At least this one won't be another like Stormbreaker or Eragon where the first one sucks, tanks and the rest don't get released.

I just saw this with my family and it's a okay movie. I don't think it's a bad movie but I feel like it could have been better. The movie had no character development seeing that we hardly know any of these characters. I didn't feel for them at all, not even for the rich people in the movie since I was told that they look stupid because you are supposed to hate them. Also, does this movie take place in the future or another Planet because they explain how this whole thing started in the first place? The CG was not very good neither since those Dog's look awful and the CG shots of the city look very fake looking.

Overall I give the movie at least a 6.5/10, I did like the action scenes in the movie though.

You probably would've liked it better if you'd read the book. The movie was overall a good adaptation, but they were forced to cut out some rather important plot details and character-defining moments because of time constraints.

It takes place in a future version of North America, after a series of natural disasters killed off much of humanity. The Capitol is located in the Rockies, and District 12 is in the Appalachians.

Speaking of which, I did enjoy the movie. I thought the actors did a good job with the material they were given, though, as I said, they could've been given more to work with. The movie could've used Katniss's narration, too. That would've helped a lot, in my opinion. Didn't care for the camerawork. Other than that, though, it was pretty good.

I never read the book, but I think a movie based on a book should enjoyable for both fans and non-fans. I feel like that's the whole point on doing a movie that is made for a wider audience. I remember I saw Lord of the Ring's before I read the book and at least I care for the characters and understand what was going on.

I'm actually a little surprised, a lot of newspapers I saw kept repeating the gist of the plot over and over, as if trying to make sure evryone knew what was going on. Sorry man, I guess it never got round to ya.

What a piece of shit, the only skreeonk good part of that abomination of a movie were the T.V. booth scenes during the games. The Cornucopia is Gold, not this bullshit solar panel. And Thresh killed Clove with a rock, not by giving her STS (Shaken Tribute Syndrome). Also, there is no way in god damn hell that Peeta could make that great of a camouflage in the arena. The 2nd and 3rd books show a little more promise if Collins can stay truer to her own skreeonk work than to Hollywood-ize it.

Looks like another "Pretty White Kids with Problems" shit flick to me, but who knows...
(Credit to MAD TV for their spoof.)

I havent really LOVED a mainstream film for many years...with the odd exception. Too many re-hashes and CG-ridden 're-imaginings'.
(Though many have been grand: Dawn of the Dead, Rise of the Apes, and even Straw Dogs, to a degree, though that kid was NO Dustin Hoffman!)

Lol, he smashed her head against a solid steel structure. Several times. That's gonna knock anyone out cold at the very least. Or, for someone her size, fracture her skull or cause a nasty hemorrhage.

I also fail to see how a movie could suck just because the Cornucopia is the wrong color. That's like saying Harry Potter movies suck because Hermione's teeth are the wrong size.

The movie is pretty good. It suffers from a lack of steady-cam shots (and so many cuts in fight sequences!!!) and a lack of characterization of the principle antagonist. Otherwise it was engrossing and well-acted.

To me the kids in this just look fake. And you just know they're gonna release the last movie in two halfs like Harry Potter, Twlight and The Hobbit.

Well The Hobbit and Harry Potter have a good reason to have the last movie in two halfs. I hear that Twlight could have ended just fine with one movie, but it seem like the studio wanted to be in two halfs to keep the series longer.

Just noticed this post, but it seems like you're REALLY hung up and bent out of shape over superficial changes from the source material. Are you new to reading? Filmmakers often take quite a few liberties when adapting literature to film, especially with relatively inconsequential details. Can't you judge the film on its own merit if it's at least true in spirit to the original material, setting aside differences in color of items and particular methods of death?

I think that a movie based on a book should stand out on it's own as opposed to relying on the viewers having reading the book previously. No point on marketing your movie to a wild audience if most of them never read the book. Look at The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, A Clockwork Orange, Psycho, Strangers on a Train, Fight Club, the Exorcist, etc. I've never read them but they work fine without the viewer reading the book. Not to mention they handle the characters and story much better which is something that Hunger Games fails at in my opinion.

Those commercials are like, 2 minutes at maximum. I'm sure 2 minutes of your life isn't worth getting that much asspain over.

I thought it was pretty good. There were a lot of changes, but pretty much all were minor. I saw it as a good compliment to the book.

The movie was bloody awesome. Probably one of the most faithful adaptations I've read.
