A Bump for Mr. mecha-gino. Feel free to discuss all the newness. The new characters, the new "Voltron configuaratons", and of course Lotor's newest combining Robeast!.

Well I'm bumping this because of my new discovery: Now the first Voltron series I've know for a while was on Netflix and maybe vehicle Voltron too BUUUUUT I discovered today that both Voltron and third dimension and Voltron Force are now on Netflix as well! I'm totally going to start checking out the episodes of Force I missed right after I'm done with G.I. Joe.

So yeah, now you can choose which sequel series you would prefer to watch too.

I’ve known about these for a few weeks,. I’m not a huge fan of either incarnation, but my kids love them. We just finished V3D, and are rewatching FORCE now since new episodes just ended on Nicktoons a couple of months ago.

But after watching both of these, you know what I miss? Robeasts. Despite WEP efforts to portray these as non living machines, any kid with half a brain could figure out from the original series (and no doubt after watching Golion), that these were all alive, and Voltron destroyed them. But even if they were just machines, why were the ones on V3D and FORCE for the most part lame.

V3D had Dracotron (Voltron but with Dragons), and that’s about it, every other Robeast was a lame robot, or some sort of malformed Dinosaur. And why do they ALL scream like Jurassic Park Raptors?? Is that the only sound effect they could afford? Even Dominus, who I thought was cool 14 years ago, was a big let down. Voltron didn’t try to fight it, of course because it was a “living creature”…whatever.

As for Voltron Force, I guess the Spider/Lion Robeast they had in the beginning was ok, and The Predator Robeast, which again was a variation of Voltron. I just wish they would have more in the line of Giant monsters. The original Voltron had some pretty hideous beasts. I’m hoping “if” Force gets a second season they might get creative with their Robeasts and try something new. They created CG renders of the first Two from the original Voltron, so they have the capacity, I just wonder if they have the imagination to do so.

With the San Diego Comic Con this weekend, we should get some news as to when/if Force will get a second season. My guess is that it will because I have a feeling that some sort of toys are going to be revealed… and why have toys to promote a show no longer in existence. There might be a 1 year lapse between seasons, but I have a feeling it’s going to happen.

Now here’s an additional topic for discussion- which variation of Voltron is Worse—Stealth Voltron from V3D, or the feature in Voltron Force where any Lion can become the Head/Body.?

And I'll get to those questions.... Later, haha.

So has anyone beside me been checking out Dynamite Entertainment's Voltron book? I like it, granted there should be more Voltron vs Robeast action but I kind of like the origins of Zarkon and how the lions came to be and stuff. The art is passable but I wish they got the guy who did Devil Due's Voltron instead for art as he was fantastic. The Alex Ross covers are of course beautifully made and stuff.

Now onto issue six and seven and beware, there's spoilers. We finally got Voltron back, the day is saved, we learn a little more about Zarkon but we're also treated to a big plot twist. Arus and Planet Doom appear to not have been fighting a universal war but rather... A multiversal one, as it's been revealed by Zarkon that earth hasn't been the first/as important as they thought when Arus appeared to help them as he's seen them done before when Zarkon became Zarkon. He says he at least saw four or five different voltroms and YES! Vehicle Voltron makes a cameo. Then with issue seven which is a flashback to a few hours ago to now comic, we're on the moon and one of the Voltrons are attacking it for some reason but what's interesting is it's not Vehicle Voltron or any we've seen before but rather a lion Voltron that makes a Samurai Voltron instead. It's really cool looking and it has two blazing katanas.

So yeah, love the Voltron comics so far and this new arc will really have me all hyped up for the next issue.

They may be somewhat off topic, but is GoLion worth checking out? I remember hearing that Voltron takes stock footage from GoLion and edited it into Voltron. I still remember renting Voltron on VHS when I was a kid sometime during the mid 90's and I remember enjoying it. I have a feeling it holds up badly as a adult now.

It holds up as well as G1 transformers, classic G.i. Joe, and the original TMNT series so it all depends on you. I still enjoy though the edits are quite noticeable.

I do find it kind of funny as I'm told Golion was show at night in Japan and was intended for teens with it's violence, or so I'm told.

But discussing Golion isn't really going off topic as say talking about Sentai in a power rangers topic. I think the Golion DVDs are out of print so you may have trouble finding them. I never seen it but from the morbid/twisted humor of that trailer WEP put together, yeah... It's VIIIOOOOLLLEEEENNNT!

I think I can find a cheap copy of GoLion on Half.com and I think I might re-watch the original Voltron show if I feel nostalgic for it. I do remember hearing that GoLion is a pretty good show, most people told me that they finds it weak compare to the Nagahama Robot Romance trilogy though.

I have all of Giolion & Dairugger XV on DVD. Just to be clear they are very different from what was edited down to create the original Voltron series. The original Voltron is still fun to watch, and by far superior to the more recent remakes. Giolion & Dairugger however are very different. They feel nothing like Voltron when watching them, and yes they are quite violent, but since they are super-robot series from the early 80's they are still classics and I find them highly enjoyable.
