The Drog War - Official Discussion

Post by M.U.T.O. »

Hello, and welcome to the discussion page for The Drog War! Inspired by EdGojira, written by GTK and M.U.T.O. with Saansilt!

This is a collaborative story, so credit is spread evenly. The other two members may post successive chapters in the main story thread in case one of us doesn't finish.

The story takes place in the 1960s. Kennedy is still president, the Cuban Missile Crisis has just happened, and ex-Nazi scientists are under the employ of the U.S. Government. Agents Lars Hunter (written by Saansilt) and Trevor Kingston (written by GTK) work for the government, and are tasked to retrieve Dr. Hans Wälder (written by M.U.T.O.), who resides in Raven's Thread (the same town which was featured in The Return of Saansilt) to help them face a new enemy, one more mysterious and repulsive than the Reds.

We all hope you enjoy The Drog War. Leave comments and whatnot here!

That was quite the opening. I loved the whole atmosphere of the chapter with it being all dark and rainy. Very good along with the character interactions.

Also, never thought to see Muto as a former Nazi. :P

Glad to see this was a great chapter and I would love to see more. Keep up the good work guys.

It was fun writing this first chapter, a lot of dialogue was just me and MUTO going back and forth. Creating a very natural tone.

Oh by the way, here is how you know who's perspective it is in, at the start of each chapter there will be a little letter.

K = Trevor Kingston
W = Dr. Hans Wälder
H = Lars Hunter

If there was ever a story that made me wish I knew German... :dizzy:

Anyway, this is a pretty interesting story, if I do say so meself. Definitely feels as though there's a history to this prior to the first chapter, which is a good thing, IMO. Actually setting it during the period of the Cold War where tensions were pretty damn high adds a particular level of tension to it, as it seems our protagonists need to handle this situation with extreme delicacy, else some fool accidentally starts an international incident.

Kinda feels like a 50's monster movie... only set in the 60's.

Nicely done with this chapter. Mysterious and quite the fascinating autopsy reports.

I'm really like where this story is going.

Excellent chapter! Well built, wonderful language, and you could feel the tensions between the scientist and the soliders, a throwback to Nazi hatred that could still be lingering. And the whole hinting towards a Dunkleosteous was well done as well, certainly bringing up the scenes from B movies where the scientist begins to explain what the monster is.

Well, the way I explained this is a B movie set in the 60's, written in the 50's and edited in modern times. Which makes this very fun to write.

Currently trying to plot out Chapter 3 and wondering if anyone's interested in doing art for this. It was original meant to be a graphic novel.

Chapter 3 will be out soon and it will be introducing, and be from the perspective of, Agent Lars Hunter. This next chapter, I believe, is the most ambitious yet.

So, I've started reading this. Godzilla The King wants my honest feedback on his chapters. Got done with the first chapter.

There is definitely an air of mystery going on in the first chapter. There seems to be something that has been happening before the story, instead of something simply placed there because the characters interact as if they know about something. There feels to be horror there, too. Something that they know about but we don't is mauling people. Now, they clearly are talking some kind of monster there and the setting along with the scientist sort of give off the B movie vibe. I actually imagine this in black and white.

Some of the description in the first chapter seems a bit lacking, like it doesn't have information instead of withholding information. I guess a sentence or two of elaboration about what it is about something that troubles the character can help to remedy this.
How long has it been? I honestly forgot.

Thank you for the critique, friend, the information being witheld was mostly me focusing on the character building and the second chapter, written mostly by MUTO, is void of that and I believe that Chapter 3, by me, will be void of it to.

By the way, you should all check out Lazer's spin-off, Into the Cold. I'm so glad he is the one to officially make this a series.
