Yep, Home Run came as part of the 5.0 update. Targets, however, isn't back, and probably won't come back since Sakurai stated that Home Run would be the final "new" mode they'll be adding.

The last time break the targets was good was when there were like 12 characters in N64.

You’d be insane to ask them to make specifically individualized break the target levels for so many characters.

Yeah, but that's why people stopped caring. The original one on the N64 was gold, because each stage basically was a challenge to perfect with each fighter.

What about the ones in Melee?


They were... good. Some lacked the same creative flair as the N64 versions (not surprising due to the larger roster and expanded 1P modes), but definitely leagues better than what was used in SSBB. If Target Smash was to be brought back but styled after SSBB's, I'd be fine with it never returning.

In that case, yeah, it might be best if it didn't return unless the modding community somehow makes a unique Break the Targets for each character or something.

That'd be great. I was hoping there'd be some mods for the stage builder, that thing's a pain in the ass to work with. It only zooms in so much, so keeping track of blocks on a grid is no fun :(

I am sort of nostalgic for the N64 weirdness of some of the bonus stages that were unique. Like fighting Metal Mario.
