Apes don't have to have alot of numbers they are 5 to 15 times stronger than an adult human male and at our intellgence all they have to do is take over one major city or millitary base which if I'm not mistaken is on treasure island.

i know i missed the LotR thing by a page, but as a fan of both the books and the movies, the only really major "nit-pick" i have with the movies was the potrayal of sauron as floating eyeball. gollum said (in the books) that sauron had 4 fingers on one of his hands, strongly implying he had a body of some kind. how the heck is "the eye" even using the seeing stone lol? a better portrayal of sauron could've been a withered looking figure sitting on a throne in the dark tower, holding the seeing stone, glowering into it. the eye could've worked as he way ppl percive him using it. i'm okay with almost all the other changes they made, after all it is a visual medium lol

annnnyways on topic, i actually loved the very first apes movie, didn't care for the sequals or the reboot. i'll probably wait for it to go to dvd and check it out, tho i hear it's getting decent reviews

The credits kinda explain it. Remember the airline pilot? He started to bleed, he was infected. The credits show a map of where his plane went, wherever it landed, more lines started off to other cities, infecting the whole world.

Then the intelligent apes just lived on and reproduced. Maybe they got to other continents, maybe not. After all, we know that in the original, the guy landed in America (the Statue of Liberty at the end). I know this may not be the same series, but you get the idea.

There's no proof in the original POTA films that apes expanded to cover the entire globe. Or even in the 2001 film.

IOW, 'So this is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whisper'. We wiped ourselves out. The apes will spread & take over. Hence, the title of the movie.............

I think it is safe to say they conquered the entire world in the Burton film, considering the ending :p

Also, they get the whole world in the original book, as they are more advanced than men on it.
