This reminds me of a project I was doing before I started talking with Rainbow Zilla.
A very simplifed version of the idea was that it took place in a year called "5043" but didn't take place in our set time. In it there is no "B.C." or "A.D". There are several main characters: a recently turned 13-year-old, his 16-year-old cousin he had met while running away prior to the story, their friend who can't remember if he is 15 or 16. The last character was something that looks like it should be from hell but is actually responsible for keeping the normal world safe from physical manifestations of the paranormal. The characters, except for the 13 year old and his friend, are all separate at the beginning of the story--
