The Monster That Challenged the World (1957) - This film was pretty dang good. The suspense was great and the characters fared better than your typical 50s Sci-Fi, although payoff was a bit contrived and made me want to punch that little girl in the face.

Watched Star Trek:First Contact last night on Blu Ray. One of the better Star Trek films, however I dont know why I never thought about this before, but in the beginning, Data says something to the effect that it would take 3+ hours at maximum warp to reach the location of the battle between the Federation & Borg cube, yet when they finally decide to go, they arrive in what seems to be a very short period of time. I would normally justify that time passes differently in a movie, but they were patching into the transmission of the battle, and Federation ships were being destroyed so quickly it seems the fleet wouldn't have lasted 3 hours.

Other than that slight nitpick, its still a pretty entertaining film, has a little more heart to it than most ST films, especially the relationship that forms between Capt. Picard and Lily. It's refreshing to see a relationship built on genuine respect and admiration not be forced into a romantic relationship.

By the way just for kicks- my ST film Rankings:

1. II
2. VI
3. First Contact
4. Star Trek (2009)
5. Nemesis
6. I
7. Generations
8. IV
9. Insurrection
10. III
11. V

Superman Returns (2006)...Not a fan of this. I am not big on Superman as a character in the first place at all. I find his character lacking depth and just not very interesting, so that doesn't help but what also ruins the movie for me is the dull and lackluster acting and storyline. Hopefully the new Superman film will be at least somewhat better but I still don't like that character so...

The Incredibles (2004) -
While I enjoy this film, people HIGHLY overrate it. Craig T. Nelson didnt feel right as Incredible. I wouldve gone with John Goodman personally. The story is a bit shallow too.
Personally: 3.5/5
Critically: 3.5/5

Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) -
IMHO the best of the series. But oddly I like the comics and costume upgrades in AWE better.
Personally: 5/5
Critically: 4.5/5

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest (2006) -
Also, IMHO, a great sequel. Yes the magic was going a bit crazy, but it wasnt as over the top as in AWE or even OST. Bill Nighy is so perfect as Davey Jones.

The Crater Lake Monster (1977)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crater_Lake_Monster

For all the crap that people give Netflix, it still provides a couple of gems for me each month, and this was definitely one of them. A film so worthy of MST3K treatment, how it was missed is beyond me. For as low budget as this film was, I have to say that the stop motion of the Plesiosaur was not the worst I have ever seen. Also it was a nice reconnection to my childhood. I remembered seeing this movie years ago, probably before I was 10, which would have been early to mid 1980's. I'm thinking it was on WTBS. It has an "R" rating which I cant figure out. The human devouring sequences are pretty tame, no cursing or sexuality of anykind (unless you count the hillbillys at the beginning trying to look up the waitress' skirt?). Anyway its good for a laugh, and of course good Dino movies with aquatic reptiles have yet to really be done, Until then I guess this is all we have aside from Discovery Channel & Animal Planet documentaries. I'll definitely be searching out the Rifftrax version of this film 8-) .

Sector 7 (2011)
Having seen lukewarm reviews (at best) for Sector 7, I didn't have very high expectations. I'll start out with the good: Visually the film is superb. Everything non-CGI looks excellent and is supported by some nice shots and angles. There was some half-decent humor as well in the movie too. On top of this all I thought the idea was actually pretty good behind the creature along with the setting. Ha Ji-won played In short, Sector 7 had a lot of good basic ingredients that could've made it a solid movie. But alas, I largely blame the directing here. The first half hour has just about nothing happening. Yes, character development is great and necessary, but it could've been integrated better and didn't need to be a half hour long. It bores the audience. And then when the creature starts its attack it is revealed almost right away and any sense of suspense is immediately spoiled. And the monster design is not very interesting if not outright awkward (*SPOILER* It has legs yet it was supposed to have been created out of those tiny deep sea creatures, which leads to my second complaint: it could've been a really cool beautifully evil sort of creature like those rather than just a blob of weird design features). And then there are a few ridiculous action sequences especially towards the end that spoil it a little more. As for the CGI work, not so good. So with poor pacing, no suspense, meh characters (except the lead who did better), and an uninteresting monster lacking decent CGI for a movie of this level and scale, it outweighs what the decent lead, cool setting, interesting monster premise, and nice visual work (again, not the CGI). The movie isn't terrible mind you and it does still retain a mild entertainment factor, but it is below par.

Ted: This movie was fantastic. The comedy and jokes in this movie were hilarious and it went way beyond my expectations. There were a few flashback-style jokes like the ones in Family Guy too. These jokes were a little weak compared to the many other jokes in this film, but they worked. The plot was very interesting and had its own original flair. The jazzy soundtrack was very good too. Overall, this movie was perhaps the best comedy that I've seen in a very long time.
9/10

Brave: Pixar's new film really didn't captivate me at all. Like Cars 2, this movie tried to be more entertaining than expressing any real theme or message. The movie itself seemed like something done before by Disney, which makes me think that it has an identity crisis on whether or not Pixar would really do such a film. It is continuing a streak of sub-par films that has been around since the last great Pixar film, Toy Story 3. There is a pretty cool looking bear in the film though.

Zombie Strippers (2008) starring Robert Englund and Jenna Jameson...the worst acting i have ever seen, bad story, but actually had decent effects and Englund was pretty entertaining in the movie. And of course you got to see multiple pairs both alive and undead throughout if you know what I mean!

3 Ninjas

My lord, this movie is shit. It's a supposed crossover between the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and Home Alone. Even the DVD cover has the balls to say it's a crossover. It's like Ninja Turtles for it's martial arts and Home Alone for the traps that the kids make. The plot is about three kids training to become ninjas with their grandfather, while some guy tries to kidnap them. This movie is bad, the sequels are bad, and it makes Home Alone 2 seem enjoyable. I give it a 1.4/5. This movie is terrible.

Men in Black 2 (2002)
Plot: A sequel to the hit movie about a pair of government agents who manage aliens on Earth.
Honestly, this film was rather disappointing. The new cast members were horrid actors, the special effects ranged from good to bad, very bad. It could have done with a longer runtime, and there were several gaping plot holes. Additionally, the ending totally ripped off the ending of the first one. Although, it did have its good points ( Jones and Smith acted well, some of the humor was good, and some special effects were good) overall it was a lackluster sequel to a great sci-fi feature.

2/5

Safe House (2012)
Plot: A spy action thriller about a safe house housekeeper and a traitor.
Hmm, it was a pretty good movie with good performances and an overused, but cool plot. However, the action scenes were average and the script sagged in some parts. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it.

3.8/5

Just watched:

Alligator(1980): I liked this. The gator had that badassery that Jaws failed to have. Overall a good film.

Currently watching:

Day of the Animals(1977): I haven't got that far, but it looks like it should be good.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor (2007) -
The creators of BSG wanted to do a movie. This is what came of it. A movie set in the late season 2 era of BSG covering a spam of time from 41 years ago until 10 months ago. REALLY love this movie. Some First Cylon War footage with Adama as a Viper pilot and they fleshed out Michelle Forbes "Admiral Cain" character.
Personally: 5/5
Critically: 4/5

Lockout (2012) -
I watched 20 minutes and stopped it. Sorry, the movie is STUPID. The opening motorcycle chase scene was pretty much a video game. I was gunned to see this in theatres, but missed it and THANK GOD I did.

Super 8 (2011) : The first half of this movie was really good, after SPOILERS:the girl got kidnapped:SPOILERS things took a turn for the worse. All in all, it wasn't that great and I do not recommend it.

Oh man, I really can't stand Super 8

Well I saw the old Spawn movie. I liked it, thought it was fun. (Surprised at how accurate they made the Violator look.) The Devil had some of the worst CGI I've ever seen. But all in all, a fun little movie.

Godzilla (98) - Haven't seen this in a good eight or nine years. And holy skreeonk is it terrible, far worse than any Toho G-film...the acting, effects and writing are all so much worse than I remember. Every attempt at humor falls flat on its face, the romance is contrived and cheesy, with acting ranging from uninspired (Broderick, Reno, Azaria) to downright HORRIBLE (Pitilllo, pretty much all the soldiers). I was rolling my eyes pretty much the whole way through..and this isn't even factoring in how badly it rapes the Godzilla name (then Devlin says in the featurette that their Godzilla is what Toho always intended, but couldn't do because of "man-in-suit" limitations...kiss my ass, half-wit). I used to kinda like this one, but now I can't find any appreciation for it.

@tymon I like the 1998 GODZILLA film on its own merits. Is it perfect? Nope. Is the acting more enjoyable than the sometimes boring & dull acting found in a majority of the 90's Godzilla films? IMO yes. In my eyes, GODZILLA '98 is an enjoyable popcorn film.

On topic:

Batman Forever:

It was an alright film with some pretty decent acting (from Jim "Ace Ventura" Carry & Tommy Lee Jones) but it is just so dull at points and Val Kilmer wasn't quite as good as Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I do like how it tries to explain Batman's origins

Rambo IV

Before I talk about this movie, I know it's not called Rambo IV, it's just called Rambo. It's the fourth movie, it should be called Rambo IV, not just Rambo. Ok, now for the movie. It's not really a bad movie, it's pretty good, but not as good as First Blood, the first Rambo movie. The action scenes are awesome, yet some scenes I just hate, like the scene with the women dancing and some idiot pesters one of them and I can't explain it, it's just weird. The characters in the movie are good, but Rambo, played by Sylvester Stallone, steals the show, like all the Rambo movies (even Rambo III). The acting is descent, for an action movie. In conclusion, it's not a bad movie, and it's not as good as First Blood, but it's good. Ignore Rotten Tomatoes' rating for it, because it's not that bad. If you like action movies, give it a watch, it's worth it.

My rating: 7.9/10.

My Rambo ratings:

First Blood
Rambo IV
Rambo:First Blood part 2
Rambo III

The Amazing Spiderman. I would've preffered the Lizard's design to be more like the kind of Lizard that is my avatar at the moment, but aside from the facial design, the body design pretty much sums up what I'd like to see in this kind of film. If they ever make a sequel, they should make the Lizard's face more lizard-like. Aside from that flaw, though, the film itself was great.
