Asylum's Battleship Rip Off

The Asylum, the company behind such rip-offs as "Transmorphers" and "Snakes on a Train," are back with a rip-off of the upcoming "Battleship" movie. Their version is called "American Battleship" and stars Carl Weathers (Rocky, Predator) and Mario Van Peebles.

Plot: When a fleet of mysterious ships wage war against the Earth, only the crew of the USS Iowa, the last American battleship, can prevent global Armageddon.

The new movie is directed by Thunder Levin (Mutant Vampire Zombies from the Hood) and is set to appear stores and VOD on May 15th, only two days before Peter Berg's "Battleship" hits theaters.

Though the Battleship movie is pretty ridiculous on its own, I agree. Though I give them props for not making a movie about a foggy naval battle with two commanders in rooms aboard their aircraft carriers barking coordinates for their fleets to shoot at. Absurd is better than boringly faithful to the game.

Actually, I would have really loved to see that concept done well. It could have been like Run Silent, Run Deep sent topside.

I would have been more interested if this movie were a more faithful adaptation of the board game, just to dick around with everyone. Instead, I'll only take one alien-riddled adaptation of that board game this summer, thank you very much.
