I should have clarified a bit more in my original post, the feeling of bastardization comes more from others (hardcore fans of the original film), not so much myself. I liked the original growing up. I saw the new film once, and was indifferent (didn't love it, didn't hate it), but your point above proves mine. Because there was so little in common with the 1981 film, why give it the exact same title?
--In the near future, if a major studio with a blockbuster-budget, pitched a "Sindbad" movie with great casting & story were made, I think it would do great, just as long as it is NOT called "The 7th Voyage of Sindbad" because well... It's already been done. With Myths, there's really no need to use the exact same title twice.
