I remember a lot of those old shorts on What a Cartoon from 1995-1996. I'm remember that I was surprise that Larry & Steve later became Family Guy. I remember I was like "Holy shit I remember this when I was like four or five years old! I can't believe this would later transform into a huge TV show later!".

Those who have had a childhood during the late 90s will definitely remember Toonami, the awesome programming block on Cartoon Network that aired such shows like Voltron, Robotech, Ronin Warriors, Tenchi Muyo!, and of course, Dragon Ball Z. One could argue that Toonami was the main catalyst that gave popularity to Japanese anime into American shores. Well, it looks like it might be coming back.

Adult Swim recently tweeted their followers this:

@adultswim
Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami

If you tuned into Cartoon Network this past Sunday, you might have been able to catch the return of Toonami, as they aired Dragon Ball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Trigun and other favorites for an April Fool's special marathon (Steve Blum even returned to voice Toonami mascot T.O.M., pictured above). Well, that marathon did exceptionally well, and now it looks like Adult Swim is considering bringing it back.

(Another site, same story)

The April Fool's Joke that was played for laughs by Adult Swim, has now become a blazing spark devouring a short fuse and detonating a massive time bomb that has reawaken nostalgia and Toonami fans. And due to godly high ratings, Adult Swim has taken an interest in bringing back Toonami. What happened over the weekend doesn't have to be a one night trip back into the amazing 90's. We can bring it back, the petition (Bring Back Toonami) is near critical mass, and is closing in its limit of 10, 000 signatures. And CN's Feedback (And Adult Swim's) has been overflowing with demands to return back the programming and Tom. We're almost there, we just need an extra push or two to finally obtain our holy grail back.

If Toonami does come back then I doubt they will show DBZ again since I'm pretty sure it was only a one time deal to play it on April 1st. I didn't stay up all night to watch Toonami on April 1st and does anyone know that they show Beast Wars or Reboot? I still don't know why they played the 3rd Tenchi Muyo! OVA if the whole idea was a nostalgia throw back and the 3rd OVA was never played on TV until now? It would make more sense to play the first OVA's since they where on TV from 1999-2001 from what I can remember.

It's funny how a April Fools gag cause so many people to bring something back so badly. I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The Best Toonami was the "Original" line up from 1995-Voltron,Thundercats, Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Robotech, Ronin Warriors, and the various Gundam shows were nice additions, but it just went down hill after that. Yes kiddies There was a good Toonami before DBZ ruined it.

I remember watching Beast Wars, Thunder Cats and Reboot in the 90's. I remember that they would play last week's episode of Beast Wars that Fox Kid's played for the people that miss out on it. Anyone remember when Tom used to be fat during the old school runs of Toonami?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the ONLY time Toonami ever showed Beast Wars I can recollect was in the spring of 1998 (May I'm thinking?) It was a special cross-promotion with Hasbro for a Toy Contest... For one week (M-F) They showed the last 5 episodes of Season 2, which were U.S. Premiers (They had already been seen on YTV in Canada), but were held over until the fall of 1998 on independent stations to follow up with season 3. I remember ReBoot being on Toonami, but never Beast Wars as a regular program. Beast Wars didn't air on Fox Kids Network untill the Fall of 1999 in reruns M-F since Beast Machines was the "New" show airing on Saturday mornings. Prior to that - Beast Wars original airings were on Independent stations based on local channels (one of the last of this type) Season 1 aired on the "Power Block" (along with GI:Joe Extreme, and reruns of ReBoot) M-F. Seasons 2&3, Depending on local stations, could air any time on Saturday or Sunday mornings from 6am-11am in some areas. I had to wake up at 6:30 on Saturday mornings to watch it on my local affiliate.

I remember the 1st Tom "dying" or some such thing, and him coming back as seen above.

Oh yes, "The Intruder". And the viewers got to vote on the new engine that his ship gets.

It's actually happening a lot faster than you would think. A lot of fans are showing support and getting behind this. From Twitter, to sending feedback to CN, to facebook, to signing petitions, and of course to spreading word of the mouth.

Update from TOM about the whole BringBackToonami deal (For those who don't know, although its part 2)

You heard wrong. It was that whole Mooninite bomb scare fiasco that ultimately lead to Toonami's demise.

Kinda poetic that AS, which was the catalyst for Toonami's end, may ultimately be the catalyst of its rebirth as well.

I dont watch CN.

At. All.

I download the few shows I watch:
Generator Rex, Ben 10, Thundercats and Young Justice.

Until they show good cartoons, I refuse to give them my ratings.
Wataru
TK's Resident Comic Book God & Raggedy Ann Enthusiast.
Sandy Frank dubs. All others are fail.

I miss shows like Ed Edd n Eddy, Dexter's Lab and Samuri Jack

I hate everything they have on now except Adventure time. And the newer Ben 10 shows make me want to cut off my ears just like the newer pokemons

Yeah the Intruder was some kind of blob eating the ship from the inside out as I remember. They pretty much had to eject the engines it was eating.

People seem that they want DBZ back so badly as well.? Why when you have the DVD's uncut and you can watch them with great subs for once as well. Until April 1st 2012, CN never played DBZ since 2005 when the Ultimate Uncut run came to a end.

Because nobody wants to buy it, maybe?

When you are watching the show on TV, everything is edited. I remember I would buy the uncut VHS tapes before Toonami would play the episode and how badly they edit the show.

Toonami Tooshami. I stopped caring about it once they did that re-design in the last couple years and moved to Saturdays. That Toonami sucked. The short, weekdays version with Tom and the ship was vastly superior.
