Fall of the Golden Dragon

This is a short-story that popped up in my head. It is set after Godzilla Unleashed and yes the monsters talk. I will open the discussion thread after I have some views so save major critiques for that. And please, take this with a grain of salt.

Fall of the Golden Dragon

It was a planet anybody would overlook; a long dead sphere that had nothing to hide. Planet X was barren, lifeless, and dry to the core. It had seen conflicts of titanic proportions before man had stood upright. Now, after years of war, it was uninhabited. Nothing remained.

Except for a large golden dragon; on the run for 5 years.

In a mile-long cave, the Destroyer of Planets stirred. King Ghidorah was deep in reflection of his long career of pleasure. He had wiped civilisations off of the face of the Universe. He had seen billions of souls filled with terror. Warlords, conquerors of star systems, were nothing against his might. Whatever he had come across, he destroyed. He was a God.

It was also a longer career of stinging failure.

For all the triumph, there was one obstacle he could never sweep aside. It was the planet Earth. He had seen it as nothing more than another planet of weaklings and he knew he could beat them. Only this planet had another inhabitant:

“Godzilla”, Ghidorah muttered.

“We have never met a force such as this in all our life”, his right brother-head stated.

“I can’t describe the feeling. The fact that I have actually met a monster that…that…”

“Matches you?” his leftist brother questioned.

“NO ONE IS EQUAL TO ME! NO ONE!”

…and yet, Ghidorah was unsure of himself. He could not remember the last sweet victory in his life. He had taken part in so many failed plans for world domination by so many weaker beings: the Xilians, the Kilaaks, the Space Hunter Nebula M, the Vortaak…

Only now did he realize that he had nothing to gain from their help. They were as worthless as the humans if they needed Kaiju such as him to succeed. Even SpaceGodzilla had made that point; his allegiance was to none and he needed none.

SpaceGodzilla. It was his war on Earth in 2024 that had provided Ghidorah with a solution. He unfurled his wings to reveal 7 crystals. These were all samples from the Vortaak of SpaceGodzilla’s assests. He had stolen them and they were the reason he was on the run. They feared what he would become. They had injected him before to be their doomsday weapon, the nail to seal the coffin.

…and even that had failed.

“No…they just didn’t do it right…I can still use them…”

His right-brother was hesitant, “Easy, brother. Don’t let that psychic wisp his way into you mind! Don’t let him take over.”

“NOBODY CONTROLS ME!”

“Do you deny this because you are sure of that or too stuck-up on pride?”

“It…it…it’s persuasive. He knows what I want, he knows my pain. He wants nothing more than to kill him, as do I.”

“You are starting to weake-“

“ENOUGH!”

In a kinetic flash, Ghidorah had ended his brother’s painful ramblings. He had also ended his life. In the same blind rage Ghidorah also ended his other brother’s life, even as he pleaded for mercy. It
was all over in moments. Finally, silence had come to him.

Or not.

They began to return, the voices. They crept into his mind.

“You can still redeem yourself, Ghidorah.”

“No…no, not you!” Ghidorah wailed.

“Yes, my friends can empower you. All the power you need to conquer the known Universe!”

“Get out. Get out, get out, GET OUT!”

“Come Ghidorah. What else have you to lose?”

Ghidorah was stunned by this question. It seemed so true. He would never rest until he had claimed revenge. He had no purpose either way.

He would do it.

He would use the crystals.

He would kill Godzilla.

He would destroy everything.

Ghidorah stood and let the crystals roll to the lip of a small pool of water. With a crash he stomped and ground the crystals down into powder, one-by-one. His brother-heads lying limp, he gave short bursts of air, blowing the powder into the water. They began to mix into an almost beautiful but deadly rainbow of elements. Then, pausing at the water’s edge, Ghidorah bent down and drank from those waters of promise…

Immediately he flew back, the concoction streaking though his veins! He could see himself nearly bursting at the seams with radiant energy. His fallen brothers leapt back to life, their eyes an unforgiving crimson hue. Their cries echoed throughout the cave. Ghidorah was stunned, it had worked!

“Yes, YES! BEAR WITNESS TO MY ASCENSION!” Ghidorah screamed to the heavens.

Indeed, there would be witnesses, for Ghidorah heard jets and strange humming sounds from outside.

His old “partners” had found him.

He could tell that Gigan, Megalon and Orga were preparing to break in. He could hear them skittering about like any ant did. That’s what they were now, ants, nothing more.

“Yeah, alright, you wanna play games? Yeah, okay you little cockroaches, come on I have you now.” he muttered. He began to drink more and more from the crystals, as did his undead brothers. To think he had destroyed planets to stimulate himself!

He marched to the door and prepared to draw from the energies to fry them. He fired his gravity beam unlike he had ever done before, blowing the boulders into non-existence. Gigan and company flew back and blacked out as did the Vortaak forces with them. Gihdorah marched through the smoke taunting them. As Gigan and Megalon scrambled to their feet, he seared them with lightning, throwing them off the cliff. He dealt with the Vortaak to his right and then threw Orga down the cliff as well. He was unstoppable!

“YOU LIKE THAT? HUH? OKAY, COME ON!”

As he heard a crash, he ran up and strafed to ramp up the mountain, throwing the threesome back down the cliff. They began to take cover as he unleashed his full fire power.

Suddenly, he felt pain for the first time in his life.

One of Gigan’s razor disks had just cut right through his shoulder. His shoulder with his scales on it. Never before had anything penetrated his hide so easily. Was this the same effect as before on Earth? The crystals actually harmed him more? He felt weaker in some ways yet he couldn’t understand it.

Not only did the crystals harm his physical strength, they impaired his judgement as well. He took little notice of the wound afterwards, nor did he think out the consequences. He continued fighting and fired another of his ultra-beams. He saw his old friends burst from cover, supposedly dead.

“GAME OVER! OH! OH YEAH, HOW’D YOU LIKE THAT? HUH? YOU WANNA GO SOME MORE? WHO D’YOU THINK YOUR SCREWIN’ WITH HERE? I’M KING GHIDORAH! DESTROYER OF PLANETS! I-“

Again he felt sharp pains, now by the dozen. Gigan, Megalon, Orga and the Vortaak had opened fire and were actually cutting through him! Ghidorah stumbled back as lasers and missiles tore through him, yet he didn’t die. The fire died down though, almost as if Gigan ordered it to.

“HEY, I’M STILL STANDIN’ HUH? YEAH, I’LL TAKE IT! I’LL TAKE IT ALL! I’M ON THE TOP OF THE WORLD! COME ON! GIMME MORE! WELL?”

A loud gun rang out from behind him, into his back.

Then Gidorah realized he was dead.

As his lifeless body hit the rocks below, a metal form stepped in his place. He had been killed by none other than a member of the Godzilla family.

MechaGodzilla.

As his soul left this world, Ghidorah finally realized that he may die happy. The crystals had given him the sensation he had wanted so badly, so be the most powerful force in existence. He had died doing what he enjoyed. Maybe that could be his triumph over Godzilla. Doing what he loved.

And with that, his soul slipped into nothingness.
