That's my point: The movie is all about the original special effects, the stop-motion that made Harryhausen famous. (And it showed off some cool monsters?) Why couldn't they just start with Wrath of the Titans? A late unnessacery sequel would've been better than two ridiculous movies that serve to pollute my mind with useless garbage. God, I can't believe I'm even typing this...Ultimately, what I'm trying to say is, why not make an entirely orginial movie? I guess Hollywood is absolutely deprived of ideas.

Wouldn't a random unnecessary sequel to a movie made 30+ years ago that polluted our minds with garbage get blasted just as much if not more anyway?

Ever heard of "The Rage: Carrie 2"?

Point to that and your point will be proven. Hell, I remember when that came out. God I'm old.

Actually I think that's the only reason anyone ever gives it a look anymore and is half the reason the new one is hated.

I agree. The actual plot is simple but the execution is just ....ghastly. I tried to sit through it twice and gawwww.

Hey watsy! You seem to be TK's #1 proponent of crap. Have you seen Cabin in the Woods yet?

Similar plots. But not the same.

LOL. That's my answer then. BTW Clash of the Titans was already a bastardized version of the Perseus myth. If they were going to do another one... why not just adapt the myth itself? The remake was the biggest pile of cgi engorged shit I've ever seen. There was no tension in the Medusa scene whatsoever (something Harryhausen managed to pull of with a little puppet). OMG! A black Pegasus??? How XXXTREEEEEME! Not to mention the fact that I can't remember any of the characters. This film seems like a relic of the 90s to me.

You cant remember any of the characters? You might need some:

Image

You dont remember Perseus, Zeus, Hadas, Andromeda, Poseidon....?

Hindsight is 20/20, RZK. The tension scene from the original CotT was good yes. But the lovestory from CotT 2010 was better then in the original. Not saying much but again so was mentioning the Medusa scene.

Oh silly wataru. It takes more to make a "character" than visuals and sounds. Just because they were there (the cardboard cutouts meant to represent Zeus, Andromeda, Hades) doesn't automatically make them worthy of remembrance. Also, what is there besides hindsight when I'm not viewing the film at this very moment? As for my feelings while watching the film... well I suppose I checked my watch a bunch of times. Oh yeah, there was numbness too.

I agree. At least we could've seen a new Leviathan monster, could've thrown it in the FMs.

Yeah. Because most of the people here want to see a well-done love-story.
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

Eh, underwhelming. The gods were pretty wimpy through most of it. And what was with Ares's daddy issues? I guess no one cared about Poseidon. Or Perseus about his wife. "Here son, take this sword. Your dead mother never wanted you to have one. Go on, give it a few swings while I go make out some more."

Okay action though, and I liked the navigator guy."That's right, I am great." Heh.

Probably what I hated the most about the remake was combining Acrisius and Calibos into one character and making Hades the main villain. Just stupid bullcrap, like having Madusa live in the underworld. You can tell they basically wanted to do a new movie all together but called it Clash to cash in on it. /ramble

One thing I would to to point out is that I'm glad Hades was finally featured in a good(ish) light. He's not really a bad guy in the myths, or at least no worse than the rest of the gods.

Kinda OT, but I've been saying for a while now that I'd like to see a giant monster movie set in "ancient" times. Something with Greeks or Trojans could be used for some mythical backgrounds to give it a bit of depth.

The love story thing in Wrath of the Titans was unnecessary as well IMO.

One thing I don't get about Greek mythology is their idea of the underworld. It seems like a shitty place and you go there no matter what, even if you were a really good person? Or is that just how it's made to seem in movies?

The mythology used in Rick Riordan's stories is fresher in my mind, so it might not sync up into actual myth, but there the Underworld has various segments. Those who proved themselves worthy were given a pampered afterlife, and can even be reborn. Those who have been very naughty were given eternal torment. More disturbing than that, those who didn't fit into either catagory were sentenced to a sort of limbo, where they existed in loneliness for the rest of eternity.

Of course, my knowledge of Greek mythology is a little rusty, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

It was called the Alysian fields. Or something to that effect.

There were three sections to the Greek underworld- a field of eternal pleasure for those who had done great things in life, a field that was pretty much like being in the world of the living for those who were average, and a field of eternal torture for people who had done great evil. So, basically like Heaven and Hell, but with a middle, neutral area.

So I just saw this film via our DVR and I had some very low expectations and thought it was going to be crap.

Well... I was wrong. It is in no way a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination and clearly not the best film of 2012, but I like it and had fun with it. I liked how they showed how weakened the gods were and I like Hades' change of heart after what his brother Zeus has made him endure. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ares and he was probably my favorite character of the film.

Now if only SOMEONE on TK's FB group didn't spoil the ending for me.

But overall I liked it.
