I was already imagining a scene where the Apatosaurus transforms into Keizer Ghdidorah and whoops the T-rex, who turns into a Skyrim dragon and beats him eventually. Now THAT would make the movie completly.

Gigli-A fun gangster film starring Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck. It is IMO an enjoyable film. Its not a godawful film. Besides it also has Christoper Walken in it. The acting was pretty solid

Score: 8.5/10

To me, this doesn't deserve the hate that it gets. People who hate it do so to be cool because everyone else hates it. Those people wanna run with the herd who hate this film.

I took some time to catch up on some earlier 2012 films this weekend:

Journey 2-The Mysterious Island- I’ll start this off by saying, If I hadn’t seen the first film 3 years ago on a Cruise my wife and I were on, I probably would not have bothered with the sequel. But I rented it, and it seemed to be a big hit with our kids. As for me however- I’m not even going to try to compare it to the earlier film with effects by Ray Harryhousen. I liked that version, but this one is just so different. I think what annoyed me most was just the blatant staging of 3D. Of course one could argue that this was a film that was truly filmed in, and meant for 3D (Unlike most others just converted in post). But when you are bouncing berries off of The Rocks man-boobs, and they are coming at the screen, THAT is a little much. The plot seems forced. Teenage angst ridden kid rebels against his stepdad. Stepdad tries desperately to bond with his stepson. The Rock would have been convincing except for the fact that IRL this bonding, if it ever happens can take months, years, not just one event. But then again the movie is only 100 minutes. I guess it would have made more sense if they had started this film when the kid was 14 or 15, and give the “bonding” period a couple of years, so that when the events of this film transpire it would have been much more believable. The CG effects are good for what they are, but if you don’t have kids under the age of 10, you can probably pass on this film.

Wrath of the Titans-freed of the stigma of being attached to a previous Ray Harryhousen film, this sequel was a pleasant surprise, I enjoyed it thoroughly, enough to put it on my DVD wish list to buy. I found myself in a personal paradox with this film. Usually with any special interest I have, I like when a more serious approach is taken. However “Wrath” is arguably lighter than the first film and it benefits much from doing so, yet it never goes to the goofy extreme. The creature effects were well done (both CG and Practical). Perseus was a much more likable character in this film, but I guess having a son will do that too you, instead of being a jerk like he was in the first film. This film also had character I could grow to care about such as Argenon (Poseidon's son) and Haephestus(sp?) brilliantly portrayed by Bill Nyghy. The formula of the film was basically the same, but the stakes much higher (Perseus must ultimately obtain the “Maguffin” to slay the monster to save the world) this time instead of just Argos city. I would really like to see a 3rd enty in this series, but the way events turn out in the end, I don’t see how this could be done. I know it sounds cliché’, but I would love to see an “All-Stars” Greek myth for a 3rd film. If they could somehow incorporate Perseus into a Jason and the Argonauts story (which would also include Heracles) , that might be fun. I was not overly fond of the first film, but anyone who liked “Clash” (2010), should definitely see “Wrath” (2012)

I dug Wrath of the Titans. I bought it on BRD last Thursday. I liked at the end when Zeus and Hades just walked out and started pwning.

Escape from New York (1981) -
Still LOVE this film. I agree the deleted opening brings Snake down as a character. The 80s cast of actors is just so... perfect. Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau OMG!
Personally: 5/5
Critically: 3/5

Escape from LA (1996) -
Basically an updated version of Escape from New York. Couldve done without the hang gliders at the end and the sheer amount of canon fodder extra character deaths in the last 10 minutes is insane. I dug the music score more, but the bad-ass culty feel of the film was gone.
Personally: 3.5/5
Critically: 1.5/5

Get Him To The Greek (2009) -
HILLARIOUS! ZOMG. Russell Brand does so much better on film not writing his own schtick. I spent the entire 90 minutes dying of laughing. Jonas Hill is still boring. I dont know what he's going for though. The large amount of puking scenes got old fast. Sean P Diddy Combs was also funny as hell!
Personally: 4/5
Critically: 2.5/5

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides (2011) -
2nd viewing. Saw it first with my ex Jacque in 2011 so I was reluctant to watch it again. Movie started out well but the scale compared to the first three was small after leaving England. Needed ALOT more Spanards in it and I think Rush did his absolute best with the Barbossa writing but the character was written wrong. Charisma was just gone.
Personally: 3.5/5
Critcally: 3.5/5

Mars Needs Moms (2011) -
Didnt hold my attention as much as the first time. Actually found it hard to sit through the non-Martian parts. I can see why it flopped. Honestly some toys wouldve helped...
Personally: 2/5
Critically: 2/5

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance (2011) -
I still hold, that if you edited ALL the fight scenes and CGi from GR2 in place of all of GR1's fight and CGI scenes, GR would be ultimate fun. I think someone needs to do a fan edit. The ending though jumped the shark with the blue flames. I mean damn... he didnt have flames for like 30 years. Did he need flames NOW?! No
Personally: 3.5/5
Critically: 2.8/5

Mysterious Island

I haven't seen the movie for awhile, and enjoyed seeing the Harryhausen film again. The giant crab and Ammonite are well executed creatures.

Batman Begins - The first in the current Nolan trilogy, which I've decided to watch in full now in preparation for TDKR. Although outside stuff resulted in a negative viewing experience, the film itself was great. Ras al Ghul and Scarecrow were awesome villains and I only wish we'd seen more of the latter especially. I kind of would've rather moved the flashbacks to the front and gone in chronological order, because I didn't feel the flashbacks and frame story worked together as well as they could have, but it didn't damper my viewing, it was just something I personally felt. Most of the acting was great and well-done, although Katie Holmes was a little blander than her co-stars. Despite a little slow of a start, I really enjoyed the film. (4/5)

Shark Attack in the Mediterranean- somewhere between goofy, cheesy, and dumb. The shark graphics are pretty awesome though. They really belong in a better movie.

Ted (2012) -
OMG hillarious and I find most of Family Guy shit annoying. This is sorta like Family Guy-lite humor. Ok it's about a magically animated bear and his 30something best friend being roommates and doing stupid shit but it's BRILLANT. The movie doesnt dwell on Ted being a doll, but if you replaced him with a midget or just another dude, it wouldnt work. Sam J. Jones was amazing. Slightly more hardcore then Paul. Most importantly, Mark Wahlberg was ENJOYING himself in this movie
Personally: 5/5
Critically: 4/5

Mallrats (1995) -
Shoot me. Kevin Smith wrote a teen movie and it SUCCCKKKKEDD. It's so dated I wanna die. Odd how Clerks can hold up by Mallrats bites. Jay and Silent Bob were funny though. Rooker came off as... odd. Like he was high or something.
Personally: 1/5
Critically: 1/5

Batman Forever (1995) -
HA HAHAHAHAAHH! Kilmer sucks as Batman AND Wayne. O'Donnell seemed frustrated, Nichole was boring (basically she acted like a slut). Jones and Carey stole the spotlight but Carrey outshined Jones.
Personally: 2/5
Critically: 1/5

Flash Gordon (1980) -
A visual masterpiece. The music, the corny SPFX, the camp. It's just classic.
Personally: 4/5
Critically: 0/5

Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010) -
Ok I gave this movie another chance and it DID NOT disappoint. I dug the second showing more then the first, but I hate the comic.
Personally: 4.5/5
Critically: 4/5

Kick-Ass (2010) -
Still boring. Outside of Big Daddy and Hit Girl this movie is forgetable like anything Quesada does.
Personally: 2/5

The Hurt Locker. I was hoping a second viewing would make me appreciate the movie more, but this movie's take on the military completely ruins any attempt at me enjoying this film. The total inaccuracy of the military and those in it is quite literally ridiculous to anyone who knows even a beginner's amount of the discipline and protocol involved in day-to-day operations.

Then Phantom (1996) -
Billy "The Chin" Zane takes on his fanboy role of The Phantom in this retelling of Lee Falk's newspaper strip hero/adventurer. I actually dug the movie. It wasnt green screen corny like The Shadow (which I love too) or boring ass piss low-tech as Generation X. I wish the movie were actually a big longer and darker and Treat Williams WASNT in it. He's such a ham.
Personally: 4/5
Critically: 2.5/5

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) -
I hadnt watched this in awhile because I really dont want to get on a kick and read the 7 novels because I hear a few arent upto snuff with the first three. I used to be a hardcore Edmund fan but Im leaning more toward Lucy now. The CGI was insanely good and the acting was quite good for kiddies.
Personally: 4.1/5
Critically: 4/5

Then Phantom 2040 -
Not really a 'movie' but an editted 5 episode mini series movie. Peter Chung animates his spin off of The Phantom, in the future year 2040 as the reluctant Kit Walker, Jr takes over the mantle on is 18th birthday and battles Maximum Inc to save the environment. The animation is... odd at times. I blame the computerizaton of Chung's work over the streamline Aeon Flux work he did a couple years previous. This has to do with money. Leah Remini and Mark Hamill lend their voices. Enjoyable, but the animation makes it hard to watch long.

The Dark Knight Rises: Just got back from seeing it. I love it. To me, it was the perfect way to end the trilogy. The twists that were in it I enjoyed (I usually avoided spoilers). And I can relate to the anger that Officer Blake has. The scenes with Alfred actually had me tearing up. This is the third movie I've seen in theaters this summer (the most for me in a long time) and each one I've at least teared up (Avengers and MIB3). I must be more emotional lately. Mom went with me and she enjoyed it as well. Bane was hard to understand sometimes but not as much as people would have you believe.

Is it as good as TDK? I thought it was just as good. As a Batman fan I enjoyed the entire trilogy equally. However, I will say I can watch Begins more because TDK was so intense that I can't watch it back to back; even though I know what's going to happen.
Personally some of the things that people are harping about in all the movies, not just this one, don't bother me at all. 1. It's a movie. 2 It's a superhero movie. 3. No matter how realistic the filmmakers try to make the film: there are always things that stretch the reality of certain things. Sit back, and enjoy the ride. That's how I am about certain movies.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

Been a long time since I posted, so there are going to be a couple movies here.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012): This movie was a fine conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy. It was very entertaining and the acting was great. Anne Hathaway blew me away with her performance of Cat Woman. she nailed the part and was one of the most interesting characters in my opinion. My only complaints on the film was its length and the character Bane. I really disliked Bane and hated to watch scenes with him in it. I couldn't believe how happy I was to see him get his ass whooped by Batman towards the end along with his death executed by Cat Woman. I liked the Joker far better than Bane. In the end, it is just as good as the last film. 4.5/5

Wrath of the Titans (2012): wrath of the Titans was an improvement on the last film. The action scenes were superb and the plot involving the fall of the Greek gods was interesting. I was shocked to see all of the gods die except for Hades. I thought that Zeus should have survived at least. The cast is okay like the last movie. Andromeda was a far better lead woman than Io in the first film. 3/5

A Fistful of Dollars (1964): One of the first big spaghetti westerns staring Clint Eastwood, A Fistful of Dollars is a fun movie to watch. It is about an American gunslinger who goes to a town in Mexico to rid it of the two warring families that control it. As always, Clint Eastwood shoots faster and is more clever than all of his opponents. It isn't as good as The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, but it is a decent movie to watch at least once.
3/5

Despicable Me (2010): A good movie for kids definitely, but I didn't see what all the hype was about. The plot is of a basic structure with the usual twists in the plot. I am actually the first person out of all of my friends and family members to dislike the little yellow guys who are Gru's henchmen. Steve Carrel does some great voice-work here as Gru though. 2.5/5
