Godzilla: The Revenge of Sekhmet (Chapter 5)

Post by BlankAccount »

Authors Note: M for mature.

Prologue I
1954, The Pacific

Deep under the ocean, a colony of prehistoric reptiles is going about their life, with some resting and others actively swimming. On the surface the world has changed a lot but in the timeless depths of the ocean these forgotten reptiles had remained in isolation and free from the destructive nature of an unaware humanity.

It would not last forever.

A bright flash of light. The dinosaur like creatures alerted to the disturbance looked up at the surface of this blinding light before all they knew was pain and then nothing. One of these creatures woke up on a beach, feeling like it dying. It saw the bodies of others of it's kind, it's family, washed up on the same beach, dead. Something was wrong, as the creature started to shudder and vomit. Even when his stomach had ran empty he continued to dry heave. The creature started to grow exponentially, howling in pain as the small stubby bone protrusions of it's back grew and branched out, blood violently spraying forth from the wounds.

When he stopped growing the creature collapsed on the ground, exhausted, weakened, tired. He stared at the now tiny bodies of his family, whimpering like an injured dog, too tired to move before sleep took it over.

Prologue II
She woke up hoping it was all a nightmare. The reality of her situation made her realize it wasn't. The chains connected to the cargo container wall and the collar around her neck were real. The others around her made it a reality. There were 20 or so other people with her. All from different parts of the world. White, black, asian, etc. Most of them women or girls and boys around her age, but there was even a few men. None of them were her family. She wish they were, at least she would know if her mommy, daddy, brothers and sisters were alive. They were celebrating her 8th birthday on the farm when the bad people came and separated them all. Daddy got hurt when he tried to fight back. She didn't know what they wanted or what they were gonna do then. Even then she still didn't know, just that it was bad. It seemed like the older kids and adults around her had resigned to their fate, their expressions that of a broken person who has lost the will to fight back.

They heard shouting in a strange language followed by gunfire. The fear was so thick in the air they could cut it. The shooting sounded like a thunder from inside this metal box. We're they gonna die? It felt like it was going on forever. The fear of death was eventually replaced with hope that it would just end already. If they were gonna die then just happen already. The waiting was the worst part, at least if they died they wouldn't have to be in fear anymore.

Silence, followed by the sound of a dog barking. Some urgent shouts. Then the doors of the cargo container were opened. She had sit in the darkness for so long her eyes burned from the sunlight. She heard more of the voices in that strange language, calm and soothing. She felt someone grab her chains. As her eyes adjusted she saw a man in a police uniform use bolt cutters to free her. When he chains snapped she jumped him, hugging and crying, causing him to drop the tool. She didn't know if he could understand her and she didn't care, she kept saying thank you over and over. He lifted her up and carried her out, although she couldn't understand his language she knew the words he said to her were to calm her, telling her everything was gonna be all right.

As he carried her away from the crime scene she saw looked over his shoulders seeing several of the bad people being led to cop cars in handcuffs and some sheets covering some of them on the ground, blood staining the white fabric.

She was glad some of them were dead. They tore her family apart and were gonna do only god knows what to her. She hugged the cop more tightly. She didn't care who he was, as far as she was concerned he was her hero.

Chapter 1: A world Forever Changed
The city shook as two titans battled. Gorosaurus, a large, green skinned T-rex looking monster sniffed the air. Though he couldn't see his enemy he could smell him. A blow to the back of the head caused the monster to stagger forward. He whipped his tail at the enemy behind him only to connect with air. He spun around and snapped at the enemy he could not see but smell. He knew the enemy was there, he could feel the air move as the enemy dodged his bites. Gorosaurus jumped up, using his tail as a stand to lash out with his clawed feet.

The hit connected, sending the invisible enemy sliding back into a skyscraper with a smoke trail left behind, the building's side caved in. Gorosaurus ran to the building, slamming his head into the building. He lifted his head, spotting the footprints of his unseen enemy. Gorosaurus lunged landing where the footprints ended but made no contact. The monster looked around in confusion. Where did his enemy go? A sound reached it's ears like that of a live wire crackling.

Gorosaurus ducked, a ray of green energy flew over his head, smashing into a building in the distance, seemingly melting from the green ray. Gorosaurus stood up, seeing a green light fade from the direction the beam had come from. He saw the footprints and ran towards them, more footprints formed into the concert, running away from him. Gorosaurus chased after them, the footprints appearing on the side of a skyscraper, the building fell away, kicked away by the invisible creature that had ran up it. The ground behind Gorosaurs had exploded into a cloud of dust, concert and other debris.

The monster had realized too late what had happened. He had been baited into a trap, his enemy had ran up the building and jumped off behind him. Blood exploded from the monsters front and back, as he was lifted off the ground by an invisible force. A cut formed on his neck, blood spraying out into the streets below. Gorosaurus limp body floated higher up into the air. The falling blood partially outlined the unseen enemy below. It's body shape that of a large dinosaur like creature with a long serpentine tail, tipped with a curved blade, elbows with almost feather like blades, and back spikes or dorsal fins that curved upwards also like blades.

The image froze. The class room was silent as the new recruits stared at large screen. The gray haired man in the lab coat at the front desk spoke up. "Thanks to Godzilla's magnetic properties he is able to bend the light spectrum around his body, becoming completely invisible to the naked eye. The monster is very found of this ability for records show he will often use stealth or ambush attacks when facing a group of enemies or a single threat he feels he can kill in a short battle" the man said. "He often uses melee combat to cut down his opposition. We found several dinosaur carcass washed up on several islands before Godzilla's first attack but after some of the atomic weapons tests in the Pacific during 1954. We believe Godzilla may be a mutated member of this species."

He paused to see if his class was paying attention. He scratched the side of his face as he continued on "the monster started off as a living nuclear weapon but thanks to failed attempts to kill it with biological and chemical weapons it has in some cases feed off said weapon and become a living chemical and biological weapon as well. One such attack has forever augmented his Atomic Breath into Acid Atomic Breath, this green energy weapon was once purely a heat based radiation discharge but now it also produces massive amounts of acid and toxic chemical smoke or vapors that act like nerve gas."

A blond haired woman raised her hand. "Yes Linsy?" Asked the teacher. "Okay so he's a walking petry dish of nasty. Is that everything he can do or just all we know so far, Dr. Tizo?" Dr. Tizo thought for a moment before he continued "we honestly do not know the creatures limits, some theories have been thrown around that due to his magnetic property, Godzilla's body could act as a giant charged particle accelerator and create god particles to create even more devastating energy attacks that have not been seen before. As it stands now, the creature has shown it rather have fast up close combat before resorting to it's powers. And what we have seen it capable of in melee combat is frightening in of itself even not taking his powers into account. The creature is deceptively fast, even acrobatic despite it's size and mass, and smarter than any primate. Over the decades we have seen it teach itself new fighting methods and through trial and error create fighting styles similar to human and even alien martial arts."

The class stared at him in silence. "This is what you are fighting. Even worse, Godzilla is not the worst monster out there nor the strongest. His infamy exceeds him. Welcome to your first day at G-Force. Class dismiss."

Chapter 2: The Message
The two investigators walked through the room, looking for any clues. The taste of copper was in the air. The body of the deceased slumped over in the corner, blood smeared everywhere. One of them paused to look at the message written in blood on the wall closest to the body.

SHE WHO MAULS

The body was, for lack of a better term, torn apart like an animal had mauled it. Just like the message. The young woman with the long, wavy brown hair stared at the message with her blue eyes before declaring "I don't think this is a copy cat killer, Vega."

The young man with the short black hair and gray eyes looked at her. "You're sure, Veronica?" he asked. She pointed at the blood all around the room. "Positive, there's more blood in this room than should have been possible for this guy's body to hold. Either there's another victim whose body we've yet to find or his body was forced to produce more blood than it can hold" she said gesturing to the dead man slumped on the wall "and we only know one killer who can do that."

"Let's wait for forensics to see if all this blood is a match for him first before we jump to conclusions, we need to know she's actually back before we contact G-Force." Vega replied. She might be right. I hope to God she's wrong. I don't think we can catch a killer like this, he thought as a chill ran down his spine.

A week later...

Giant Praying mantis called Kamacuras stood in the city, but they were not here to eat but to fight. The swarm formed a circle around an enemy they could not see but knew was there. Suddenly several of them took to the sky, their wings beating. They flew in circles around their enemy, before they too turned invisible. It didn't make a difference. Gore and blood sprayed into the air as those Kamacuras turned visible again, their bodies flying into one direction, crashing into buildings, their heads falling in another direction, like they had been cut off by a giant sword.

The remaining Kamacuras looked around for any sign of where their enemy currently was. One of them goes stiff and them limp as a slit appear on it's neck, blood spraying upward before raining back to the ground. The silhouette of the monster called Godzilla appeared thanks to the blood covering it's body. The dead Kamacuras body leaning against his sword like elbow blade. Seeing his camouflage was blown the creature stopped manipulating the light around his body, turning back to fully visible to the naked eye.

The monster was the stuff of nightmares. It looked like a dinosaur but unlike any known to man, standing upright like a person, it had 3 rows of knife like spikes or dorsal plates on it's back that curved upwards towards the sky. The long tail ended in a bone blade curved downwards, the creatures elbows extended into sharp bone structures with many points and edges, they almost looked like wings. The creatures body was covered in powerful muscles, but not overtly so like a body builder, more jacked like Bruce Lee, the thing even had abs. If one looked hard enough they could see bones or organs through the muscles.

In fact the creatures entire skin was an opaque blue-gray, allowing light to pass through it, some patches of skin such as the head and chest were even transparent light blue-clear skin allowing the world to see his skull through his face, and the ribs, heart and lungs through his chest. As well as another organ that served a deadly purpose. Blood vessels could be seen all through out the creatures body thanks to it's skin's nature. But the worst thing was it's eyes. The eyes had black sclera and blood red iris that glowed either due to the creatures radiation or a form of bio-luminescence.

Godzilla let loose with a blood curdling roar challenging the remaining insects to fight him. Before they could respond the mysterious organ resting between Godzilla's stomach, heart and lungs began pumping. Godzilla's skin became transparent on all of his body while the blood vessels in Godzilla's body began to glow green, slowly spreading to the blood veins of his dorsal plates and the rest of his body. Soon he looked like a skinless Godzilla skeleton with organs hanging on it's bones, like a glow in the dark toy for anatomy class, while his blood red iris glowed ever brighter. Godzilla opened his mouth and fired Acid Atomic Breath. The glowing emerald green ray shooting out like a laser beam while green flames danced on the top and liquid acid vapors spread out as a fog to the sides and liquid dripped from the bottom.

The burning hybrid stream of radioactive plasma and liquid acid disintegrated the unlucky Kamacuras it made contact with, it's center mass being vaporized instantly while it's limbs that weren't immediately burned by the plasma caught on fire from contact with the strange glowing liquid acid, green fire consuming it. The building behind the Kamacuras melted away, the corrosive heat and liquid slowly spreading, also alight with green fire. The blast had traveled through the building leaving a large crater in the ground, the heat from the plasma having turn the sand into glowing molten glass while a pool of steaming bubbling acid rest at the bottom.

The Kamacuras near the victim had some of the acid droplets rain on them, their exoskeletons being discolored in places. Godzilla turned around and fired blood from the corner of his eyes like a giant horned lizard, the streams hitting one of the mantis right in the face, the creature in it's confusion flew away, covered in dripping blood. The other Kamacuras ran at the dinosaur monster. One of the giant mantis tried swapping him with it's large claws, Godzilla caught both before kneeing the creature in it's gut, stunning the insect. Godzilla twisted one of it's claws and punched right into it's elbow, breaking it's arm. The insect shrieked. Before Godzilla could do anything else the rest of the monsters dog piled on him, biting and scratching at the monster king.

The skin on his back between his rows of dorsal plates inflated before dispersing a green cloud of toxic chemical smoke. The bugs immediately backed off, falling to the ground their legs kicking at the air before slowing down, like they had just been sprayed by a giant can of bug spray, the only movement being their body spasms, before slowing into stillness. Godzilla, got up. Bleeding from the scratches and bites but otherwise unharmed. The mutant let out a thunderous roar of victory before turning his attention to the city and destroying what remained. The footage paused. Soon older footage was shown. It was Godzilla attacking a city but he looked much different, his skin was black and white, his breath was a white vapor like breath, his spines glowing with the white vapor, and the spines were shaped like maple leafs instead of curved blades, there were no bony blades extending from the elbows and the tail had no blade. He was also much smaller, nor did have the muscles from the newer footage. For all intents and purposes he looked more like a normal animal in this footage than the newer one.

Dr. Tizo looked at his class. It was the second day of teaching the new G-Force hopefuls about Godzilla before moving on to other monsters. "After Godzilla first appeared he has gone through several mutations. Some of these mutations were in result to attempts to kill him. Chemical weapons have changed his atomic breath to also produce acid. This acid is in a state between liquid and gas, we still do not know why it does not instantly burn away when it is in contact with the plasma of his ray."

He paused for a moment, "the adaptation to chemical weapons has also allowed it create a cloud of nerve gas like agent." Pics showed on the screen behind him, showing the dead bodies of humans and animals that had suffocated, foam at their mouths. "Because of this adaptation he started to attack chemical plants as well as nuclear plants, even as going so far as to find and consume a Nazi stockpile of nerve gas that had been missed by the U.N.. Things only got worse in the 60's when a terrorist organization called the Red Bamboo Army tried using weaponized diseases and viruses on him, left over stockpiles from the infamous Unit 731 from Japan's dark days in the second World War."

The screen behind him than showed pictures of the Kamacuras that had been shot with Godzilla's blood, boils and warts and rashes covered it's body, one side of it's head had swollen bigger than the other. The pictures changed now to people and animals that had similar conditions. "Godzilla's blood has several deadly viruses and diseases in it such as HIV, AIDS, Ebloa and many more, some never before seen. When people and animals come in contact with this blood it's 100% fatality rate. The most we can do is put them down."

The images on the screen switch back to the battleground but today. "It's been 20 years since his battle with the Kamacuras and there are still pools of acid, much of that area of the city has been fenced off. It is easily one of his most devastating attacks."

The picture switch to a golden 3 headed dragon like alien known as King Ghidorah. The pic on the left had text saying "Before Acid Atomic Breath", showing it in it's beautiful golden luster, the pic on the right said "After Acid Atomic Breath" showing many scales had shriveled up, fallen off or turned black.

"That should finish our lesson on Godzilla. Tomorrow we shall talk about Rodan and how to fight him." The class all got up to leave when one student asked "Dr. Tizo, which chemical weapon had he adapted to?". All the other students stopped. One even spoke up and said "yeah you said he got his nuclear powers from atomic tests and his biological weapons from man made viruses. But you skipped out on what chemical weapon."

Dr. Tizo was silent for a moment. He was honestly glad they had asked the question, he'd get in less trouble with the brass now that he wasn't telling them this unprovoked. "Are any of you familiar with a man named Daisuke Serizawa?" His student stared at him like he was an idiot. Who could not know Dr. Serizawa? The man had single handedly killed the first Godzilla with a new weapon he had created from a new energy source he discovered by accident when testing chemical reactions to oxygen, he also killed himself to make sure said new energy could never be misused by humanity ever again, even destroying his blue prints.

"We thought he had saved the world, and killed Godzilla. He did. For a year. Slowly, over the years Godzilla's cells had survived and multiplied. A year later he came back stronger, heavily mutated."

"Professor, are you saying he fed off the Oxygen Destroyer?" asked a student.

Dr. Tizo looked at his student "Not at first, had we had a bit more time the last cells would have died and that would have been the end of Godzilla. However, he eventually became immune to it, worse he started feeding off of it and used it as fuel to grow a new body as well as gained new powers such as his augmented Atomic Breath."

He took his glasses off "Godzilla is now powered not only by nuclear weapons but also by the Oxygen Destroyer, the one weapon many people consider far worse than any atom bomb or dirty bomb ever made by man."

The dread in the room was deep. Students who were not a moment ago were ready to leave seemed to have forgotten their rush. There was a knock on the door frame as the secretary walked in. "Excuse me Dr, there are two detectives here to speak with you, they're in your office."

"Yes, thank you, I'll be there shortly" he said to the young lady as she bowed and left. Dr. Tizo left as did the students. Dr. Tizo was wondering why law enforcement was bothering him. Probably another G-Force troop being charged with a DUI. He thought about how messed up the world he was living in when he hoped that was the worst reason for why they were here.

Chapter 3: Before Whom Evil Trembles
G-Force U.S.A., Washington D.C. H.Q., Dr. Tizo's office

"I must confess I'm confused why the branch has me talking with you two, murder is monstrous but hardly kaiju related", said the older man. Veronica pulled out the crime scene photos, putting them on the doctors desk before saying "normally we'd agree but there was an incident in Detroit, we think she might be back." Dr.Tizo stared at the photos before asking "Sekhmet? You're absolutely sure shes back?" "Positive" said Vega, "our boys in the lab confirmed all the blood was the victim's. The victim is, or rather I should say, was a 14 year old street thug involved in gang violence, selling drugs and human trafficking. We all know how much she hates the latter."

"What kind of human trafficking?" asked Dr.Tizo. "Organ harvesting" responded Veronica, "he'd lure other kids to a secluded area where the older members would kill them. It's not her usual target but we know she can't ignore such callous crimes when she stumbles upon them. She found the rest of his gang and killed them off."

More pictures were dropped on his desk, of various crime scenes. Bodies of gang members lay mutilated, limbs and heads torn off, some were burnt to a crisp or had their stomachs cut open, their entrails falling out. Some of them looked like they had been cut open cleanly by a sword or scythe while others looked to be torn apart by claws and teeth.

"We also have a witness, a 12 year old boy they were gonna cut open before she showed up, saving him." said Vega. "Did he get a good look at her?" asked Dr. Tizo. Vega responded with "no, she was wearing a cloak that obscured most of her face." "Of course" Tizo quipped. Vega continued "we know it was a she because he heard her screaming like a mad-woman, as she tore them up, he also swears he saw her form weapons from nowhere."

"So do you have a suspect?" was Tizo's next question. "Currently no" Veronica responded with, "but the brass suspects she might be military or former military. That's all we really know. We were sent to to talk to you and several other kaijuologist who are or were in G-Force, to see if any of you suspect someone you know might be Sekhmet."

"I've been a Maser Gunner in G-Force for 20 years, and a teacher for the future generations for even longer. I could make a mile long list of students I had who would probably kill some human traffickers if they could. But I can't think of any who might be someone who can turn into a giant blood monster on the whim" stated the professor.

"So this is another dead end" said Vega sighing in frustration. "I didn't say that, detectives" retorted the older man. The two detectives looked at each other before looking back at Tizo. Finally maybe they'd get somewhere! "I think your brass is on the right track about her background, but they need to start thinking like her and maybe learn more about their mythologies. Sekhmet was thought to be a myth along with all the other Egyptian Gods, then she shows up as real as you and I about 15 years ago. She hates rapists and yet why hasn't she been on a rampage before hand? Shouldn't she have always been active, a fact of life we just grew up with like tornadoes?" asked Dr. Tizo.

"Maybe she goes long periods of time sleeping or hibernating, even Godzilla doesn't attack every day" offered Veronica. "Very possible, it's also possible that she possesses a host. It doesn't take much motivation to hate rapists but with her it's almost personal, maybe the host was a victim of sexual assault or knew someone who was and only got access to this power recently" he finished. "So what, some blood goddess from ancient Egypt infects someone like a vampire curse or a ghost?" replied Vega. "How does this theory help us?"

Dr. Tizo smirked, "I have a former student I think can help, she's an archeologist who specializes in the studies of Egyptian myths. She also uses her wealth to run an organization to help recovering victims of sex abuse. If anyone is gonna know how Sekhmet thinks it's probably her." "Who is this woman?" asked Vega.

"Does the name Scarlet Elizabeth Rose ring a bell?" asked the professor. "That's a hell of a name, almost sounds fake" Vega chuckled. Then he stopped. "Wait you mean the former super model?" "The very same" responded Dr. Tizo. "I never knew she was a part of G-Force" said Vega. "Me either" said veronica. Dr. Tizo laughed "yes, Scarlet is very humble about her time in the service, I was her commending officer at the time, she saved my life, literally pulled me out of the fires of my Maser Tank as it burned after a failed attack on Godzilla."

Chapter 4: Desperate For Any Leads
"So where can we find Scarlet?" said Veronica. "In Detroit" said Dr.Tizo. "Oh Christ! We just came from there!" yelled Veronica raking her hair with her hands in frustration. Tizo laughed, "I can make a call, ask if she's available to fly down her this week" he offered. Vega shook his head and responded with "can't do, all persons of interest are to be assumed a suspect, we have orders to talk to anyone who might know something without giving them a heads up we are coming." Veronica continued for him "it's pointless but the brass thinks we'll magically get the murderer to slip up and say something incriminating if we talk to them unannounced."

The older man did not look happy "hold on now, I know Scarlet and she can be...passionate about what she believes is right or wrong but I highly doubt she's some serial killer. The woman does charity work for the abused and homeless for crying out loud!"

The two detectives stared at the older man for a bit before Veronica finally said "please professor, we mean no offense, we are just doing our jobs. I doubt a former model is some shape shifting god too, and if she's as helpful as you think she may be then she might be able to put an end to this investigation, but till then I must insist you don't tell her we are coming. If you do we'll have no choice but to charge you with interfering with said investigation."

"All right. I don't like it but I think she'd be more upset with me getting arrested then a surprise visit" as he wrote something down on a piece of paper before handing it to them. "That's her location and company name, well the one in Detroit at least. I've lost count of how many companies she's made or bought over the years."

"Thank you, we'll see you back here in a few days if something comes up" said Veronica as they got up to leave. "One more thing Dr. Tizo. Why did Scarlet get so involved with this fight against human trafficking?" asked Vega. "Do you need a reason? Most people would find such a crime so awful that is all they need to hate the ones who commit it" said Tizo. "Maybe so but a lot of people aren't motivated enough to help the survivors till it happens to someone they knew and I've met enough rich & powerful individuals and families to know not everyone is as generous as you say this Scarlet is" countered Vega. "It's...personal. Very personal, and I will not discuss it for it is not my place. The only one who has a right to say is Scarlet herself, if she feels willing" replied Tizo. There was nothing else to say, his tone made it clear the questions were over. As the detectives left they passed by a young woman in G-Force uniform as she walked into Tizo's office. "Professor, are you busy?" she asked. "Not at all Linsy, please close the door and come in."

A few days later...

Michigan, Detroit, Rose Inc. building

They sat in the waiting room listening to the muffled voices on the other side of the large wooden double doors. It sounded like a heated debate was becoming a heated argument as the voices were raising in volume with the passing moments. They had been back for 3 days and hardly had time to rest. On the flight back they pulled up all the current employees at Rose Inc. and tried to match their names to anyone in the international criminal database. It seemed like it was gonna be a waste of time, nothing substantial, mostly petty things like parking tickets when to their surprise they got a hit. Several in fact. At least 10 people who had been at one point suspected in a Sekhmet murder before having the charges against them dropped. At least 7 women and 3 men.

"- DON'T WANNA ---R ANOTHER WORD ABOUT --IS!"
"-OULD HELP COUNTLESS ---PLE!"

Veronica and Vega could only make out some of it, the doors were thick enough to block out most of the arguing, so they had to be really yelling now for them to hear some of this. The receptionist smiled nervously at them before offering them coffee in a vain attempt to make the moment less awkward. They turned down the offer. The two detectives had spent their first night back breaking and entering into these suspects houses looking for evidence. It wasn't strictly legal since they didn't have have a warrant but the brass was getting so desperate to catch this killer as soon as possible they told them to hell with the protocol, off the record of course. Not even a day to recover from travel fatigue and they had to risk being shot or caught while trespassing. They pretty much found nothing, a waste of time.

"--'RE NOT TRYING TO DRAG -ER NAME THROUGH TH- MUD!"
"YES YOU ARE!"

It was really hard to make out what they were saying, one was a younger lady about their age from the sounds of it, the other voice also belonged to a woman but much older. They could get pieces but not enough to fill the blanks.

"SCARLET PLEA-- THIS COULD -ELP OUT M--Y ---STITUTES LIKE YOUR -ISTER!"

CRASH!

All three looked at the door, "excuse me" the receptionist said before she got up and open the double wooden doors and quickly closed them behind her as she enter the room, but they had been open long enough for the two to clearly hear the end of the argument.

"-WAS NOT A WHORE! GOD DAMN IT! YOU GET THAT THROUGH YOU DAMN SKULL! GET OUT BEFORE I CALL SECURITY YOU SKANK!"

There was silence before an older woman walked out flanked by two large men in suits & ties. The two detectives had to do a double take to make sure they weren't seeing things. She was wearing a fur coat, and as she moved it would open enough to show that she was wearing some revealing lingerie under it. Who the hell was this woman and why the hell was she dressed like a stereotypical madam of brothel? It was almost cartoonish, and they wouldn't have believe it if they weren't seeing it with their own eyes.

Her bodyguards were not as good at concealing their firearms as they thought, Vega could vaguely make out gun holsters on these men. Whoever this woman was he had a feeling she was bad news. They called the elevator and stepped in. As soon as the doors closed the two detectives got to work. Veronica pressed her ears against the wood doors and listen while Vega got behind the desk, looking through the filing cabinet, desperately looking for the names of their suspects.

"What are they saying?" asked Vega. "I don't know, I can barely hear them" said Veronica. "Oh shit they're on their way, hurry up! Hurry up!" panicked Veronica. Vega managed to find the last file he was looking for and stuffed it into his suit before closing the cabinet, the two ran back to their seats and sat down, trying desperately to look like they hadn't just been snooping around and stolen some files.

The wooden doors open and the receptionist stepped out. "Detectives, I'm sorry about that. Ms. Rose will see you now" said the receptionist before she turned around and walked back to her desk duties. The two got up from their seats, walked to the doors, grabbed the handles and walked in.

Chapter 5: Scarlet

The detectives didn't know what to expect when they went into Scarlet's office but it wasn't to be staring at a lion! My god, who is this woman? thought Veronica. Vega was thinking the same thing. As they stared at the big cat sitting next to the desk they realized it wasn't a lion, not fully. The fur color was that of a lion but it had markings of a tiger. It had to be a liger or Tigon, a lion-tiger hybrid. "Don't worry, he won't bite. He's a very well behaved boy" came the voice a woman from the chair behind the desk. She had her back to them but they could see her reflection. The liger was massive,it was sitting down and still taller than the detectives standing up.

After a moment longer of staring they decided the woman was telling the truth, the liger seemed to have lost interest in them and was yawning while looking at the sharks swimming by in a large fish tank to it's left. The detectives looked around the room as they walked towards the desk on the other side, finally able to take in the extravagance of the room after getting over their initial fright. The room was huge, plush red carpet covered the floor, book shelves lined the walls, display cases sat at various places in the rooms, gold ceremonial daggers, gold cat and scarab statues, various types of jewelry sat in the display cases. There were things from several ancient civilizations but they recognized the majority of various items as ancient Egyptian artifacts. To say she was rich would be an understatement.

As they approached the desk the chair spun around, coming face to face with the woman known as Scarlet. She had dark caramel skin, green eyes and short black hair done in a bob cut. She wore a blue business suit and a dog collar or choker on her neck with a tag and a bell. Sitting in her lap was another exotic cat, it looked like a house cat at first glance but it's size, facial markings and the long bushy, almost feather like tuffs of hair extending off the ears gave away that this was a caracal. The woman in the chair stopped petting the cat, letting it jump onto her desk.

"Ms. Rose?" asked Vega. "Please, there's no need to be so formal. You can call me Scarlet" she said as she stood up to shake their hands. "I'm detective Vega and this is my partner Detective Veronica" he said. Vega swore her smile faltered and she looked at him with something looking like sorrow in her eyes as she shook his hand, but only for the briefest of seconds. Then the moment was gone in a blink of an eye, he wasn't even sure if it did happen or if it was just his imagination. All this traveling was exhausting, his mind is starting play tricks on him. "Very handsome and beautiful detectives at that" smirked Scarlet with a raised eyebrow, causing the detectives to chuckle.

The truth was the detectives felt awkward having her call them attractive. It wasn't like they thought they were plain but Scarlet was probably one of the most attractive people they have met. Not just attractive, there was something about her they couldn't put into words words to explain, almost like the air itself was sexulaized just by her being in the same room as them like a....sex god?

Easy there sparky. This woman got rich and powerful by climbing up the corporate world, she didn't get where she was just by looks thought Vega.

"Please have a seat. Would you like anything to drink?" she asked. "No thanks" said Vega, "me either" said Veronica as they sat down. "You sure? No snacks? Maybe some stolen papers?" responded Scarlet with a coy, almost predatory smile. "I..what?" said Veronica, stunned. OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT SHE KNOWS! Vega's mind raced at a million miles per second. How does she know? How CAN she know?

"I know you two have been sneaking into my employees houses" continued Scarlet. The smile turned into a predatory scowl before she next spoke, her gaze as intense as a cat about to eat a bird. "Without permits."

The detectives stared at her bug eyed, the silence seeming to go on forever. "I've talked to my employees and I've convinced them not to press charges. Don't do it again. Am I understood?" asked Scarlet. The detectives slowly nodded their heads. "Good" she said, a smile returned to her face. There was no malice behind it, it was as sincere as a child's.

Working as detectives you meet all sorts of characters but Scarlet was something else. The detectives were sent to investigate her and her organization but in their first meeting she'd already humiliated them and made them feel like children who were in the wrong. They felt like they were in one of those cheesy detective movies with the femme fatale in their office, or her office in this case. From the moment they entered this room they felt like she was the one in control.

Paranoid, much? thought Veronica. She runs multi-billion dollar industries, she's probably had to deal with corporate spies before. "Now, what is this about?" asked Scarlet. "I know detectives wouldn't be spying on my employees or drinking tea with me for shits and giggles."

"We have reason to believe Sekhmet is back. Dr. Tizo suggested you, said you would know she thinks" answered Veronica. "I'm a suspect" said Scarlet. "That's not true" countered Veronica quickly. Scarlet smiled before waving her hand dismissively as if shooing a fly away, "no need to lie. I'd suspect me too, considering my...history. Tell me how is Dr. Tizo doing? I haven't seen him in such a long time."

"He's teaching at G-Force in the capital. He thinks very highly of you" Veronica said. "He always did" chuckled Scarlet. "I'm sorry Scarlet but you said you're not surprised you're a suspect because of your background. What did you mean by that?" asked Vega.

Scarlet was silent for a moment, her mood changing to a somber one.

"My entire family was sold into slavery, as was I."
