Well from preliminary reports it looks like my afore mentioned faith in humanity can be a bit restored (moves back doomsday clock 5 minuets ;) ) . Battleship proved to be no competition for the Avengers (200M + in other coutries prior to US release gave me some pause). But I'm glad Avengers was #1 for a 3rd week straight, proving that pretty CG and tons of explosions does not make a film. Not to offend anyone who did go to see Battleship and enjoyed the film, it appears that most people knew what they were in for, were aware that it was mindless entertainment, and enjoyed it- nothing wrong with that.

Now for this weekend (May 25-28) MEMORIAL DAY. MIB3 is coming out. I'm probably going to see this, mostly because I'm getting a free pass from my work. But stacked against The Avengers 4th week in North America, I expect Avengers to finally slide into 2nd place, which is not a bad thing. Internationally, I'm not sure MIB3 will fair as well, but if it does beat out Avengers, again it is no disgrace. There's no way MIB3 will come anywhere near to the overall records Avengers has set. I expect MIB3 to do not better than perhaps 300M in North America and maybe 600M World Wide at the end of its theatrical run.

$1.18 billion.

Only Harry Potter 7 Part 2, Titanic and Avatar are above it. It made $55 million this weekend alone. A 45% decrease from last weekend.

I have a strong feeling that Avengers will top out at #3 both on the World Wide & US all time lists. I see it having no problem taking that spot, but to catch Titanic (a movie I vehemently dislike) would be quite difficult. Of course whenever anybody brings up inflated ticket prices (which is legit), I always bring out that Titanic was initially in theaters for almost an entire year, not to mention 300M + from the recent 3D release world wide! You dont see that anymore. Most blockbuster films are in theaters 4 months at the most, usually spending the last 6 weeks in discount theaters. Of course I would LMAO if in a couple months Marvel/Disney reveals a "directors cut" with extended footage of the Avengers and it will be released in December. I know its not happening, but it would be a great shot at Cameron.

Sadly Titanic and Avatar were given re-releases, IMHO handicapping every other movie. If Marvel was smart, they'd do a re-release of Avengers around October.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but the film is coming out on Blu-ray September 25th. There will be a 4-Disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack and a 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. Both will have identical special features including a commentary by Joss Whedon, 30 min. of Deleted Scenes and more.

The thing is both movies really didn't make much on their rereleases. Avatar didn't even break the top ten films list when it came out again.

It has occurred to me that I haven't weighed in on the movie yet in this topic...it probably won't be much of a surprise to hear that I loved it. As a Joss Whedon and Marvel fan, I geeked out throughout the entire movie, and it quite honestly is one of the most fun films I have seen in years. It entertains throughout and never talks down to the audience. There's an awkwardly staged sequence here or there, but those are nitpicks in an otherwise great film.

Theyve made as much as another mid-grade movie in their re-release.

Avatar made around $35 million I believe in it's re-release. That was nearly a year after it's initial release. Avengers dropped 45% in one week for $55 million for a weekend and if the home media version is coming out in 4 months, that's just less potential movie for a theatrical re-release.

To be fair though, that's a drop from $100 Million the weekend before during its second weekend opening.

Also, Avatar never made more than 100 million in one weekend. It just chugged along for a long ass time.

Avatar was I believe in theatres over a year. I dont think a movie has done that since Jurassic Park in 1993 to 1994.

If Avengers can keep pulling off $20-$55 million a weekend, I think it'll get #3, but that's it. I think it should still get a re-release later on. Maybe in 2013 or 2014 to celebrate Avengers 2.

I can see Avengers staying in theaters for quiet a long time. The point is no matter what it's going to make a crapload of money.

It was already stated its coming out for home media in Sept. That's about the average for films - 3 months in theatres, 2 months being pressed then release. Would be smarter IMHO to push it more towards a Christmas release.

Did I mention I have this?
Image

It's not a poster. It's actually cardboard. It's from Walmart to advertise their books, DVDs and toys.

Also, Avengers as made 1.33 billion, making it the #3 movie worldwide AND domestic. Sadly I dont see it overtaking Titanic which is 2.34 billion

Well looks like the okay avengers beat Harry potter, ho hu- wait a minute. That was a two parter film so it's only fair to add up the box offices together and thus Makes the deathly hollows the number 2 movie of all ti- no wait, since avatar is plagerism off of an old 50's/60's story it shall be removed from the number one spot making Harry Potter and the deathly hollows the highest grossing film of all time.

If that's your line of thinking, then we have to add all six Star Wars films together, as they tell the singular story of the seduction, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. ;)

K, that's nice but not really what I meant. Sequels aren't really part films like the deathly hollows but then again you rarely see part films anymore with the exception of that upcoming twilight movie and the hobbit.

You kid right?

It could be two parts or 50 and it wouldn't matter. It's still one movie and it is now behind The Avengers. And plagiarized material does not disqualify what a movie grossed in any way.

It's not a whole film if it's broken into two parts. ;) Also I hate Avatar to no ends and it doesn't deserve the spot it has.

Don't like my post/opinions, oh well.

From a technical standpoint (well in terms of effects) Avatar was mind blowing but in terms of acting, well let's just say that its Jim Cameron's worst film in terms of the acting
