I still feel like an anomaly in disliking this. Maybe I should give it another shot?

Nah, there's definitely a group that didn't think much of this film. I recommend another shot (especially with it being a short movie) but if you don't like it, you don't like it. It's not like it was universally loved. :)

I definitely reccommend taking another shot. This definitely nailed my top 5 best movies of 2012 so far.

I'd say give it one more shot. If it doesn't impress you, then that's the end of it. If it does impress you, that's great.

I mean, it is a little forumaliac, it's not exactly a new idea...Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, but I sympathize with him.
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

It doesn't need to be a new idea though. As long as its a great idea, people will forgive the film if its not original.

Personally, I think Chronicle is quite original. I can't think of any other movie like it.

It takes a lot from Akira among other films.

But very few ideas--if any--are truly original anyway. This film synthesizes pieces of old ideas nicely, and that's what usually counts.

Funny you'd say give this a shot, but you wont watch the Blade Runne Final Cut.

OT:
I dug it. I found myself rather intrigued by the story. Im glad it didnt turn into some super dramatic CGI fest final battle between Drew and Matt. Sure, it was a good fight but it wasnt like Hancock or Matrix with tornades and kung fu. I agree with whoever said it above, Akira was DEFINETLY an influence for this film.

The movie did alot right - it didnt stray into a love story or triangle between Drew, Matt and the girl. You could emphasize with Drew and his home life and school bullying skreeonk him up and every character was loveable (to a degree). I hope a sequel isnt made, but maybe a side-quel about the device skreeonk some other people up..

Personally: 4/5
Critically: 3.5/5

I saw it back when it first came out. I liked it. To me, this is to superhero movies, what "Cloverfield" was to giant monster movies.

It breaks down the 'Hero vs Villain' concept to it's most basic. If you have super powers, how do you use them? When Andrew 'dis-assembled' the spider, I saw the 'writing on the wall' - a person with a good heart would've let it go. When Andrew described himself as an 'apex predator', all bets were off. His cousin simply went on with his life, & did not use his power against others. He only used his power when he saw what Andrew had become.

A lot of us in this forum can probably relate. A lot of us here are probably of above-average intelligence. I know I am. The aptitude tests I took in high school & the Army entrance tests proved that I am smarter than 8 out of 10 people. Simple fact. But I do not spend my time hurting or taking advantage of people, nor would I want to. Only if my life/well-being were threatened - or those of my family/friends - would I consider harming anyone. I believe it is wrong to simply cause harm as a matter of course.

If I had 'super powers', I may use them for my own personal gain, but NOT if it resulted in harm to others. And if I could use them to help others, I would.

I don't see Andrew as a villian. He's viciously bullied at school, his cousin who's supposed to be his friend wasn't always there for him, his dad is an alcoholic scab, and his mother died. Oh, and let's not forget how his dad blames him for his mother's death. It's clear that he's disturbed and convinced that the entire world is out to get him. So he feels his powers grant him the ability to get back at the world.

He's not a villian. He's a tragic character.

Blade Runner had three chances to impress me already and didn't deliver. Blade Runner is just not the movie for me.

If you watch a film one time and are not impressed, but hear people constantly saying good things about it, then it probably deserves a second chance. If it still doesn't impress you, it's probably hopeless. If you view it a third time for good measure (or to put the issue to bed), then it's entirely hopeless.

...The what?

Seriously, I've never heard of that movie. So that statement means nothing to me. I still say Chronicle is fresh.

The only reason I know about this movie is because of shamelessly wiki-stalking Neve Campbell.

Nope. Why would I have heard of it?

Just showing the cover doesn't tell me anything about the film, nor does it suddenly mean what I said about Chronicle has been disproved.

Also, that cover is shit. Looks like a bad Lifetime Original movie.
