Alright, I think I will attempt to start a new fun, ongoing topic here. Basically, what are your top 4 favorite monsters from the original series? (It would be cool if you could also state the reasons. :D )

Mine are:

1. Antlar

This guy was the first *tough* kaiju, before it was all easy wins for Ultraman. Here you actually thought that he might lose. This guy's design is great, plus his cunning (and Rodan roar) is great. My personal favorite monster in the Ultra franchise.

2. Zetton

Alright, this guy is the perfect final boss. Here you actually thought Ultraman had NO shot of winning, which was actually true. First off, his design is unique and fantastic. His character screams *no emotion.* Plus he broke out of Ultraman's attack like a boss.

3. Dorako

I think it helps cause I'm a Gigan fan, a lot of things about this monster remind me of him. I like the way he fights, and his design is great. While I don't like his resurrected design as much, he portrays personality. I like this guy.

4. Telesdon

I think this guy is a bit underrated. His simplistic design is cool, and I don't know, there's just something about him that I like. At first I didn't like that they re-used Gyango's roar for him, but it's grown on me. I like the way this guy fights, there's something about him that reminds me of Titanosaurus.

Neronga's always been a favorite of mine. The invisibility and electricity-eating aspects of him were certainly unique, and his face is so terribly derpy.
EDIT: HOW could I forget Skydon? His story's rather wacky, his fight with Ultraman is one of the best things in the show, and he's rather interesting in that he doesn't really do anything. Doesn't go traipsing through the city or eating people. Just kinda sits around. AND HE'S SO RIDICULOUSLY HEAVY.

1. Red King. His personality is just awesome. I like that he's a no frills thug type monster, whose cocky gestures and attitude is disproportional to his threat level. Oh... and he dismembers other kaiju.

2. Gomora. Another no frills monster who was powerful enough to defeat Ultraman! I love his tragic story and his simplistic reptilian design.

3. Skydon. Hilarious story coupled with an awesome saurian design. This bastard weighs 200,000 tons, btw. Watching Ultraman fail to pick him up was a highlight of the series for me.

4. Telesdon. I loved his creepy Outer Limits/Twilight Zone esque episode as well as his look. Landshark!

^RZK's picks are very good. I'd have picked several of the same ones I think. Can't forget Zetton, though. Ooh, and Dorako. And Gigas and Gubira and Kemular and Dodongo and...

Too many to choose from!

Please no one pick Gamakujira, probably my least favorite monster in the whole franchise.

If I had to add a number 5, it'd be Alien Mephilas. I gotta say that he would make a great villain for a film.

Alien Zarab I've always liked.

Gamakujira... would've been my #5. I find the terrible suit to be incredibly charming. Duckodile! I consider him a semi tragic Ultra Monster as well. HEY! It's not like he was eating people. Hayata... The Ultra Murderer.

#1: "Magnetic Monster" ANTLAR
When I started watching the original Ultraman, I was largely unimpressed with the monsters in the first several episodes; they looked sloppy, rushed, and perhaps uninspired. I was in for a surprise with episode 7. When Antlar reared his massive head for the first time, I thought, "Hey, that monster is COOL!"
Although I've come to appreciate most of the early Ultra kaiju more, Antlar will always hold a spot above all the rest. The fact that he shrugged off Ultraman's Specium Ray probably helped.
But power isn't everything...

#2: "Comet Monster" DORAKO

I don't know what it is about Dorako I love so much; he's certainly not a powerful monster, and he doesn't have much in terms of character. Something about his design just clicks with me. Maybe it's also the fact that episode 25 had a rather ominous tone to it, and that gets carried on to Dorako somewhat (he seems pretty ominous in Ultraman Powered too, from what I've seen). It is what it is, I guess, and I say Dorako is awesome. 8-)

#3: "Ancient Monster" GOMORA
Come on, how can you not like Gomora? He has a unique yet simple design, he's pretty powerful, and he has a pretty good back story - not unlike many of Toho's classic saurian kaiju. Granted, Gomora's lacking in the character department, but that's not uncommon among giant monsters.

#4: "Space Dinosaur" ZETTON
The first time I saw Zetton (via Ultra Galaxy video clips), I actually didn't like him; I was probably disappointed because I knew this was the kaiju that killed the original Ultraman, and I was probably expecting some super saurian monster (or something like that). What I actually saw, though, was this totally weird humanoid thing. This feeling would not last, however. I soon came to appreciate his very unique design, his eerie mechanical voice, and his impressive arsenal. Ironically, when I finally saw his original battle with Ultraman, I was a bit disappointed; it was rather short. Still, he's a great monster.
I don't get his subtitle, though: "space dinosaur"? What??

Telesdon, Red King, Seabozu, Zanbolar and Skydon are close behind in my favorites.
EDIT: Oops! I forgot Jamila and Gubira!

Of course, I can't forget the aliens....But I'll save that for another time.

Baltan - He's Ultraman's arch-enemy.
Zarab - He's my favourite Ultraman alien bad guy.
Jamila - He's in my favourite episode.
Zetton - He's Ultraman's toughest enemy.

So anyone like Alien Mephilas? I thought he was pretty awesome, a lot cooler than Baltan. He really should have came back in the original show.

I was honestly expecting Mephilas to get a second episode. It surprised me when he didn't.
Interesting that he didn't return until Mebuis (40+ years later).
