Alien (1979)

Postby Tyler » Thu Aug 05, 2010 9:33 pm

I'm gonna start a new series where we go from the original Alien (1979) all the way to the reboot Predators (2010). I'll try to make one a day, so here we go.

Image

I think this film is a masterpiece. Really one of the greatest movies ever made. First time I saw it I was so creeped out. I had never seen some of the stuff presented in front of us. Anytime I saw a dark corner I thought an Alien was curled up and about to attack me... it's good when a horror film does that to you. Keep in mind I was pretty young.

Up next: Aliens (1986)

Like you I think the film is a masterpiece though it's not my favorite in the series of Alien/Predator/AvP films it's at the top but Aliens surpasses it.

The first time I saw it was from a copy of the film my friend recorded off of USA I want to say I watched it in my parents room since at the time I didn't have a VCR in my room and my mom ran a little daycare so the little kids where in the living room. The only scenes I really jumped at where the face-hugger scene and the scene where Dallas is looking for the burster in the ducts other than that I was just tense because it was my first time seeing it.

Still a brilliant film 31 years later.

What is their to say about this movie other then it's the perfect horror movie to me. Everything about the movie is mind blowing. Giger's artwork, the build up, the characters, and the score. Everything about the movie is perfect to me.

Best in the series, and one of my top 5 favorite movies.

One of Ridley Scott's finest. The suspense is enough to break you at some parts of the film. My only complaint was that the alien looked...too bulky and slow.

One of the series's best. The suspense is great and the Alien is truly terrifying.

Too bulky? I don't see anything wrong with Giger's Alien. It sure looks a lot better then the other designs in the series like Grid and the ones from A:R.

Yeah, the guy who played the original Alien was SKINNY. None of the Alien designs really bother me, although I prefer a smooth dome over ridges and I felt the Predalien didn't need dreadlocks. But that's for later.

I would agree it's one of the greatest sci-fi/horror films ever made and look forward to buying the collectors edition blu-ray set the end of October. Oh, and I was 15 when it was released in '79...good thing we ate after the movie or my dinner would have been left behind on the theater floor. I did enjoy watching my step-mother squirm throughout the film.

I loved this movie. Alien is much bigger and stands out more than in later films.

Alien to me is a very good film. However, I didn't really like the ending of the film which I'm not going to spoil. 8/10.

Just my preference. Looked too cumbersome, especially during the final scene when it was wriggling around in those pipes...

If I had to choose between Alien and the whole rest of the AVP franchise (films and related merchandise) put together, I would choose Alien. It made #3 on my list of favorite movies (beaten out only by Jaws and The Godfather). I cannot praise it enough. I have no preference between the two cuts of the film and watch them both frequently.

I tend to find alien dreadfully boring.

I only find one or two scenes scarey and it always bothered me how they ignored the Spacey Jockey and they whole alien aspect there.

I can see why it's such a great film. But it's just no longer my taste.

Wow, I never thought these talkback threads would become so annoying...

Good movie, though.
