Doom 3 BFG Edition

Postby Hellspawn28 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:16 am

Old news but since no one posted it then why not? We are getting a HD version of Doom 3 that will include the previous Resurrection of Evil expansion, and a new single player expansion pack called The Lost Mission. It will also include copies of Doom 1 and Doom 2.

This is new news to me, haha! Sounds awesome, I haven't played Doom 3 but I have that expansion pack and like so many ports of Doom: one's for Xbox, one's for XBLA and the original PC one. :)

All three Doom games in one package? YES, PLEASE. I remember [vaguely] playing Doom (probably the first one) on the computer when I was like, 3 years old or something. At a young age, let's say. Maybe that's why I find older video games much more entertaining than newer ones? Hell, I just finished of the secret level on Duke Nukem 3D not 10 minutes ago.

There are only three Doom games??? Then how come I own Final Doom (which consists of Project Plutonia AND TNT) and Doom 64? And then there are the Master Levels, the 360 expansion for Doom II, the officially licensed Perdition's Gate, Doom RPG, and the I-phone rail shooter.

Depending on the price, I'll purchase the BFG Edition. I was never impressed with Doom 3, although I thought Resurrection of Evil was an improvement. The tweaked gameplay and expansion might sweeten the pot.

I haven't played Doom in ages, I had no clue there were more than those three. ;-;

I've been a massive Doom fan since the first game's release. I played the first two games after school in the computer lab before games abruptly "turned children into murderers," and, for a while, I owned the original release of Ultimate Doom (which is Doom with an extra chapter of missions) and Doom II. I still have the awesome poster that came with the Ultimate Doom box, but I got rid of those games when I found a collector's edition of Doom which had Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom on one CD. For a while, I owned Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil, but I got rid of those because I wasn't a big fan.

I also own the SNES version of Doom, Doom 64, PSX Doom, and PSX Final Doom. PSX Doom is a combination of Doom and Doom II, with new sounds, lighting effects, music, monster and item placement, a few new levels from the Jaguar release of Doom, etc. PSX Final Doom is kind of a "best of" of Final Doom and the Master Levels. Doom 64 is a whole new game, albeit built on the Doom II wad, with completely new levels and monster, item, and weapon sprites. The music and sounds are lifted from the PSX games, though.

Ugh pass. Doom to me is a PC game and always should be.

I'll take my experience and the creator of Doom's praise over your preference any day. Both versions are fantastic in their own right, though.

I'll give you your experience, but the creator's praised (or dislike) of anything matters not. I.E. - Whedon, Lucas..

^ Doesn't that depend on the creator, though? Lucas is an obvious money grubber, and Whedon is pretty annoying. I'd be more inclined to agree with you if PSX Doom had come out, say, 10 or 15 years after the fact, because it would feel like Romero was selling out. But it came out barely a year after Doom II was released on PC, and some serious effort was put into its development. If you can, and if you haven't already, emulate PSX Doom on your computer.

Do you think the creator of the franchsie is going to bash ANY of the titles? He's making money off each game that comes out, even if it sucks. No creator is going to come out and say "Uhhh....yea I didnt enjoy it as much as DOOM 3."

Here's a video of the people at Game Informer playing through a bit of Doom for the PS1.

Apparently SWTOR said that I can invite 25 people for a 7 day trial of the game. PM me if interested.

Ridley Scott's view of the Alien franchise comes to mind. And Toho pretty much disavowed Godzilla '98. And while this doesn't involve franchises perse, Alan Smithee exists for a reason.

But no, Romero really liked the PSX version of Doom, and with good reason. It's dynamic lighting system, atmospheric music and sounds, and slightly altered gameplay made for a unique experience. It was also one of the best selling launch titles.

I dont think Ridley Scott made money off Aliens, Alien3, A:R, AVP. AVP:R. And Toho made money off GINO and their disavowing it means nothing since Zila was in GFW. Sure that movie bombed but if they really wanted to distance themselves, he wouldnt have been in it at all, even as a joke.

And funny how in the first 60 seconds of that video Bret posted they say the same thing I did in my previous post.

What a pretentious bunch of guys in that video. It's not like you can't change the controls, and it's not like PSX Doom is a combination of Doom AND Doom II. Also, why would analog sticks work? It came out at launch, when the PSX controller didn't even have analog sticks

Also, Wataru, is your hypothesis that Romero only said PSX Doom was good because he allegedly made a bunch of bux from it?

"Best Doom yet!"

Yknow that really is? He played it, he wants to make money off it. It's not epic shit, he might even like it. But again, it's a quote try to hype the game. Also the word "-yet!" makes the statement meaningless. ALL movies and video games get that tag.

You've sure convinced me, wataru. First thing in the morning, I'll cram my PSX copies of Doom and Final Doom through my shredder, throw my PS3 in the trash, smash my Doom 64 cartridge with a hammer, and set my Doom posters on fire before giving John Romero an apologetic blowjob.
