Lobo the movie

Postby mecha-gino » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:02 pm

Holy Crap, I'm Alive! :)

So WB is getting a go on doing some more comic book films lately, a lot of which is our indie books but hey we got a new one from DC that isn't Supes or Bats and it's... Lobo.

Yeah, I know a lot of people were expecting Wonder Woman, The Flash, or even Aqauaman next but hey I'm going to give this one a shot and see how it is. The Main Man needs some live action love.

I love how after the failure of Jonah Hex and Marvel's all but confirmed success with their Avengers film, DC and WB still back an obscure cult character over the big guns.

Yeah, who needs Wonder Woman and the Flash when we can have a goddamn Lobo movie!

This should be interesting. Makes me want to see a movie version of the Mask vs Lobo.

The Lobo script made in 1998 was fun and I would love to see that movie been made in the 90's. This movie already sounds bad from the start and it just been announced that Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) is writing the script. Watch this flop just like Jonah Hex did.

Not very hard.

Warner Brothers frustrates the hell out of me. They've had the properties for decades, everytime they have a success they're eager to exploit it. Everytime they have a failure, they cower in their own shadow. Batman Begins was supposed to be thr beginning of a new era of DC on film, the Superman Returns underwhelmed and they turned chicken shit. Then focus was upon Green Lantern to usher in this era, but they booted into safe mode with so many cliches they gave the public a product they didn't want.

Now they're scardy cats again. Man of Steel is our only real hope to get some decent franchises going by 2020, and with Snyder at the helm, I'm scared as shit.

Did Green lantern really do that poorly?
Apparently SWTOR said that I can invite 25 people for a 7 day trial of the game. PM me if interested.

I don't think it did John Carter bad but it was pretty awful.

I thought they were going to do Justice League after Dark Knight Rises. I guess Man of Steel messes that up. They keep saying that's going to be its own thing.

The best that can be said for it is that of all the non-Batman/Superman properties WB put out, it made the most domestically (Watchmen topped it in ticket sales), and world wide it was behind only Constantine. But it still only made $220 mil on a $200 mil budget.

Superhero fatigue can't be blamed, because its $55 mil openining showed that it had anticipation. If the movie didn't suck, it might have had legs.

WB did spend 125 million on marketing on the film and the movie has 325 million budget if you add marketing to the film's budget. Green Lantern would have to make at least 500 million worldwide to be considered financially solid from what I've been told.

I wanted to get into writing comics with a Lobo miniseries, and if they made the movie they might actually take my scipt. Fanciful thinking I know, but all my other dreams are clouded with Freddy Krueger.

Still, if it did get made I might go see it. Got some buddies that like Lobo.
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

I wonder, if they can make this film without any Superman references.

I don't like the charactor of Lobo, at all. I don't doubt this is going to be a shitty flick.

Considering that Lobo was supposed to be DC's jab at Marvel's Wolverine, and seeing how poorly they have realized Wolverine in films, I am inclined to agree that Lobo might just suck, unless they make him a CGI or suitmation character and have Brad Garret voice him like he did in Lobo's appearance on the Superman animated series. I don't know how that would go without interaction with superman though.
The only other time Lobo caught my interest was in the 90's when he had a crossover with Dark Horse Comics' "The Mask".

Unless this is a 90 minute Heavy Metal esque guns, tits and explosions movie with amazing writing skills: I have no interest in it. At all.

With TDKR in 2012 and MoS in 2013, DC *needs* to put out a stinker. It's like their corporate strategy.

Seeing that they got the writer of Cats & Dogs 2 working on this movie, there is 99% that this movie is going to suck. If Guy Ritchie was still the director then the movie could have been somewhat decent.

Well I'm not going to shit on this film like so many others as this could be up the director's/writer's ally.

But it appears... The rock is going to play Lobo!? I was kind of hoping for it to be Black Adam but this could be good.
