OK, wow. That was a great episode, but I'm a bit bummed about the fire ferrets not winning. Korra made up for it though when she went after the Equalists, she was pretty awesome out there 8-)

Korra's team didn't win due to Amon was going to take the bending away from the winners of the championship AKA plot reasons.

Also Amon makes me feel like if he went up against Aang back in the day on the fire nation side the fire nation might have won the War he is now my favorite Avatar villain taking the spot from Azula.

Well everyone ready for the season finale. And did anyone else see Amon just walk through a blood bender that was sick.

That was awesome, most benders can't even take a blood bender like that.

Amon as Bumi still seems like a good possibility to me.

Since my debate thread got locked, I'll just put my theory on Amon here instead.

Like many people, I am thinking that Amon is probably Avatar Aang's son, Bumi. The lack of discussion about him and his status as a nonbender was one of the things that really tipped my suspicion towards him. I can fully understand him having a motive to do this as well. As a child, Bumi would have been surrounded by benders: Tenzin, his parents, Toph, Lin, etc. Bumi may have been jealous towards his brother and his friends because they could bend while he couldn't. He would have not only shown jealousy of his friends, but be picked by benders by not fitting the stereotype of being a bender because he is Aang's son. Aang, seeing that his son was in this position, may have felt that his son may need a way to defend himself from benders in the hope of positive impact. From his father, Bumi may have learned how to block chi and possibly take people's bending away. To make the show more tragic and deep in its plot, something may have triggered him into swearing vengeance or doing something against benders. His father may have stopped him, severing his ties with his family and setting him off as an outcast.

What do you guys think?

Having finished the original series, I have begun on THE LEGEND OF KORRA. The pilot episode was very cool, albeit a little jarring from the drastically new world. I think there was a little more crammed into this episode than necessary, but I liked it regardless.

Now I wait for reruns.....

I don't think Amon is Bumi. Amon does what he does because his family was killed, Bumi's family is obviously still alive, also from the picture provided of Bumi, he has dark skin like his mother. Amon has light skin

Makeup. If they have cars, they have makeup. And, he could be lying- or stretching the truth- about his family being dead. Sort of a "You're dead to me, bender" thing.
Hell, maybe Amon is TENZIN! Or Aang's Ghost! Or Sokka's son!

Is the finale this weekend? And it's supposed to be an hour-long, two-parter?

^ I think there's going to be another episode or two before the finale, though I'm not positive.

My take on the issue of Amon's identity: I don't think it matters. I don't think he really matters, either. He's always kinda struck me as too... generic to be this show's Big Bad. Much like Admiral Zhao in the original show's first season, I think he's mostly a tool to toughen up our heroes, teach them the ropes of Avatar super-heroics so they'll be up to the challenge Season Two's main villain will present.

That's what I hope, too. After Azula, Amon is just incredibly bland and uninteresting. Everything about him says over-the-top, badass-for-the-sake-of-badass plot device.

Na the season finale is next week. They are taking a break this weekend. I can kind of see JAGzilla's point and find it valid. They were advertising for the finale to be a showdown between Amon and Korra. He could just be one of the first enemies Korra must overcome as she trains to become a mature Avatar. I still think that my theory can still be valid, but it would only work if Amon is intended to stay on the show longer.

I do like the idea of Amon as Bumi; that would certainly add a lot of depth to his character and make him that much more interesting. But it seems kind of unlikely. If Amon's whole anti-Bending crusade was originally triggered by jealousy towards Tenzin, Lin, etc., I'd think he might show some interest in them, maybe throw a few cryptic "this is your fault" kind of lines at them. But if memory serves, he hasn't interacted with them at all.

Now, an explanation for that might be that he wants to avoid his family and former friends for fear of being recognized. Still, though, I'd think there'd have been some sort of foreshadowing if Amon was going to be a significant character like that. We'd likely have met or learned about Bumi and his problems, if discreetly, via flashbacks, conversation, or something. What would presumably be a big, emotional reveal of his identity won't have much impact if he's someone we haven't met and know virtually nothing about.

That said, I admit that I haven't been paying especially close attention to Amon so far. As stated, he hasn't really done anything to catch my interest. So I may easily have missed something. Is there any evidence linking Amon to Bumi?

There is no exact evidence that points directly to Amon being Bumi, but a connection can be made on an interpretation of what we already know.
