Former Capcom combat advisor Seth Killian is joining Sony Santa Monica as lead game designer for the external group. Killian will be working directly with developers such as thatgamecompany, Fun Bits, and SuperBotEntertainment.

"The Santa Monica Studio really blew me away," Killian told Game Informer. "They're an awesome group of people working on great games that go from God of War to The Unfinished Swan. While everyone has heard of their games, I'm not sure people realize they're all coming through Santa Monica, but it's like a Wonka Factory of gaming goodness.

"They're also super strong on combat design and fighting, which makes me feel like I'm right at home."

Killian says he's excited about the opportunity to work on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal, the first announced project he's working on.

"All-Stars applies some new ideas to the genre, but it's a fighting game through and through," he explained. "The SuperBot team was built from the ground up explicitly to make this game, and they've got a bunch of top-tier competitive players as well as some of the best combat designers I've ever met.

"The moves are all easy to do, and it's soaking in a ridiculous amount of Sony fan-service, but don't be fooled -- there's an incredibly clever combat engine under the hood that makes a whole world of strategy possible."

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal is due out later this fall for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Well I'm more excited for this game now.
Apparently SWTOR said that I can invite 25 people for a 7 day trial of the game. PM me if interested.

Pre-Order Bonuses and Release Date for PlayStation All-Stars

It’s only been a few weeks since E3, and the Internet has been set ablaze with anticipation for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! We announced new fighters Nathan Drake and Big Daddy, and that PlayStation All-Stars will have a PlayStation Vita release when it launches later this year – so you’ll be able to take the battle with you on the go, or experience cross-platform matches against your friends whether you’re playing on PS3 or PS Vita.

We’ve been thrilled to hear all of the great responses to the news about the game so far, and have been reading all of your questions and comments on the blogs and forums. While we’ll get to answering all of them soon enough, today we’re going to be answering a couple of the more popular ones: “Why pre-order?” and “When is the game coming out?”

Aside from making sure you’ve got a copy on day one, pre-ordering will snag you an exclusive set of costumes for all of the characters in the game! Here are the outfits for the roster so far, but be sure to check back in with us later when we unveil them all.

Image

We’ve revealed eight characters already, but you’ll have to wait until our announcement later today to see who else will be in the ring. We will be unveiling two new characters during our Exhibition Presentation at EVO in Las Vegas this evening at 6:00pm PST. So if you’re in town for the tournament, stop by and check us out or tune in to the PS.Blog for more information.

When the game launches, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to unlock multiple costumes for each character, but these exclusive costumes will only be available if you pre-order. And yes, they’ll be available right when you start playing the game!

I’ll leave you with one last update: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be launching on October 23rd, 2012! We’ll have plenty more details on the game — including pricing for both the PS3 and PS Vita versions — soon enough, but we wanted to give you a date to mark on your calendars. Be sure to head over to a participating retailer to reserve your copy today!

I love your comment with number 2, hehe.

Hope with comic con, we get something.... Like wouldn't it be hilarious if Spider-Man made an appearance? Hehe

Young Heihachi (From Tekken)

and Toro! (Sony Japan Mascot)

....Thus far, the roster is surprisingly unique, and that trailer was pretty awesome :D

I think I'm going to preorder this game if comic con reveals are impressive. Sadly, it seems that there are 'haters' that do not like that Toro is a playable character. Saying that he's useless while ignoring the fact that Toro is Sony's Japanese Mascot.

Oh and the Dojo is a playable stage! Sick!

Two new trailers for the two new characters!
http://youtu.be/v77RwbxaLog Toro

http://youtu.be/OSvLQDUQ858 Heihachi

Also, Snake, or some other MGS character, is basically confirmed with Metal Gear in the background of the stage. One more thing, anyone notice that Toro has Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter moves?

That isn't a Metal Gear mech in the background of the Dojo stage. It's actually a mech from Killzone 3 which I provided a picture of below. I also found a comment by jtir123 on the SuperBot announces Toro the Cat and a young Heihachi for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale article that regards Crash and Spyro. It says, "Superbot said they had no trouble getting any of the characters they asked for, and they've been acting rather coy about Crash and Spyro. Jak is first party, and there's even a Jak and Daxter stage, he's no doubt in." All I can say is that if Crash Bandicoot and Spyro don't appear in this game, I'll be pretty disappointed seeing as they were one of Sony's big franchises for three or four years before being bought out by other companies.

I really think Spike (Ape Escape) would work very well in PASBR in my honest opinion. I mean, the main games had a wide variety of gadgets and vehicles for the characters to use which would make a really good move set for Spike if done properly.

Hey don't give them ideas ;) . I would love if Legend of Dragoon gets some love and they added the main character into the game. Sadly I doubt it since most people today don't remember that game.

Evo Interview Panel Recap

Notes on the panel for those who may have missed it. Hopefully the videos are up soon, because those combo vids are sick:

Release Date: October 23rd

GAME MECHANICS

SUPERS
- Supers are earned by accumulating AP
- There are 3 levels of super, each level being more powerful than the last
- Supers can’t be blocked, but there are various ways to defend against them
- Level 1 supers are not as easy to land. Level 2 supers are more combo-able.
- Level 3 supers lockout all other supers. Example: While Kratos is in god-mode, no other super can be activated.

DEFENDING AGAINST SUPERS (Level 1 and Level 2)
- Supers can be avoided, dodged, or countered
- Supers can be dodged.
+ With half a frame on a roll. Several characters were shown doing this.
+ With a full frame on an air dodge. Big Daddy was able to air dodge Nate’s Lvl 1 propane tank super
- Supers can be evaded.
+ Sly was able to teleport outside of a super
+ A big focus is the air game which is used avoid many OTG supers
- Supers can be interrupted
+ Normals can be used to interrupt most level 1 supers which require a charge up.
+ Supers can be countered with other supers

THROWS
- Throws can be used to eject, knockback, combo, and deplete meter

COMBO SYSTEM
- With Infinite Avoidance System, characters don’t fall victim to infinite combos
+once you hit an AP threshold, your opponent gets ejected from the combo and placed into an invincible aerial state until they hit the ground.
- An extensive combo video was shown that will hopefully go into these mechanics.

CONFIRMED MODES
Story Mode
- Every character has a rival
- Heihachi and Toro (w/ Kuro) confirmed as rivals
Multiplayer Mode
- Singles
- Doubles
- Free For All
(Customization options: Timed Mode, Stock Mode, Reverse Stock Mode)
Combat Trials
Training Mode

HOW ARE CHARACTERS SELECTED?
- interesting and unique gameplay is first and foremost
- characters people associate with playstation
- characters that make the game better
- not necessary a balance of era (PSX, PS2, PS3, etc)
- characters that are popular/niche
- character selections not entirely up to superbot (Sony mandates certain portions of the roster. So if someone doesn't get in, you know that its due to Sony)

WHY WAS HEIHACHI INCLUDED AND WHAT’S HIS FIGHTING STYLE?
-He was a cool character
-Tekken is a playstation fighting game
-He is the patriach of the mishima family
+ up close, combo oriented
+ lots of dodge attacks to close the gap between him and his opponents
+ He has a move where he throws a bowling pin (an homage to Tekken 2)
+ His Lvl 3 Super is based off his Tekken 5 Ending

WHY WAS TORO INCLUDED AND WHAT’S HIS FIGHTING STYLE?
-Really big in japan
-Official playstation mascot
+ loves cosplay and wants to be human
+ each stance represents various fighting games (MK, SF, and Tekken)

SOUNDTRACK
- each level is this world meets this world and the music reflects that through remixes
- an OST is something Omar really wants to have happen for this game

UNLOCKABLES
- outfit for every character
- Alluded to potential customization options

FOR COMIC-CON
+ New costumes confirmed
+ New characters plus a few other surprises

ONLINE DETAILS and POST LAUNCH PLANS
- Character adjustments can be made on the fly based on data collected of online matches played.
- They’re trying something new with the online so there’s no slowdown and the experience is the same across the board, different from most fighting games
- The plan is pack in as much content as they can on disc, and whoever they miss, they’ll work to add via DLC. That is of course going to be based on demand and other factors.

I want to see:

Blasto
Chell (Portal)
Crash Bandicoot
Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7)
Dart (Legend of Dragoon)
Dante (Devil May Cry) - The only Capcom character that I can see working at the moment.
Ico (Ico)
Jak (Jak and Daxter)
Nariko (Heavenly Sword)
Ratchet (Ratchet and Clank)
Rudy Roughnight (Wild Arms)
Sir Daniel (MediEvil)
Spyro
Spike (Ape Escape)
Tomba
Tiny Tank

I know it won't likely happen but I would like to see Agumon given that Digimon did a play a big part of the PS1/PSX since the Digimon World games where popular. I remember they where often view as Sony's answer to the Pokemon games at the time.

Jak, Ratchet, and Lord Fortesque are the only ones I'm really expecting. And it wouldn't be a surprise to see Crash and/or Spyro.

It'd be great if obscure Sony characters like Ari/Stan (From Okage.), Ellen or Keats (From Folklore.), or even a character from Siren could make an appearance. But of course, that's unlikely considering this is an All-stars game. :(

Spyro, Crash, and some of the WotM characters are the only ones I'm hoping to be in this game, but aside from that, I don't mind what character they will use for the game.
