Pulse 8 and Goraiko when Flow, 4-D, and their leader Warmaker One attacked the monster. Their abilities had little effect on the monster and Megalon released a lightning bolt from its horn on its head at the heroes, causing them to scatter in all direction. When Warmaker One landed, he contacted Batman to send him a report on what was happening.
“We’re getting creamed down here!” said the hero.
“Just keep that thing busy until help arrives,” answered Batman.
“Easier said then done!” fired back Warmaker One as he released another barrage of missiles from his wrists on Megalon, who was know starting to become annoyed by the relentless attacks of the heroes.
London
In city of London, the monster Zilla was able to hold its own against the heroes. Pat Dugen, the robot suited hero STRIPE, was forced to retreat after taking the full brunt of the reptile’s flame breath. Black Canary, one of the founding members of the Justice League, came up with a plan that would hopefully incapacitate the monster with a full frontal assault. Green Arrow and Blue Devil attracted the monsters attention with explosive arrows and energy blasts respectively. The large reptile began to advance towards the two heroes.
“Are you in place Ralph?” asked Canary. Ralph Dibny, The Elongated Man, stretched himself between two buildings behind Zilla.
“Ready,” he answered. Dinah approached the monster as it came upon Green Arrow and Blue Devil. She opened her mouth and unleashed her Canary Cry, a barrage of high intensity sound waves, upon the monster. The sound waves bombarded the creature, which roared and shook its head in pain. Zilla began to back up and turn around in order to retreat from the sound when one of the lizard’s feet got caught on Elongated Man’s stretched-out form. The monster fell forward and slammed its head against the large clock tower known as Big Ben. The creature was lying on the ground disorientated from both the Canary Cry and the blow to the head.
“That was almost too easy!” yelled Green Arrow. The creature then began to right itself, roaring in anger.
“Like I said,” he continued in a frustrated tone, “It was too easy!”
Sydney
The hero Fire was lying in the rubble of the Sydney Opera House. Against the robot monster Mechagodzilla, she found her powers to have no effect on the machine’s space titanium body. She was blasted out of the sky when one of the monster’s finger missiles exploded in mid-air close to her. As she got up, Fire saw her fellow heroes, Warrior and Etrigan the Demon, blasted out of the way of Mechagodzilla when its eye beams took out the hotel that the two were standing on.
“Batman,” she reported to The Dark Knight, “Our abilities have no effect on the robot.”
“Do what you can,” he replied. Fire, realizing that she could not fight the mechanical monster, she instead joined the heroes Tasmanian Devil and Cliff Steele, Robotman of the Doom Patrol, helping any injured people in the city.
Chicago
Vixon charged at Gaira, the green Gargantuan; drawing upon the mass of an elephant into her rush. She collided with the side of the foot, causing the creature to roar in pain. When the creature turned its attention towards the heroine, Black Lightning and Jade bombarded the monster with their lightning bolts and Starheart energy respectively. While this was going on; Connor Hawke and The Creeper were helping any civilians caught in the monster’s path. When Zatanna found out that they were doing alright, she took advantage of the distraction by her teammates to find a way to confront the creature head on.
“Retsnom fo ezis ot worg!” said the magician, chanting the spell backwards. She increased her height to match that of the monster. Gaira saw the large heroine in front of it and stared in disbelief. She used the moment to rush the monster and slugged it in the face, knocking it down into the shopping complex known as Water Tower Place.
“How about picking on someone your own size!” she yelled at the creature as she shot a blast of magic out of her hand at the monster.
Watchtower
In the Monitor Womb, Batman was keeping tabs on all the cities that were being affected by the monster crisis. As Batman finished the latest report, The Atom and The Kaiju returned to the Watchtower with Dr. Serizawa’s machine.
“We have the machine Batman,” said Kaiju, him and Atom sticking their heads into the room to get a glimpse at the action all over the world.
“How’s everyone holding up?” asked Ray.
“Some are doing well, some not so good,” answered Batman, with his eyes still fixed on all the screens in the monitor womb, “How soon can you hook up the machine to the teleporters?”
“15 minutes ago,” said Atom, implying that they could do it fast. He and Tim placed the machine’s parts where they could hook them up to the teleporters and the two of them got to work. Several minutes passed, Kaiju was passing a wrench to Atom when he let out a sigh.
“What’s on your mind, Kaiju?” asked Ray, noting the loud exhale.
“It’s nothing,” said Tim defensively, “You’re busy enough; you don’t need to hear my troubles.”
“I can work and listen. Tell me what’s troubling you.”
“Well,” he began, “When I first started becoming The Kaiju, I was worried that portraying Godzilla and his monster brethren as heroes would continue to keep the stereotype of them as merely kiddie heroes alive in people’s minds. But now with this crisis, between the monster attacks and having monsters on our side, I fear that this will damage their reputation even more to the point it couldn’t be repaired.”
“Okay,” said Ray, still working, “Wasn’t Godzilla’s purpose to show the dangers of nuclear technology?”
“Yes,” said Tim, shocked that Atom knew this.
“Well, you could say that, in a ways, even though Godzilla destroying Tokyo was a bit extreme to show it, he was in fact always a “good guy” in that filmmakers were showing the folly of humans and only wanted what was best for the world in general. So do you, and that’s what the monsters would be fighting for.”
“Thanks,” said Kaiju, grateful for the answer that Ray gave him.
“Are you gentlemen quite finished?” asked Batman impatiently from the chair in the monitor womb.
“Almost,” said Atom, as he connected one last wire. The machine’s screen lit up to show the configurations for the teleporters.
“Okay! We’re online!” said Atom as he pulled up a chair to the machine’s keyboard.
“Just tell me who, where, and any additional powers Kaiju and I’ll type them in as you speak.”
“Can we do that on this machine?” asked Tim, referring to the additional powers comment.
“You bet,” he replied, “Dr. Serizawa had put that option in here. Abilities that none of them had, to powers from different movies, like what you do. He told me that while he was trying figure out the cause of the Xilians coming into our reality; he made an apple that tasted like tuna fish.”
“Yummy,” said Kaiju with a disgusted look on his face.
“He said the same thing,” answered Ray with the same look of disgust.
“Alright,” started Kaiju, getting down to business, “First, all the monsters will be under our control, but give them free will and improved intelligence, in that they see us and the rest of our monsters as allies and to keep the trust angle going, give them all the ability to communicate telepathically, so we can give orders and any help should they seek it and vise versa, and all monsters have regenerative properties that allow quick healing or repair should the monster be mechanical.”
“Gotcha,” said Dr. Palmer, typing it in, “Now for the monsters.”
Kaiju started listing as Atom put in the data.
“To start, the Final Wars Godzilla, send him to Paris. Fire Rodan will be sent to Metropolis. The Tokyo SOS Mothra will have the antennae rays from the Heisei series and the reflective powder will be continuous. She will be sent to Mexico City. Mothra Leo will take on Megalon in Shanghai. Rainbow Mothra, with the ability to turn into Aqua Mothra, will be sent to Atlantis. Armor Mothra, send him to San Francisco. The Mothras will have all their powers from the movies. Gamera 3 will be sent to Themyscira. Showa Anguirus will face his FW form in Keystone City. He will have the ability to curl into a ball as well. Send Godzilla Jr. to Moscow. The brown Gargantuan Sanda will go to London. Mecha-King Ghidorah will be sent to New York City. Seattle will have MOGUERA. Send Jet Jaguar to Chicago. Finally, Kiryu, from Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, will be sent to Sydney. Kiryu will be able ditch its weaponry when it needs to and be able to call it back. Like should an arm attachment get destroyed, it could call on another one.”
“It’s all been put in,” said Atom as his fingers flew across the keyboard. “All we have left to do is press the send button. Would you like to do the honors?”
“Of course,” said Kaiju. He approached the keyboard and then struck a corny heroic pose, which caused Ray to snicker a bit.
“I’ve always wanted to do that,” said Kaiju with a smile. “Batman, let everyone know that help’s on the way. Time to save the world.” he said as he pushed the send button. As the monsters were being sent to their respective cities, Kaiju took off toward the teleporters, changing into the form of Godzilla 2000; a more edged take on the creature with an almost alligator snout to it.
“I’m going to Mexico City. Mothra may need some help with Varan.”
“Good luck son,” said Atom as Kaiju disappeared. “I hope you’re right about this.”
