I watch the first three seasons of Spongebob on Netflix, just so I can remind myself that the show was once upon a time skreeonk awesome and not pants-on-head stupid like it is now.

I don't see a problem with spongebob still being on for those that want to watch why take it away from someone that likes (kids) Just because most of us on the forum age group don't find it funny anymore.

Retire isn't the right term, but yes, SpongeBob needs a rest.

I will say, I think SpongeBob's the kind of character who can come back in ten and twenty years be a timeless success. But the current series definitely needs to come to an end. Say what you will about Family Guy, South Park, but I'd say SpongeBob is the show that has suffered the most in terms of quality.

If the kids still like it what harm is it doing?

Only problem with this statement was MJ didn't have a childhood in till he got to be an adult.

Michael Jackson, and his brothers, were worked over by their father growing up trying to hit it big. Once they did, they were worked harder. Only when Michael went solo and started making his own money did he finally get to create his own childhood.

I... still really like it, actually. Mostly I'm just there because I have a demented sense of humor, and thus find it funny- that and Tom Kenny's awesome.

That's right, they were in the soundtrack for the first movie, weren't they?

Anyways, I agree and disagree. Can't say why, I just find some of the newer episodes to be pretty good at times. They obviously don't have the charm of the older episodes...

Actually... no. Being a child sucks. You know, kids often want to be "grown ups", they want to be considered "mature", at least what they think they understand of such concepts, and as soon as possible... it gets to a point where saying that you watch a cartoon for children may be considered a "sin" among children...

No, I can't speak for everybody, but I'l rather stay an adult, and watch whatever the skreeonk I want. Just saying.

Yes, this series has honestly dropped to a very base and moronic sense of humor.

The writing for the earlier three and to a degree the fourth season was really clever and entertaining. It's humor that repeatedly makes me laugh today. There are far better shows out there that kids should be watching rather than seeing this series dragged through creative sea sludge for years to come.

Cool story, bro. I honestly can't think of any other reason people watch shows intended for an audience 1/3 their age though.

Maybe because they are funny? Or because they like them? Maybe quality is not nor it should be exclusive for shows with an specific target audience? Will the world end if you don't make some definitive statement out of nowhere?

I wasn't aware that Spongebob had been around for so long, I haven't seen an episode in ages either... but if wikipedia is anything to go by (It probably isn't, but what do I know), acording to it we will be having a tenth season, long past 200 episodes, by 2015: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sp ... on_9:_2012

Not to be all holier-than-thou, but that was my initial thought. I never liked SpongeBob even in the supposed "heyday" but I also just changed the channel rather than demand the show be dropped from programming.

Newer episodes talk down to kids which the older ones never seemed to do. They had that Pixar "even adults can get something out of this too" approach.

The sad thing is the first couple episodes when they came back in '05 were pretty good. The premiere of that season is one of my favorite of the show's episodes in the long-run.

But overall, I'd have capped it off by now personally.

All the episodes to the movie itself were just awesome then everything went to crap with the newest episodes (although
some are ok, the show isnt what it used to be).
