Django Unchained

Supposedly Quentin Taratino (Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds)'s next film will be based on the 1966 film Django by Sergio Corbucci. I've never seen that film, but I have seen Takashi Miike's version Sukiyaki Western Django (2007), in which Tarantino played a role. It was... something. Makes me curious about the original.

So what do you think? Tarantino's last film was "inspired" by a past movie so is this what he's gonna do from now on? Just do his take on old movies? I mean, he's always kind of done this, but now he's making it even more apparent.

Very strange for him to state that he prefers making his own unique movies, yet turn around and make adaptations of certain films. I guess even his preferences change after a while.

Django has kind of an interesting history in that it AT LEAST fifty unauthorized sequels (copyright laws were sketchy or something in Italy at the time). It's very Tarantino to continue on in that tradition.

It's a very solid Spaghetti Western. About a dude who drags around a coffin that has a MACHINE GUN in it. I highly recommend it to everyone interested in the genre. But be warned, it's very dirty (seriously, there is mud everywhere. Everything is just covered in gross awful mud).

I'm very pumped for this. Will Smith playing "Django" and Christopher Waltz playing (what sounds like) a Col. Mortimer type of a character? Sign me up. I'm very interested in seeing how this pans out.

Kevin Costner is set to play a role in the movie.

Looks like Kevin Costner is plan to make a comeback with this and Man of Steel. He really went down hill with The Postman back in 1997. I can't think the last time that he has been in a major film.

Okay, I see this needs ressurecting:

First, the official facebook is up for the film. Show your love and like it!
http://www.facebook.com/#!/djangounchainedfilm

Second, (and I think this is a definite plus) Kevin Costner has been replaced with Kurt Russel. Seriously, this film is hauling some major star power. Let me quote the list from wikipedia:
Jamie Foxx as Django
Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin Candie
Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz
Kerry Washington as Broomhilda
Samuel L. Jackson as Stephen
Kurt Russell as Ace Woody
Sacha Baron Cohen as Scotty Harmony
Laura Cayouette as Lara Lee Candie-Fitzwilly
Don Johnson as Spencer 'Big Daddy' Bennett
Tom Savini as Ellis Brittle

Third, there are some pictures having been released. Only one is truly impressive, mostly because of Christoph's costume:

The original Django is an absolute blast. I wasn't sure how to feel about this project but the first few photo stills have me pumped to see what QT will do with this. That "Sukiyaki Django" really has nothing on the original Franco Nero cult classic. That is the one to see.

Trailer's out, but I wouldn't trust it. The trailers for Inglourious Basterds were very deceiving. Could be wrong though.

How many movies have ripped off the Taxi Driver sliding sleeve gun?

My immediate thought was it as an homage to the old sixties show Wild Wild West. It's not something Taxi Driver cooked up, I'm quite positive it's something that has always been around in fiction.

But the trailer was bawlin'.

It's being released officially tomorrow. Critics are giving it generally positive reviews, and I'm psyched to see it. Anyone else going to the theaters this Christmas?

I'd like to see this as Tarantino is a superb director and was the director behind two of my all time favorites (Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill saga). Sadly I probably won't get to it in theaters.

It's not necessarily a change in preference. Just because he prefers to make his own unique movies would not mean he's completely opposed to ever adapting any source material ever, be it a movie, book, etc. I prefer bacon to sausage patties but I've been known to order the latter every now and then at Perkins, lol.

Saw it a couple of hours ago. I loved it and it was a complete blast! It's long, but I really don't feel like anything needs to be cut out. Awesome characters, great writing/dialogue, cinematography, music, gun fights. One of the top movies of the year for me. Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Samuel L Jackson all turn in wonderful performances.

This guy does the best reviews.

Plenty of blood. Nearly forgot that when I went into the theater, and I came out shaken. The movie conveys so much in its three-hour run time (give or take) and at times I did feel sick to my stomach. If you can handle the blood, you're in for some badass shootouts and some memorable deaths (Quentin, smile for the camera!). DiCaprio, Foxx, and the rest of the cast turned in some memorable performances. The heroes were likable, the villains like skreeonk Jackson were despicable. Great chemistry, and brilliant dialogue. I found a lot of the humor, such as the plan for the raid, to be successful, if not a little random and quirky. I give this movie 9/10 personally, 8/10 critically. Point deducted for insane blood-spillage and gruesome scenes of brutality.

Watch at your own discretion

Atleast from the critical standpoint, you would stil deduct a point even though the violence falls right in line with every other Tarantino film??

Eh, a little personal bias seeped through. My apologies. I'm not use to that kind of violence in movies.
