Hmm. Maybe he is better with pre-established properties? People often compare Chronicle to Akira and to my understanding most like his take on Superman (Superman: American Alien). But then there's Frankenstein...

This is a ridiculous idea. I mean, how have they NOT confirmed that Danny Devito has the starring role?

Devito was asked if he was aware fans wanted this at an Always Sunny event and apparently said "no" and "what the fuck is a Pokemon?"

Considering how Legendary handled another famous Japanese property, it's safe to assume that Pikachu will only be in the movie for about 8 minutes.

They'll confirm that Danny DeVito will make a cameo appearance, only to delete his scene.

Ugghh why?

Why not adapt Origins into a live action film? Just smooth out the flow. That would be the perfect love action pokemon film.

Only a rumor, but fun to imagine. Game Informer writes of a youtube channel that claims Legendary is considering Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, and Mark Wahlberg for Detective Pikachu.

I don't know, but that IGN article is certainly better than the GI one. Good find.

Justice Smith (The Get Down, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has landed the lead role in Detective Pikachu. Looking at him, he has to be playing the lead boy character.

Ryan Reynolds cast as the titular Detective Pikachu

Twitter acts like Reynolds' last film role was Green Lantern

They probably were hankering for Danny Devito to get the role.

I'm fine with Reynolds. He's hilarious.

SOME animated properties are NOT suitable for live-action, and Pokemon is one of them!

To be honest I think this is a great way to have a Pokémon movie. Pokémon is so big now, in terms of all the varieties right now, it’d be chaotic to just throw audiences into a rushed retelling of one of the games. I haven’t played detective pikachu, but I know you could make a really creative mystery or something if the Pokémon are used right.
