Yeah, I tried to stay as true to their concept as possible, portraying them as what I think they would behave and operate like if they had succeeded in creating a normal queen and formal swarm minus the influence of Godzilla DNA. However, the animal buff in me can't reconcile all the bizarre attributes and biological problems with how they were portrayed...I mean, part of what makes kaiju so fun is that they defy what we know of as possible and impossible, but I think Toho went a bit overboard with the Megas, especially when you put into consideration that they never made it clear as to whether or not the Megas were natural creatures or if they were mutated by their mother's travel through time via that blackhole gun of theirs. I mean, even Megaguirus was implied to have been an actual prehistoric monster rather than a mutation born of Godzilla's energy/DNA.

I've also done some research on dragonflies and learned that they do actually swarm in real life, BUT, only for the purpose of feeding or migrating rather than as part of a hive mentality. Basically, if there is a large source of food in a given area, the dragonflies will congregate together and eat their fill (and will often remember to return to an area or object where their prey tends to gather), eating their own weight in food in about 30 minutes...So imagine a heavily populated city full of humans are to Meganula what mosquitoes would be to normal dragonflies and you have yourself an all you can eat buffet

So basically, the Meganula could swarm together en-mass because they are hungry and know from experience that cities and towns are filled with tasty bite sized humans instead of for the reasons they did it in the movie, OR, because they're simply following each other to new hunting grounds (no queens to be made, no cooperation, just a massive swarm of gnashing teeth and grasping claws waiting in the same lunch line). Biologically speaking this makes alot more sense than the idea of thousands of Megas sacrificing themselves to make a single queen who may not survive long enough to lay more eggs. My idea would be to model the Megas more after this concept, after real dragonflies, but they could still have some unusual features like the tail stingers, after all even in their original appearance in the Rodan movie they were clearly not natural insects.

Megaguirus could still come into being someday in story if I chose to do so, but she would more likely be a mutation, a one of a kind freak, a monster amongst Meganulas

P.S. real dragonflies are apparently super territorial, males in particular only allowing females in their own territories and chasing away any rivals who intrude.

Very territorial, eh? And they swarm in big groups? Duke, you got a great set of drone villains on your hands here. It would be nice to get a terror vibe in scenes where humans fight off the Mega bugs. Dang, there's so much potential!! I'm all excited now!

I'll try not to disappoint

However, if I go with this new portrayal, I'll have to go back and edit the chpt introducing Team Garuda and Mothra Leo during the Manza Beach incident.

The artwork was done by AlmightyRayzilla, one of the best Kaiju artists on DA, just so there's no confusion. I told him what I wished to see and he made it into something better

That's epic. That's so frickin epic. I wonder if he could do a Demon Caesar and Asuka Fortress...and a Gabara (Fan Fic version). Nah, I won't put too much stress on the guy. He probably gets enough requests as is.

Actually, he's open for commissions right now at very reasonable rates. You can only secure one slot, BUT, he allows his customers to request two pics if they so choose with whatever monsters/mecha they want within, etc

If you wish to have any of your fanfic kaiju drawn up I suggest you note him on DA and hire his services, he's a big kaiju fan so he's familiar with all sorts of obscure creatures and is quite skilled at bringing OC monsters to life so to speak

Yep, ya gotta pay for them if ya want them, its how alot of DA artists make money, but like I said before, his rates are pretty fair compared to most, cheap even
