Well, what else are you going to do? He took what was set up in the first film and expanded upon it. He treated the Alien in a matter of fact way because we had already seen it before. Of course marines are going to shoot a lot of them up. But the thing is that there are so many of them. No matter how many you kill they'll keep coming at you. I think that makes up for settling on an individual creature.
