Yes, I have. Most anime nowadays blows. It's not even deep, it's just some anime with a twist on political or social sattire, tits, swords and explosions.

I remember when anime was art, and not about benjamins.

Akira
Wings of Honneamise
Big Wars
Venus Wars
Roujin Z
Yotoden
Suikoden
Doomed Megatropolis
A Wind Named Amnesia
Peacock King

Ugh so many animes nowadays are just crap compared to these..

I used to like Naruto. But after Sasuke left, it became total bullshit to me.

Sooooooooooooooo, who here has heard of Burst Angel?

Actually since I started Tokusatsu, I haven't been interested in anything besides old school anime. Just seems anime isn't as entertaining as toku.

That and for me anime was like a highschool. I look back on a lot of series I liked at the time, and can't figure out what I saw then.

The problem with anime nowadays, is that it's huge over here so money is flowing and artists arent really 'pushed' like they were back in the day. Shit, you could read Toriyama's author notes in every volume and he was sick or stressed or working 20 hour days.

So far, I've been only watching my favorites. Like movies, I don't really watch all of anime, just portions that interest me.

I used to like Naruto until the whole time skip story happen and I got bored with it. It seem like the story got worst as it went on. Same with Bleach, it started off good but end up being crap. In Bleach, it seems like Tite Kubo always give out a random deus ex machina out of his ass for Ichigo.

I haven't watch that much newer anime in a while. I tend to stick with older anime since I enjoy them more. Most newer anime always to go with fan service then story from what I've seen. Same with newer cartoons now since they always done with CG instead of hand drawn like Clone Wars and the new Green Lantern cartoon series for example.

70's until the early 90's where the best age of Anime if you ask me.

Same here, new stuff is bull, After Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, All I care for is for classics. One Piece is another exception.

The problem is that anime is like everything else in that 90% of what comes out each year is garbage. Then smaller percentages are decent but unoriginal, good but with some faults, great but not the best, etc. So it's rare (maybe one show per year or every few years) that we see a truly great anime that can stack up against classics.

It does happen, though, but you kind of have to be patient and keep your ear to the ground to hear about them.

I'm under the belief that Guilty Crown will become one of the great anime. Mirai Nikki has good potential as well.
And I wasn't really saying "new" anime bores me. Just that the ones that are new to me are boring me. Most of, if not all of my favorite anime have been released in the past 10 years, with the majority probably being in the last 5 years. But I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that gets bored like this. Lol

I could just be biased on that though. Especially since some of the people that made Code Geass are working on Guilty Crown. And it also has Inori.

I've been trying to watch some of the semi mech based anime's on Netflix, none of which seem to hold my interest. Full Metal Panic & Vandread are my latest attempts. I'm about 5 episodes into each, nothing really spectacular so far. Also have been watching subbed episodes of Gundam Age online. Anime really needs another Super Robot revival soon!

I'm reading two hero manga I think are interesting. Ratman and Heroman. I also like Dance in the Vampire Bund, Super Dreadnought Girl, Rosario+Vampire, and To Love Ru Darkness.

Well hopefully if it is going to claim to be a Mecha series, hopefully the Mechas will be in it for more than like 2 minuets per episode. The "Mission Impossibe" feel gets old after a while. We have a protagonist who has to keep a girl alive for some secret she has in her head, that she dosen't know about, and he likes to touch her boobs inadvertantly.

Sounds too much like so many other teen angst anime's. What ever happened to just plain awesome robot battles??

Greetings All,

In my attempt to purge as many VHS as I can and convert to DVD, I now turn my attention towards the 1990's Guyver 12 episode OVA series. I have had for years my VHS copies which I rented and copied for myself on VHS from the original US Renditions VHS.

However I read on the internet that when Manga Ent. Put these on DVD, that they removed the original opening sequence, redubbed some of the voices, and edited the last episode (#12) which makes it almost unwatchable. I just want to know from a source that perhps owns these DVD's if this is true? If no copies of the original version that US renditions released exist on DVD, then I guess I'll have to transfer them nyself, but I wanted to get any thoughts before I decide to purchae/not purchase the set Manga Ent. released on DVD.

I do have the Manga Entertainment DVDs, IIRC they did remove the original opening sequence and redub some of the voices. Can't tell ya anything about the last episode since I haven't watched it recently and I don't have the dvds with me currently. Honestly, I'd just go ahead and transfer them if your VHS tapes are in good condition or at least watchable.
