NEVER happening again. They only riffed the two Godzilla films they did because they thought they were in the public domain. I don’t ever see them trying to take on Toho again.
They might be able to do King Kong vs. Godzilla since Universal owns the rights.
Yeah, not a chance. Universal owns the rights to the English version of KKVG, but they still can't use the Godzilla name without approval from Toho, which they will not give.

Huh, wonder how Rifftrax were able to do Mothra live then.

A live show is a different animal from an episode of a television series.

I'm just going to leave a list of films I'd
like to see get the MST3K treatment...

The Mololith Monsters (1957)
The Beast With A Million Eyes (1955)
The Giant Behemoth (1959)
The Food of the Gods (1976)
It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958)
Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)
Empire of The Ants (1977)
Inframan (1975)
The Green Slime (1968)
The People that Time Forgot (1977)

How about those?

Pretty good, they actually did The Green Slime in a pilot.

Yeah...

I'm kind of hoping Joel saves it for the VERY FINAL episode
of the show to give it the "full treatment". That would be a
very cool way for the show to come full circle.

At least it would be in my opinion.

Added in 7 hours 42 minutes 2 seconds:
Okay...so I'm going to give my thoughts on each individual episode of season 12 as I watch them.

No...I'm not watching all 6 episodes straight back to back...I'll watch one a day for the next 6 days...
and I just finished watching Season 12 Episode 1: Mac And Me...so lets begin.

Prior History:
I've never seen this film before...and I've never watched E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial either.

The Framework:
The ending of season 11 is quickly tossed aside...
The sets all look the same but the lighting seems darker...which I like...
The entire show feels more stripped back & streamlined...which I also like...
Get them in the theater & start with the riffing ASAP...
Felicia Day is cute...but she doesn't really work as a "Mad" for me...

The Riffing:
The overall riff pacing has improved...its slower & feels more natural...
and the 3 performers are building up a solid rapport.

BUT...I'm going to be that guy & again state that I still miss Kevin Murphy
& Bill Corbett voicing Servo & Crow.

I do think Jonah Heston is a solid host & I like that Gypsy has a proper
voice now...but...it just doesn't feel right without Kevin & Bill.

The Film:
Yeah...I found this one incredibly flat & boring even with the riffing...
and I doubt I'll ever watch this episode again. There was only one riff
that really made me laugh out loud. Maybe I would have liked this one
more if I had seen E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial...but I've always avoided
that film.

Final Thoughts:
It was okay...but I hope the next 5 episodes are better.

Added in 10 hours 40 minutes 8 seconds:
Season 12 Episode 2: Atlantic Rim
So yeah...this one fell completely flat for me as well. I really think they
should have picked Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus which is a lot more
fun & less of a direct ripoff.

The riffing was solid but for me a complete MST3K experience needs a
certain kind of film at its core...and I think the problem with these new
seasons is the fact all the films are in color & are (for the most part) too
"Good" for the premise of the show.

Why not throw in some old school, cheesy, black & white films from the
50's & 60's? Episodes like "Earth vs. The Spider" & "The Deadly Mantis"
had a certain charm & feel that cannot be achieved with more modern,
colored movies.

Look...I don't want to be "That Guy" but the more I watch of the NEW
MST3K the more I don't like it.

The overall presentation is great & Jonah is a really good host...but
the I think their film selection is really letting them down.

I guess there is always RiffTrax.

You're not alone. The new seasons lack all the homemade, down-to-Earth charm of the original run. It feels manufactured, corporate, and just non-genuine. Rifftrax will forever be the real "return of MST3K" for me.

I don't know...

Its still "appears" low budget & down-to-earth to me...I just
wish they would select some better films...& by that I mean
some classic, black & white science fiction fodder.

RiffTrax works for me...but that's manly because its Mike,
Kevin & Bill...and the last 3 seasons of MST3K contained
most of my favorite episodes.

Look...I'm happy that MST3K is "around" again...and I'm
usually the positive "glass half full" kind of guy...but this
new MST3K just isn't clicking with me.

Added in 1 hour 44 minutes 35 seconds:
Season 12 Episode 3: Lords Of The Deep
So this episode was definitely more my speed. This film
was an overall better fit for the show & the cast seemed
more relaxed in the theater because of it.

Its so strange they opened the season with Mac And Me
& Atlantic Rim when this would have worked better as
a "season opener"

Added in 4 days 3 hours 38 minutes 8 seconds:
Season 12: Episode 4: The Day The Ended

Okay...so...I think I'm just about done with MST3K. I don't know
why but these new episodes seem so flat & lifeless to me.

Josh showing up just feels like a tease. He should be back
voicing Servo full time.

In fact all the cameos made by past "stars" of the show have
just been annoying for me.

The film itself reminded me of Laserblast...but just not as funny.

I really, REALLY want to like this new version of MST3K but with
every episode I watch...I find myself becoming more detached
from it.

I guess I only have 2 left...so I may as well finish the Gauntlet
but after that...I can't see myself watching any of these episodes
again.

What does the term "Gaunlet" have to do with it?

So...I finished watching Season 12...and if I'm being
honest...the entire season fell completely flat for me.

I doubt I will be going back to any of these episodes
in the future.

Anyone else hear that we're apparently not getting a third season of the reboot, at least not from Netflix?

So sad to think we just got the show back and it's already been tossed back out into the void. :(

Too bad. Me and my sister went to Joel's live show a couple weeks ago. Was really fun. They showed some cheesy 80s karate movie.
