Didn't see many movies this year. I did very much enjoy ignoring the Hunger Games. I'm going to have to ignore Catching Fire when it comes out to relive the experience.

Best movie I've seen: Chronicle (slightly edges out Avengers)
Worst movie I've seen: Wrath of the Titans (and it was only mediocre)

Wow. GXG enjoyed Ghost Rider. I totally didn't see that coming.

I'm not judging. I thought it was trashy fun, myself.

Oh yeah, the movie is absolute garbage. A terrible movie in almost every sense of the word...but it is so much fun! It really is the best example I can think of when it comes to a "So bad, its good" movie. I had so much fun cracking up at the terrible plot, terrible acting, laughable action and one-liners, and of course Nicholas Cage, the one actor I've never taken seriously.

The way I see it, if you go in to the movie with zero expectations and don't take anything seriously, you'll have a blast with Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance.

I didn't like the new Ghost Rider film at all. But it's nice to see someone who didn't like the Hunger Games since the movie was way too over hype and it seems like they only made the film for the people who read the book. I hate when adaptations do that since a movie based on a novel, comic, video game or TV show should stand out on it's own as opposed to relying on the viewers having seen or read the original source material previously. Look at The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or The Godfather for example. I've never read them but I was satisfied with the movies to the point where I don't feel obligated to read the source material.

I can't even enjoy the Ghost Rider movies on a MST3K level because they totally mess up such a cool character.

I have only seen Project X this year, so that is the best movie I've seen so far. It was a very fun movie though so I think it's worth it.

Well, I've never cared for Ghost Rider, as a character, in the slightest. Nor have I ever taken him seriously. He's a guy with a flaming skull, and rides around a flaming motorcycle. I really don't see any other reaction to that, other than lots and lots of laughter. Even by super hero standards, Ghost Rider is just so ridiculous that I find it impossible to take this guy seriously.

And it really doesn't help that point when he's played by Nic Cage, the man who gave us "NOT THE BEES!! AHHHH!!! THEY'RE IN MY EYES!!! MY EYES!! AHHH!!" and "HOW'D IT GET BURN'D?!?! HOW'D IT GET BURN'D?!?!"

Cage Rage at it's finest.

The only time I have ever liked Nic Cage was when he was in Kick Ass.

Why the Nic Cage hate? I don't find him to be the worst actor of all time like film purists make him out to be. Insane, hell yeah but that's what I like about him. Not every actor/actresses has to be a technical actor or actresses. Just sayin

Kick Ass was Nick Cage's best film in the past few years and he is not even the main character of the movie. I do love Drive Angry as a guilty pleasure but the movie was both a box office failure and critical failure. People seem to stop taking Nick Cage seriously as a actor and I won't be surprise if he ends up doing direct to video movies like Val Kilmer has been doing after Red Planet in 2000.

To be fair, I don't hate Nic Cage. I don't see how someone could hate him. I just don't take him seriously. The guy is crazy in every meaning of the word, but he knows that he's crazy, and he loves that he's crazy. I respect him for that, but as such, I can't help but laugh whenever he tries to do anything of importance. This video demonstrates that perfectly:

You know, that was exactly how I felt about it. The only thing I hoped for going in it was that the action consisted of more than Ghost Rider standing in place and pointing at people, which was probably my biggest knock against the previous film (to put it in my POV, I thought the previous Ghost Rider film was Marvel's second worst movie, after their 90's version of Captain America).

I was familiar with the directors, so I knew it would be off the wall nonsense. I pretty much went in thinking it would be exactly what it was, and I had fun giggling at both it and the angry people grumbling about how awful it was on the way out.

It was a good time. I wanted to see it again, but the theaters dropped it like a first wife hitting 35.

The Grey - 4.5 out of 5
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - 4 out of 5
The Hunger Games - 4 out of 5
The Avengers - 5 out of 5

That's all I've seen so far this year. I've honestly surprised myself by having not seen a single film I've NOT thought was great yet (hooray, triple negative!).

Rest of the year:

Brave
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
The Dark Knight Rises
Taken 2
Skyfall
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Django Unchained

Maybe:

Battleship
Prometheus
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The Amazing Spider-Man
(refuse to pay for this one)
The Expendables 2
The Great Gatsby
