On a related note, anyone see the third Robot Chicken Star Wars special that aired just last night?

The EU is canon, and pretty much all of its canon expect for several of the Marvel SW comics since Marvel no longer have the rights to Star Wars.

Something I found at Cracked: The TIE Fighter pilot that saved the day! No really, this actually happened in ep 4:

My friends and I have been joking about that guy for years.

I especially love how he shouts "Look Out!" before he crashes strait into Vader.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Lucasart's official policy is that everything in the EU is canon unless specifically stated otherwise. Like the whole Force Unleashed series vs the "What if" comic where Yoda crashes the Death Star into Endor...with Palpatine still in it(epic moment was epic). Force Unleashed is canon because no one has come out to claim it's not while the aforementioned comic has AU practically stamped all over it.

This runs into several problems when the EU contradicts itself. And then when the movies and the EU contradict each other. I believe official Lucas policy when it comes to these things is "shut up and give us your money, proles". Ergo Star Wars continuity is a messy, messy thing.

Also, best damn moment in the entire saga IMO:

Since Lucas is the end-all-be-all of anything SW until he dies choking on a doughnut on his Skywalker Ranch, anything EU is up for non-canonization.

So it's safer to say it's not canon, then is.

Star Wars continuity is a mess. The three step approach is frustrating. However, I just really pay attention to what I want to. Ignore the stuff that I dont really have interest in.

Rewatching that clip reminded me of how powerful Vader's redemption really was. I remember cheering the first time I watched that scene when I was like 5.

You can just ignore Episode 2, 3, all the EU stuff post Ep 1 to just before ANH and be happy

Actually, the continuity guys (They hire people solely to manage the SW universe) are currently working to canonize the Marvel comics.

If you put your mind to it, the whole SW canon/non-canon thing can make total sense, I know at least one guy who's pretty good with it. However, I for one am a lazy bastard and the only EU I really make note of is the Thrawn Trilogy, the original Clone Wars series, and... that's about it really.

On another note, is there any fanboy of Darth Tyrannus in existence? 'Cause I have never seen one person say ever "holy f**k Christopher Lee's guy is da pwnzorz!" I'm not talking about just here, but anywhere on the internet. :? Do most fans have an issue with DT or something?

First off, Star Wars doesn't leave the galaxy. Second, the Sith are far from defeated. There are tons of them. All over. There are two more Galactic Empires after RotJ. Palpatine is even the one who is basically responsible for saving the galaxy. Without the militarization of the Empire, the galaxy would have fallen to the Yuzan Vong even faster than they almost did.

Assuming you give a shit about anything other than the 6 movies.

I sure don't. And I don't really care if Lucas says any of it is canon. It's the movies that matter to me, nothing more.

That's like saying "I like Heisei Godzilla because he never dies! Because I'm ignoring Godzilla vs Destoroyah because I don't like it!"

Which is silly.

No, most fans just love Maul way more.

Personally I've always found Tyranus badass.

No, not really. I don't think anyone should be penalized for just wanting to accept the six live action feature films as canon and not the multitude of Expanded Universe stuff that's out there. I know lots of people who are like that.

Your example makes no sense.

I don't see why people make such a big deal about the Star Wars canon, Lucas pretty much said that nearly everything in the EU is canon. I find it annoying when people compare the Star Wars canon to the Dragon Ball canon.

But as someone who is really only interested in the movies I find it's asking way too much for someone to be familiar with all that outside media to fully "understand" Star Wars canon.

Additionally, of course Lucas is going to say this stuff is canon. He wants people to buy it. I have very little respect for the greedy, flannel-wearin' psycho.

Thus, you're ignoring the rest of the canon because of your own self-admitted bias.

Not saying you have to know everything about everything in the diegetic universe. But you can't act like it's not part of the story. Most people just enjoy the six films (some hipster pricks ony enjoy three) without giving a rat's ass about anything in the EU. That's fine. Just don't bitch and whine when people bring up stuff from the EU that's canon. Because, whether you like it or not, it happened.

EU is only canon until Lucas decides it's not.

Someone can write 6 novels based on a line of events and Lucas could just retcon it out and boom - no longer canon.

What it comes down to is - EU is better. Fin.
