Kaiju Combat - Too Big to Fail!

Postby Mr. Strange » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:17 am

As most of you are already aware, our Kickstarter back in July failed to reach its funding goal. But we licked our wounds, built our community over the past four months, and now Kaiju Combat is back on Kickstarter - and much stronger for it!

Kickstarter link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14214732/kaiju-combat-giant-monsters-awesome-fighting-onlin

If you have any questions, or want to participate in the selection of the roster, or combat mechanics design - join up on the game forums!
Forums link: http://kaijucombat.com/community

If you want to get into some gritty details - check out the online design wiki. Any good discussion thread in the forums gets turned into a design page here, with links back to the (ongoing) discussion that determines the design of the final game. Way too much detail for the casual fan, but just right for those few grognardy geeks among us.

If you just want to check out the monster concepts we are working with, here's that direct link: http://kaijucombat.com/wiki/doku.php?id=ckc_monster_list

Any questions, comments? Post it here and we'll get you answered.

UPDATE 3/9/2015

For folks who haven't been following our development process, here are a few links you can check to see what's up. Coming onto the forums is still probably the best way to chat with someone who's more immediately involved, but for those who prefer to read:

If a nice almost whopping $20k all came in within a day, that is just incredible. I personally wish for the best with this Kickstarter, Mr. Strange. :)

Oh yeah, getting 20% of our funding in 24 hours makes me very happy.

And at the same time - I have a powerful urge to crush an entire city beneath my feet. (?!?) Weird.

Oh wow, 20% already done on the first day?! Dang.

Good luck, Mr. Strange! Looks much more promising than the original. Can't donate just yet, but I'll definitley be able to get some money in before it ends.

Pledging today costs you nothing - pledges will not actually go through until the 21st of December, and even then ONLY if we reach our $100,000 funding goal.

December 21st, 2012...

Excellent choice of end date, I should say.
I don't think I saw the same movies as the rest of you.
I'll always miss Vega.

Imagine the possibilities if every member of TK were generous enough to donate $5.00. :P

We should exploit the Dec. 21st ending date.

WHEN THE KICKSTARTER ENDS,
LIFE ENDS.
DONATE NOW! :D

Believe me - I "imagine" that almost every day!

Kickstarter is an amazing tool for teams like us - it essentially allows folks to pre-order the game, in the hopes that we get enough pre-orders to fund development. If the $ total doesn't hit our goal? Nobody is charged. You either get the game, or you don't pay.

On our first day, we raised $19,000. Amazing! But our second day looks to be coming in at just about $2,000. That rate is just about good enough to get us to $100,000 by the end of the month, but we don't just want to barely hit our target - we want to CRUSH our target.

Folks at Toho Kingdom know how awesome Kaiju can be, and how awesome a game like this would be. $20 gets you a copy of the game - $75 gets you a copy of every game we ever make! And for $500? You get to design a monster for the roster.

If you pledge even $5 we let you vote on game features, roster selection, and so forth. We want to engage our fans because our fans are, very literally, making this game happen.

I'm sure you've spent $20 on something silly at some point - here's a chance to spend it on a game that will be literally life-changing for our team, and a source of joy for Kaiju fans everywhere.

One last thing - "early" money (pledged in the first week) really counts more than money pledged later - because it helps bring in new backers.

Seeing that got me so hyped! Really hoping there will be more teaser animations like this in the future. :D

Well - more animations of Macrosaurus are a pretty sure bet.

We won't have time to make more models, so other characters will have to wait until we've reached our funding goal.

Seems like I'm the ONLY one who actually wants Duncan! Might change the name though... Maybe something original and in-direct, like "The Un-Bound"? Get it? Un-BOUND?!

;)

Playing as a Giant Green Kangaroo would fill the much wanted "Gaira-type" role requested in the last couple Godzilla games!

Kaiju Combat "Duncan" re-name request?

Postby Red-Death Gigan » Fri Nov 23, 2012 3:18 pm

Duncan will get a lot more support with a better name and/or title. I personally like mine, "The Un-Bound" (get it?)

;)

Is this possible, and do you like my name/title for my favorite Giant Green Bad-Ass?!

The monsters look pretty badass, especially the Tornaq and Moray Eel one.
Would be a really fun game to play, even if Godzilla might not be in it.

Unfortunately, Duncan is an original character designed by one of our $500 backers. The name is really his call.

However, we are not necessarily destined to have Duncan as a playable character! We will have a roster vote later in which our community will select our initial line-up from the list of custom monsters. If Duncan doesn't get a majority of the votes - he won't be a playable character.

Using community votes makes sure that unpopular characters will not be included in the game. That safety net also allows creators to have more freedom with their characters.

So, if votes say a monster is unpopular, that monster won't be in game?

I would be incredibly pissed I spent $500 then.
Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen in your life. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility.

lol, the monster would be put on stand-by, it wouldn't disappear. Each release would have votes to judge what monsters go in, so the most unpopular monsters would be in an *original monster* release at some future time. But every original monster will eventually see a release.

People paying $500 are taking a sort of gamble - they may love their monster, but if the voters say otherwise... hope you have patience! :d
