I've probably been living under a rock(if thats how the saying goes)but who are those three guest stars in his Ponyo review. I've never heard of them.
Give Zilla a chance.

^ LittleKuriboh is best known for the Yu-gi-oh: The Abridged Series, Spike Spencer is best known for the voice actor for Shinji Ikari in the Evangelion series and I believe Uncle Yo is a comedian for video games and other anime stuff. I agree that Doug is still my favorite internet reviewers but The Cinema Snob is still my favorite reviewer on TGWTG. Anyone like Phelous? I find his videos very enjoyable but I do find some of his meta-humor rather annoyhing sometimes.

I used to enjoy Phelous's reviews, but like you said, his meta humor is annoying sometimes. Also, his last ten or so reviews looks like he no longer enjoys what he's doing. He also seems to pick out little things in his reviews just to complain about something that really shouldn't bother anyone.

Also, I have to agree with you, The Cinema Snob is also my favorite.

I've never been a big Phelous fan, for the reasons stated above. He has good reviews sometimes, but not enough to make me a loyal watcher.

And I'll have to agree with you two as well, except say that the Brad Jones videos are my favorite on the site. I can't wait for this summer to see if they do midnight release reviews again.

I like that he reviewed a Miyazaki film, I hope he continues the trend. As great as he is, Miyazaki can be an overrated director and seeing someone apply some actual criticism is a breath of fresh air in contrast to all the praise he gets.

Just because you don't like him as much as others doesn't mean he's overrated. Although you did call him great, so you redeem yourself a bit.
I, personally, think that Ponyo was Miyazaki's worst film, and that justified it. But I do think it would be neat to see more Miyazaki reviews.

It's not that I don't like him, as you acknowledged, I think he's great. He's obviously very talented and has raised the bar for children's animation. What bothers me however is the sacred-cow status he's earned. Whenever people bring up Miyazaki, the words genius and animation-god are bound to be brought up, and anyone who disagrees is treated like an intellectual outcast, or a pretentious douche. It creates this environment where any bit negative becomes stomped out by endless praise.

I'm going to stop here, because I know if this keeps going it'll end up derailing this topic, which isn't what I intended. Just PM or something if you want to call me out or whatever.

I think the point was that Doug Walker has said many times that he considers Miyazaki a genius (Like in the top cliches he hates), so making this review was hard for him too.

And speaking of Phelous, he recently reviewed "Turtles Forever"; more specifically, he pointed out how the special exagerates the '87 turtles sillynes for the sake of making the 2003 turtles look superior: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videol ... es-forever

My problem with the Ponyo review, is that it was the 200th episode. The Nostalgia Critic is best known for getting extremely angry at really bad nostalgic movies, and Ponyo was none of that. It's not nostalgic, it's not bad, and Doug didn't get angry at the movie. If he had done this for a regular review, like The Room, then I wouldn't have a problem with this. But this was the 200th episode, a milestone for online reviewing. I expected something similar to the Battlefield Earth review, pushed even higher. What we got was yet another convention review, which he had done two weeks prior to that with Star Trek: Insurrection. Because of such a tiny gap, this review didn't feel all that special, especially in the face of the crossover review with Linkara.

Honestly, 2012 is out to a bad start. Star Trek Month really wasn't all that special, Patch Adams was just him saying why he hates the film, and Ponyo was kind of a disappointment. Hopefully he picks it up in the next few weeks and starts turning out reviews like he did at the start of last year.

Can't wait for Linkara's Holy Terror review.

I think that is why that he wanted to pick Ponyo since he wanted to do a nice review instead of reviewing a very awful film. Not to mention that he pick it for the apparent weirdness of that movie. This week review is Dunston Checks In (1996).

Not a bad review since I did had a good laugh. The review could be short seeing how boring the movie is and Doug try to make the review funny as possible.

...And that's exactly why I didn't like the review. The 200th review should be what we're use to, but pushed up another degree. When doing a review of a movie that he likes, the review gets old fast and can be easily forgotten. That's not something that you want to do for a 200th review.

This week's review is Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000). The review was hillarious and his best review of 2012 so far.

http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/nostalgi ... ad-6006535

By popular demand, Doug did the following for Disneycember:

Dinosaur

http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/disneyce ... ur-5995280

A Goofy Movie

http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/disneyce ... ie-5995300

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/disneyce ... it-5995318

Did anyone like Disneycember because I enjoy his take on the Disney films and I did agree with most of them?

Wow, I never knew there was a Thomas the Tank Engine film. I knew about and watched the TV show, but never knew about the movie. After watching the review, I think that's for the best... Anyway, the review itself was pretty good, better than the other reviews we've had this year. I'm not surprised Doug harped on the lack of lip movement from the trains, but I don't think lip movement would've made things any better. Lately it feels like he's really reaching for complaints, although they are sometimes valid.

I really enjoyed Doug's Disneycember (I didn't know about it until Hellspawn mentioned it), and watching it showed me that I'm not tired of Doug in general; it's the Nostalgic Critic. If Doug would do more reviews like Disneycember and Bum Reviews, I'd watch him as much as I watch Brad.

I don't like Todd in the Shadows very much. His jokes about the mall and having a rich girlfriend in the Hannah Montana movie review made him look like a greedy douche.

I think his new Top 11 skreeonk ups could have been much better. But the review of Jungle 2 Jungle was very funny though. Doug is filming the 4th year special and I hope it will be better then the Year 3 special.

It was good but Kickassia was much better. Kickassia feel more epic then Suburban Knights did.

^It was the other way around for me. I think it was better because there were fewer people, so they could fit in more stuff. (At least I think)
Don't get me wrong, Kickssia was really good, I just think for the reason above Suburban Knights was better.

Kickassia was incredibly flawed and overall not very enjoyable. Unfunny jokes, with more offensive than anything else (especially anything involving Santa Christ) and just a general feeling of anything unlike what I'm use to.

Suburban Knights was better, but was still flawed. I still think that the best of the three anniversary videos was the Brawl. Short, sweet, and to the point.
