I recently read the book for the first time, and I liked it very much.

Today, I watched the '70's animated film version, which was a decent adaptation.

I am DEFINITELY looking forward to the new film.

This is probably the #1 movie I am gung ho to see this year. Sure, I LOVED The Avengers, and Prometheus looks amazing but I love the LOTR stuff, especially Dwarves and the music.

He was probably written in since his father appears in The Hobbit, the king of Mirkwood.

Yeah, he was most likely present at the Battle of Five Armies considering he was the prince of the woodland realm. That being said, he'll probably appear there.

I think the character will appear as another link to LOTR. Some of the audience members ARENT going to connect the two. Shit, when Star Wars Episode 1 came out I remember people wondering why Luke Skywalker wasnt in it. They thought it was a sequel to ROTJ.

The Hobbit has few characters that appear in LOTR that most people are going to remember: Bilbo, Gandalf and Elrond.

No, but it's in LOTR. Thranduil (King of Mirkwood) is the father of Legolas.

So I don't know why Legolas is making an appearance at all. Orlando Bloom not reprising his role renders the cameo moot. It's not like leggy would age so much between films. Not a bloom fan either, but it just seems pointless to me.

All they need to do is MENTION Legolas and it puts another tie to LOTR. While Legolas' father is in The Hobbit, it's obvious the producers want more name recognition to the LOTR trilogy.

I hadn't even realized there WAS a video, lol. Thanks for correcting me... The resemblance is borderline creepy.
