Kaiju and Kaijin (Reboot)

Post by DinoMaster »

For much of the 20th and 21st Century, mankind has fought for dominance on this planet. Powerful beasts from the earth's past, created by their own hand, or lured from space called kaiju have plagued destruction and mayhem among the many cities of the world. Neither have been able to agree with each other, with only a few, tentative moments of peace between a select few kaiju. The rest are at best pests, at worst harbringers of doom and destruction. There was thought to never be change, until one would eliminate the other.

No one could have predicted that kaijin would have occurred.

In the early months of 2017, a series of events led to a startling discovery. One of mankind's most feared kaiju rose from the Bay of San Fransciso suddenly, out of the blue without warning, and headed straight for downtown. Broadcasted live over the the entire world, it stopped at the beckon of a small, 6 year old girl. It was found, via moving the two out from the city, that the beast actually listened to her, and worked it's way into the city to save her from a percieved threat. The media dubbed her a kaijin, one that had the ability to commune with a gigantic beast of power. It wasn't hard to accept it, with the Shobijin and Mothra being in the public's eye before, along with Gamera's bond to a single woman.

It didn't take long for more to start appearing. Although their numbers are small now, they pose the chances to change the world for better or worse.

Running. It was always running for kaijin that didn’t want to be involved in law business, or committed crimes. Not that Christie could blame anyone for doing so. When one controlled the likes of a beast of immeasurable power, it wasn’t an uncommon fact of life that you either aligned yourself somewhere, or stayed on the move. There was no mercy for this one that she pursued however. There were always those that chose to do things immoral, the ones that had no use for the laws or the safety of others. Christine Stone had little room to talk about that, but when her bosses had given her a lead, there was little that would stop her. Even here in Miami, where the sun was always hot and the crime thick, she had a goal, a target to hunt down and get the information of what she wanted.

She ran after her target, who quickly clambered over a piece of rubble in an attempt to distract his pursuer. Christie had no problems with it however, quickly clambering over it and leaping after the target. She ignored the clouds of smoke that came from the fires, nor the screams of people a ways away trying to escape the chaos. Her mind was soley focused on the one in front of her, who seemed to move with the winds of a typhoon behind him. Always a step ahead of her, he had finished climbing a chain linked fence in an alley as she turned the corner. Military training kicked in, and she was able to clamber up it and quickly catch up to him stuck in an alley. Fists clinching she glared at the man who faced away from her, and didn’t change as he turned around.

“Hello Hurricane. It’s been awhile.”

“Hurricane” Higuchi gave a sheepish smile and a shrug, seeming to be causal about the entire scene. From his dark sunglasses and the Hawaiian shirt he wore, one could almost be surprised that this man was the famed Yakuza hitman of the same name. But when on vacation, one didn’t want to show themselves as the famed assassin. Raising his hands up, he spoke slowly but methodically.

“Ah. Agent Stone. What a surprise, meeting you here. I wasn’t expecting company.”

She snorted, pulling the gun from her hip and leveled it at his head. “I’m not here to play games Higuchi. And it’s just Stone.”

The man gave a laugh, and shrugged his shoulders. “That’s right, isn’t it? Retired, and tried to have a family last I heard. And yet, here we are, just like old times. What happened Stone? Got bored? Husband leave you for someone with less tramautic stress? Or was it taken from you like everything else?”

With each insult, the rage in Christie’s chest rose with larger and larger amounts of rage. How dare this piece of criminal filth even mention her husband, lost to a storm of bullets? How dare he mention everything being taken from her, as if he knew her loss of her child. He couldn’t ever know the pain of losing everything like her. She whipped the gun up, aiming it at the man’s chest and cocking it back in ready to fire. His arms went stiff, but the smile never left the sunglassed face. In fact, he let out a small chuckle, earning confusion from the one who had held him at gunpoint.

“You are so easy to read Stone. It’s not hard to figure it out. And what are you going to do with that? Mine’s a bit bigger than yours.”

Almost as on cue, the building behind Hurricane was torn from it’s foundation away, crumbling into another a few blocks from where it had been thrown. Towering above both of them, with the reddish hide covered in bumps that gleamed in the setting sun’s sky, a roar echoed out. With the orange fins that seemed to blend into the similarly color skies, the kaiju known as Titanosaurus made its presence known. It glared down towards them, focusing its anger towards her. Christie however, didn’t even flinch at its appearance, and retained her glare at Higuchi.

“Did you think I didn’t have a plan for your destroyer? Then you’re a fool Hurricane.”

A large hand swung around, claws slamming into and slicing marks into Titanosaurus’s snout, elicting a cry from the gigantic dinosaur. The trumpeting cry was deafened out by a louder, more baritone cry, followed by a massive shove as Ogra slammed her mass into the beast. Standing over the exposed hole among the buildings and the small humans, her ears flapped as another roar came out from her massive jaws. Recovering from the blow, Titanosaurus turned to face the new attacker, and screamed a roar of rage. The two quickly clashed, barreling down the street in a battle not seen on the earth in millions of years. Claws slashed, teeth gnashed, and the street beneath their feet trembled beneath their weight.

In the distraction of Ogra, Christie was able to land a good pistol whip to Hurricane’s face, sending him stumbling backwards. She took the opportunity to land in a few elbows to the back, and a swift knee to the gut, sending the man stumbling back. Preparing, she quickly spun to land a roundhouse kick, only to find him prepared with a block of his forearm. He spun her away, and quickly reached beneath the edge of his shirt and pulled out a knife. He swiped with precision at Christine, who’s training kicked in. She dodged the swipes, landing blows to the abdomen. He took them like a champ, and a swipe grazed into her side drawing blood.

Claw swipe was bet blow by blow for both foes, their strength near equal to each other. While kaiju scientists and paleontologists had theorized that the two were different genera in the same family, the battle here could prove it. While Titanosaurus towered in height over Ogra, the armored back and more massive arms gave her an advantage. In frustration, Titanosaurus bit down on the armored back of Ogra, earning a cry in surprise. Craning his neck up and spinning, he lifted the mother kaiju up into the air, and had her land in the body of a skyscraper. Her cry of surprise was soon muffled beneath the collapsing building, creating a large cloud of dust in the air as she fell out of sight.
Taking the time to give a triumphant roar, Titanosaurus stood tall over the city, proud of what he had been able to accomplish. An ancient rival defeated, his bonded human’s enemy dealt with. While his cousins were peaceful, this beast had learned to desire combat as it came to him. It was now a thrill to fight off ancient foes and mutated monstrosities, a thrill ride per say. Stomping towards the crater of a building, Titanosaurus tried to discern the body of his rival from the now quite large ruin of dust, rubble, and smoke. Something was off, and the red hued dinosaur could feel it. It was no way that if the best survived, it wasn’t luring him into a trap.

Gorgo leaped out from the rubble, jaws open wide and the claws outstretched. The landed on target, grasping the throat of Titanosaurus and sinking her claws into the shoulders of the dinosaur. Titanosaurus gurgled in surprise, any normal cry trapped beneath the jaws of an angry mother. Pushing down with each step, Ogra began to walk back towards where her human had been previously, with the contained monster proof of being a good backup buddy. Plus, if it died, then she wouldn’t feel much regret against that happening.

Wincing in pain at first, it only served to add to her rage that grew within her. While Hurricane smiled smugly at her for the blow, he received a swift blow to the face for it. The sound of cartilage and bone in it crunching under the pressure gave Christine an exciting thrill, encouraging her to land several more blows towards the face, along with a few sucker punches to the gut in rapid succession. The blows were coming too fast for Hurricane, and thoughts began to race for a way to stop her. His eye caught a stray rolling pin, something that must’ve fallen out from inside one of the buildings. Quickly scrabbling for it, he was able to take a swing, colliding against her side and sending her staggering back.

Not one to waste an opportunity, Higuchi ran for it, going through a newly opened pass. As she tried to recover and resume her chase from the surprisingly strong blow of the pin, rubble crashed down in front of her as the body of Titanosaurus was dropped down by Ogra. Christine swore, choosing to back off than vainly try to chase after the man. Better to take a step back and heal from the pain rather than fall to a recovering monster. She’d find him again, there was no doubt about that.

Her suspsicon of the prone Titanosaurus was warranted, as the eyes of the orange monster snapped open, and the beast stood back up to the surprise of Ogra. The shock allowed for Titanosaurus to lash out, slashing at the more vulnerable chest. Claws drew blood, earning a pained shriek from the green reptilian creature, and the mother retreated a few steps. This opening was what her foe had been waiting for however, to relay the ultimate attack that he could without the beams and shiny bits of other kaiju.

Turning his back towards Ogra, the top part of his tail opened upwards, revealing a large fan like structure. This allowed for excelled pursuit in water, making his species the more fast and nimble of ocean hunting monsters compared to the more heavily armored variety that Ogra was. While paleontologists could only theorize, it was the current thought that the introduction of Titanosaurids led to the declination of Marityrants overall. And yet, even on dry land like this, the tail fan gave another form of assistance. Waving it back and forth, winds began to billow outwards at high speeds. They smashed through the damaged city, smashing buildings in the wake of their build.

Ogra only barely was able to grab a foothold before the winds slammed into her, their buffering strength doing little more than to distract and annoy her. When the fire from the nearby buildings roared towards her, the massive hands covered her face from the heat that was brought in wisps towards her. When the hands began to lower, a boat that had been swept out from its private dock and into her newly exposed face, earning a cry of surprise. It splintered, forcing her to brush it away as the winds continued to throw things her way. Surprised cries were quickly replaced with rage filled ones however, and she began to advance. It was slow at first, only a single step at a time that threatened to send her barreling back with the wind’s strength. But it soon became steady, and she was soon upon the rival saurian. Not even attempting to deal with the swiping tail, the mother dinosaur instead aimed for the back of the head for a final blow to stop all of this.

It landed luckily enough, earning a cry of surprise from Titanosaurus as he was forced forward. After the blow, something seemed to change in the demeanor of the beast. Instead of retaliating against the attacking monster, it began to run for the nearby water. Ogra’s armor was her worst foe, and it only slowed the advance of any attempt of pursuit. Instead, she chose to let the ancient rival retreat back beneath the waves, making sure that the orange fins sank as the sun did. Inhaling briefly, the female monster let out a screaming roar in victory. Once finished, she glanced back to try to see the human again with no luck. Not that she worried. When the time came, the human knew how to contact her. Ogra followed her enemy out towards open waters, slowly stomping her way beneath the waters. The last that the people of Miami saw of Ogra was the back of her head and the waggling ears as they sunk beneath the waters lit by starlight.

Christine had escaped the blasting winds of Titanosaurus’s attack, and watched her bonded beast retreat back to the water. She whispered out, to Ogra, to herself, to no one in particular an apology. It held a pain that had never left her, one that both she and the monster shared in equal parts. Friends were made in times of pain, and those bonds could be tighter than most.

“I’m sorry. They weren’t here. We’ll find them soon, I promise.”

Limping towards the last place she had seen crowds of people running, Christine began to navigate her way back towards the rest of humanity. They were still relatively easy to follow, as they had gone down pretty wide roads to flee the enormous clash of monsters. As she walked past empty shops and abandoned bicycles, a van suddenly pulled around the corner, coming quickly towards her. She steeled herself, knowing of the stories of what kind of atrocities that could occur during a disaster like this. It did pull up next to her, and when the doors opened she was tense and as ready as she could be. What she was not expecting to see however, was a familiar face. Dark brown hair, a muscular build, the simple logo stamped on the middle of the beanie, and the red eyes were almost a dead giveaway, though she was surprised to see him of all people here. Giving a half smile, he spoke out to her.

“It’s been a hell of a long time Christie. Seems like you’ve been busy. Come on, we’ve got work to do.”

The lone highway was quiet at night, with the thrum of the engine being the only real noise that Kelly heard while driving along. There was little in external lighting, as it was a freeway north towards New York and all. But with the crisp air after a thunderstorm billowing in with the windows down, it was almost paradise. Her general countenance however, etched the boredom that she felt. While it was a gorgeous night, driving on the roads alone did become tedious over time. Her headlights illuminated a sign indicating a rest stop ahead. With almost nothing but mountains and stars being her nearest signs of civilization, it was worth the potential risks. What else would someone do in the same situation?

The ’69 Black Charger followed the swaying path off towards the surprisingly well lit rest stop, pulling into the nearly empty station. Putting the stick into neutral, she pulled the keys out of the ignition and made sure the lights were off. Before getting out of the car, her attention shifted to the bobble head that rested on the dash. One of the few things that wasn’t an original part of the car, the Baragon plastic figurine gave its cheesy smile at her. Pulling on the horn gently, she let the head snap back and forth as the door opened and she clambered out. Inserting the key in to lock the door, she turned her back on her baby to focus on the building ahead of her.

It wasn’t a terribly interesting building, squat in structure and designed more for a bathroom break and a pit stop at the vending machines. She stretched, far more interested in getting out for a little while and moving her legs than the non-descript building. Once the ache left her legs enough that she wouldn’t walk funny, she made her way into the building’s main lobby. It was fairly nondescript, with bathrooms on the sides of the lobby, and a small hallway to her left that seemed to hold the vending machines. She went towards the shelves full of travel pamphlet instead however, perusing the different things to stop and look at. Several caught her attention, from zoos and caves to outdoor explorations. The image of a rose however, was the one that stood out to her the most. Picking it up, she read the inside with some interest out loud to herself.

“RoseWater’s Gardens and Emporium. Known for the Spring Rose Festival. Seems like a fun little event to go visit. Looks like the times here are saying this weekend too. Oddly convenient.”
Her stomach growled, snapping her back to reality from the inside of the pamphlet. Folding it back into the position she pulled it out of, and walked towards the small hallway that she had seen before. The lights of the machines glowed out around her, showing a variety of sodas, snacks, and treats all available if you had the cash. Luckily, Kelly had the money for a drink and a snack without any worry. It wasn’t a hard choice to pick out a Coke, and in a few quick seconds the bottle was in her hand. The hard part though, was selecting a snack. There she stood, eyeballing all the options that were available to her. Chips sat beneath pre-baked breakfast goods, candy bars held rows below, and all sorts of other confectionaries were her choice for the taking. The bag of Combos caught her attention though, and the sounds her stomach made almost sounded like the roars of a monster at the thought of the food.

The sounds of footsteps echoed out from the direction of the restrooms broke her attention from the delicious snack. Her mind flicked to the only other parked vehicle out there, a large van, and she calmed herself. It was only that other person, probably stopping to take a piss on a long drive with little stops in between the major cities. When the mysterious stranger turned the corner towards her, Kelly was surprised that the other person was a woman, even if strangely dressed. Most people who were at truck stops at 11:00 at night were not the ones that wore business suits. Sure, there were the blue tips that gave away the oddity, but still.

The two glanced at each other, and for a moment everything fell away. There was no rest stop, no highway, no mountains, not even them. Kelly knew what she was, with that bitter taste of iron in her mouth. She didn’t need to see the back spines, the glow of her head, or the massive claws to recognize her monster Demaaga. No, she knew that feeling of rage inside her. The city she stood in didn’t have any recognizable features, as most were burning rubble and smoken crater. The monster that stood across from her however, was the stranger. Some sort of massive reptile towered, the lower half looking standard for a kaiju. The tiny arms, large frog like head, bull horns, and spiky back changed most of that however. It roared at her, before a black shadow extended out from behind the smoke cloud and smacked the monster away from her. She attempted to retaliate, but only saw bright blue light. There was only a second’s time to raise her arms as it shot out towards her.

Snapping out of the premonition, Kelly shook her head and attempted to calm the trembling in her arms. The premonitions were always hard, and she needed to get out of there. Quickly grabbing the now dropped bag of Combos, she turned away from the woman and quickly walked out of the rest stop. The cool air of night had wafted into the mountains, which helped her calm the nerves some. Unlocking the car, she shoved the drink into the cup holder, threw the bag of Combos into the passenger seat, and buckled up. The muscle car quickly pulled out and back onto the highway, windows down to let in the cool breeze as Kelly did as she always had: moved on to the next place.

Somewhere in the Rockies, 7 PM MST

A screen sat, playing a news bulletin of the sudden appearance and battle between Ogra and Titanosaurus in the heart of Miami. The person sitting in front of it watched the news lady with vague interest, and would snap to attention when the monsters appeared on the screen. A smile grew as more carnage and the damage wrecked by the city was aired, giving the man an eerie appearance. Reaching into the drawer of the desk, the stranger pulled out a box. Flipping open the lid, he withdrew a cigar and lit it with a snap of his fingers. Taking a puff on the cigar, he gave a small chuckle and pressed a button on the desk.

“Dory, would ya do me a favor doll? I want ya to designate a few agents, lower end folk of course, and find the man that made this Titanosaurus to rise. I think I got a proposition he won’t refuse.”

“Of course sir,” the polite voice on the other side replied, followed by the scratching of pen on paper. Her voice spoke up again, being louder than the small monitor on the desk in front of the man. “Your appointment is here as well sir.”

“Let ‘er in then. Ain’t no reason t’ keep her waitin.”

The doors across from the man opened up, with his secretary leading in a woman before shutting the door behind her. The man stared with a smile at the sight of the red eyes and the stringy white hair that stared back at him with a toothy grin that reminisced of his own. He waved a hand, ushering her closer while he spoke.

“Ah Rachel, one of the few who takes things as far as I do, and then to another step no? And look, you even got into that rag that they call a uniform. Was that just fer me, or are ya backin down from yer normal look at their request?”

“Like I’d even listen to those pigs,” was her response, giving a small snort as she did. This earned a grin from the man at the desk, replying back.

“Good. Last thing I need is fer ya t’ lose your edge. I got a special assignment for ya. Not the higher end stuff that yer used t’, but the last three complaints I got from yer reports that there were not enough times t’ eat. Well, I do read ‘em, and this one should be an easy feast fer ya. The most resistance should only be a few lowly cops, and you can handle that.”

A grin dawned the lips of Rachel, who gave a small giggle. Looking over the details, she only asked a single question to the one person in the universe she feared.

“This seems a bit out of the blue boss. If you don’t mind me asking, why the sudden activity after all the laying low?”

The man swiveled to look out the windows of the back office, gesturing with the cigar out towards the monolithic mass of flesh that sat in an inactive state just outside of the window.

“He and I were talkin, and there’s something brewing on the wind. It’s time for us to come out of the shadows and show our faces. To make sure the world remembers and fears us still. That they still know, that no matter what they try t’ do, we’ll always be there. It’s time for Les Bêtes de la Mortis to make the world fear monsters once again.”
