I just love how everyone is questioning how they can keep the movies fresh and add to the Graboid lifecycle.
PEOPLE. This film is proposed to take place in AUSTRALIA, the continent in which every living natural residential organism is nothing like their cousin across the pool and is deadlier than sin! That alone should give some idea that these Graboids may very well be different and more dangerous from the reptilian (SyFy fails biology forever) whatsits that terrorize the American west.
The sheer idea of Australian!Shriekers alone is enough to keep me awake at night in terror.

Austrialian fauna is just venomous usually, the only thing that is really radically changed is the mammilian life as most of it is marsupial the only real oddity in Australian fauna is the platypus.
Then again they could give us Dilphosaurus esque Shriekers that spit a paralyzing toxin at prey.
