Um, they're all just movies. Some are well-made, some aren't. TDKR is a skreeonk mess. I'm glad that you/the majority are enjoying it, but don't belittle others for having a greater critical eye than yourself.

*different critical eye

Perceiving more faults does not necessarily mean having greater critical insight.

Yeah, and what I see as faults may not be faults at all in the eyes of someone else, so you're right.

I just noticed a lot of fans of the film claiming that the harsher critics are somehow exaggerating the films' flaws, which I generally don't think is true.

There are most certainly a set of people who are far more qualified to take on a critical role as a viewer than others (ie. most people aren't qualified to make an informed critical opinion).

I'm not arguing against that necessarily, but merely having more complaints about a film does not indicate that the complainer has a better critical eye. Think back to the Prometheus thread--I seem to remember you arguing against some complaints certain posters had about the film. A lot of those complaints were, in my view, misunderstandings of the film or things that ultimately weren't important to the film's success as a creative work.

Being more critical of things can make one seem more discerning and of more refined taste, but that isn't always the case. And even people trained in critical analysis perceive flaws differently. Tymon got what I was saying.

I wish I could heal from a stab wound in two seconds just like Batman.

Movie had neat visuals and little else.

ok, so it only took my a month to finally see this (woohoo for date night with the wife!) . I am not the worlds #1 batman fan by any means, but I REALLY wanted to enjoy this film. I dont know if my tastes are changing or what but.... Back in May I saw the Avengers & It was great. The right mix of serious action, and fun. I expected TDKR to be gritty and dark. It was enjoyable for the most part, but I found Bane at times to be laughable. Dont get me wrong, it was worlds better than his portrayal in B&R 1997, but I still couldn't understand half his dialogue, and when he went high pitched I had to bite my lip not to laugh in the theater.

After a thorough watch (in IMAX no lees) I can safely say The Dark Knight Rises is the silliest Batman film since Batman & Robin. No kidding, it is.

I never believed Nolan's world to be as verisimile as said. True the stunts were more restrained and were granted credibility by their means of execution. There were smaller things that blew up this perception. This third installment takes things to a whole new level. What's amazing though, this doesn't come as a result of the filmmakers embracing its comic book material, rather it seems like a backfire for trying to push the stakes too high. Not to say I didn't enjoy it; this is a badass film, loaded with exciting visuals, acting and music. But still, nobody can say it's more belivable than previous Batman films. Oh, and Bane, I enjoyed his character quite a bit; he's not however, closer to the comics than his 1997 incarnation. I'd go as far as saying he doesn't have much in common with the source character besides the superhuman strengh and prison origin.

This so much. There are a fair number of so called critics around here that this applies to.

^Most critics can't help the fact that they're extremely critical, myself included. I see huge flaws in even my most cherished works of fiction.

There's nothing wrong with being critical on the films that one watches. If anything, it opens up ones eyes to all sorts of new horizons and ideas, as well as introduces them to movies they probably would have never watched otherwise, yet are still better than most of the other movies they were watching. Really, it's just another way of looking at movies.

I enjoy critically analyzing the movies I watch nowadays. It lets me determine which films deserve to be watched and which ones should be ignored and forgotten. Doing this is fun, and I think I'm pretty damn good at it (three years of film school helps too). Do I think my opinions are superior to others, just because I'm critical to everything? No, I don't think my opinions are superior at all. Nor are they inferior. We're all free to agree or disagree with any opinion that we want to, wether they're being critical or not.

I did. I thought it was flawed, but still highly enjoyable. IMO, it's weakest of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, but its still a good watch in its own right.

I thought it was awesome. Definitely best of 2012, right up there with Avengers and Hunger Games.

This (and your post before this one). It's a strong 8/10 for me, but BB was a notch better and TDK better than that (IMHO).

I found it enjoyable but, also very lackluster. The script was just sloppy.

So did I. I really enjoyed this movie: despite the flaws. Is it the best? No, but that doesn't distract from me enjoying the film.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

Or maybe people just aren't too into mediocrity.

I enjoyed this movie at times but as a whole found it lackluster.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. In fact, I enjoyed it the most out of all three. Sure, there are a few plot holes (well, maybe not so much out-right holes as conveniences), but people seem to ignore those present in TDK (which are actually pivotal, considering the entire Two-face portion of the movie hinges on these holes), so I'll ignore these.

Plus, y'know... Anne Hathaway.

I dug it. Maybe my favorite of the trilogy.

It was entertaining. And that's good enough for me. I will never understand why some people insist on nitpicking. Not saying I don't complain about things, but I don't go ON and ON about them either. I'll point something out if I feel the need to, then I'm done. No need for a multi-page argument about Bane breaking concrete.

Anne Hathaway in skin tight leather: yes please.

True. I found there are questionable things in all three movies but they aren't anything to get upset over. They are all enjoyable and all three are memorable to me in some way. Both BB and TDK I went to see them with my Dad, which I cherish now and more importantly TDK because that was the last movie he and I saw in the theater together before he died. I brought Mom to see TDKR and there were just one other person in the theater besides us (it was the noon showing on a Tuesday) and we both really got into the movie. It was the first action film she has watched since Dad died (Mom loves action movies).

There's my piece on why this trilogy is so memorable to me.
